Maria
>>3819 Cute Maria. Also, what do you think the last team in TSR is gonna be? It seems like Eggman is gonna be the villain of the game with that Dodonpa disguise.

>>3820 I think Eggman will still be the last team. They mention unlocking playable characters in the Adventure mode, so maybe Eggman, Metal, and someone else are the last team, but you unlock them by beating the mode.
>>3820 It's either gonna be Eggman team, which makes sense, or something really dumb considering everything other option it could be. Maybe it's team Infinite
>>3827 > team Infinite My dream team is Infinite, the rest of Jackal Squad crammed into one tiny car, and the Phantom Ruby which has become sentient >>3820 If Dodonpa isn't just Eggman in disguise then I'm sure the last team is Team Eggman. Probably Eggman/Zavok/Metal Sonic. Or if Metal Sonic transformed himself into Dodonpa, sort of like in Free Riders and Heroes, then the team will probably be Eggman/Zavok/Orbot+Cubot. Or maybe it's something totally random like Cream/Marine/Sticks.
>>3828 Any team with Zavok is a bad team.
>>3829 but Sega loves Zavok for some reason

Do people still do this, or was it lost along with the rest of the fun stuff?
>>3888 We did one last year, but it's been a while.
>>3885 Not him, but I do remember one site reporting him and Amy were in when the game was first shown off, but they were the only ones to do so, so I think they might've been wrong. Regardless, I think it's pretty clear the last team is going to be an Eggman team since those Famitsu scans only show 4 teams for Adventure mode, which makes sense if the last team is Eggman's since we wouldn't play as him in that.
>>3870 Wish for something else, tell them we want more Lost World and Forces. Maybe that'll work.
(452.05 KB 1913x1080 tfw gens.jpg)

>>3892 Who knew the other characters ventured into the food business. Guess they have the time since they don't do anything in the games.
(130.66 KB 365x250 1510996710072.png)

>>3893 >Guess they have the time since they don't do anything in the games. I'm convinced that "everyone but Sonic must be useless" is a mandate.
>>3894 I imagine it's just a response SEGA had to the "Sonic shitty friends" mentality that was pretty prevalent back in the late 2000s, so they decided to just make everyone useless instead.
>>3885 https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/sonic-hedgehog-returns-new-racing-game-1117154 Amy was also confirmed before Team Rose's reveal at the 2018 Sonic event in Tokyo Joypolis.
>>3894 >>3895 Come on, guys, the resistance wasn't that useless. Knuckles was the leader, Amy and Rouge gathered intel, and Silver and the Chaotix were active fighters. Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, and Rouge even fought alongside the rest of the resistance. They all played their part, even if most of it was off-screen.
>>3897 I agree that they did more than in previous games, but >most of it was off-screen is kind of a big problem. Most of Forces' story was told through telling, rather than showing.
Sonic should go back to Christmas Island.
>>3899 He probably visits it at least one day per year.
>>3900 I would hope he visits it a few times. I assume that's where his parents are.
>>3897 >even if most of it was off-screen I haven't played Forces but that sounds like a very poor way to tell a story. At the very least it doesn't sound like it's given much importance within the story.

So Ian Flynn just wrapped up his interview at SAGE. I didn't see it myself, but from what I've gathered he apparently hinted at being tapped by SEGA to review Forces script. Kinda cool he's managed to build such a relationship with SEGA if that's the case. Also Stealth is on stream doing a playthrough of some games rn
>>3916 Got a link to it? I'd like to listen. >but from what I've gathered he apparently hinted at being tapped by SEGA to review Forces script. That's interesting. I believe there is much more back and forth between him and SEGA for IDW and since that is following the fallout of Forces and explaining things Forces didn't mention, maybe they've taken notice.
>>3918 Thanks. It seems to be quite long, so I'll listen to it later.
>>3920 >paws AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
>>3919 No problem, anon. Yeah it's a bit of a long listen, but there's some fun stuff in there, especially towards the end.
>>3916 >being tapped by SEGA to review Forces script That sounds way too thoughtful for Sega.

>>3972 No problem anon, you do good work. And yeah, Sonic boards on this site are usually dead, but this place has garnered some activity lately. Let's hope it keeps up.
>>3973 >this place has garnered some activity lately Mostly because of the absolute state of /sthg/. I've noticed spikes in activity here whenever the (other) general goes into full meltdown mode.
>>3974 Yeah but hey, it's happening. We're already 1/3rd of the way though this thread, which is pretty cool.
>>3972 Yeah, /fast/ only recently started to get some consistent traction. Hope ya stick around.

>>3973 >Let's hope it keeps up. >>3974 >I've noticed spikes in activity here whenever the (other) general goes into full meltdown mode. Not sure if this is good or bad. I guess it isn't totally bad, but I would rather have activity because people genuinely want to post here rather than avoid somewhere else. Guess beggars can't be choosers. Sorry to hear about 4/sthg/ though. >>3975 1/2 of the way through. Considering it's only been alive through the weekend, it is pretty cool. Let's hope it keeps going and growing. That would be so cool.
>>3977 I know some come here for refuge when 4/sthg/ goes to shit, but I genuinely enjoy the chill & relaxed atmosphere this place has. I do have some questions about this place, but I'd feel like it'd be more appropriate for the meta thread & only worth mentioning later on as this place hopefully keeps growing.
>>3977 As long as people just want to chill and hang out discussing Sonic, I'm cool with wherever they come from. I do hope that we do eventually see some more newcomers from elsewhere though.
(333.67 KB 800x800 1494967020818.png)

So what brought you guys into the series & what keeps you around? For me, my earliest Sonic memories comes from the beginning of the post-Dreamcast era with titles like Heroes, the Advance games Sonic X etc. but I eventually discovered the Archie comics, went back & played through the Genesis/Adventure games while also keeping up with a ton of fan content mainly fanfictions that I'd rather forget these days. Nowadays the comics, games like Mania & the booming fan-game scene has done a great job of keeping me into the series, even when SEGA stumbles there always seems to be something worth following in this franchise.
>>3982 Early days of Youtube, weirdly enough. People were posting various Sonic X things AMVs, clips, episodes split into parts to get past the 10 minute limit, etc. And I just kinda got drawn in. Eventually I explored more and got into the games more and some of the comics and I'm still a fan. Admittedly, it is harder nowadays. Stuff like Mania and the new comics make it easier, but I definitely don't see the franchise in great shape currently and it's hard seeing Sonic Team falter and people turn on a lot of the Modern aspects of Sonic. Not saying they're wrong either, but it still kinda hurts to see.
>>3983 Yeah it kinda sucks seeing the Modern branch of the series catch a lot of shit lately, but I think a lot of it is born out of frustration from some of the more recent titles. I hope that now the HE2 is completed & SEGA seemingly has an idea of what they want the current series to be like, we can get better Modern Sonic games from Sonic Team. At least something on the level of Modern's Generations or Unleashed's Day stages would be nice.
(79.87 KB 600x595 hic.jpg)

>>3978 Ask away whenever you like and we'll do our best to answer. >>3980 I didn't mean I wasn't cool with them coming from there, just that I'd rather it be for other reasons (that is, I'd rather people just stay and post here because they enjoy it like the other anon, rather than to escape from somewhere else). >>3982 >what brought you guys into the series It was the cuteness. Tails caught my attention in a random video and then I started exploring the franchise. I watched some TV shows, played some games, and so on. But I wouldn't really say I became a fan until The Ride, that (and /sthg/ afterwards) kind of brought Sonic front and center in my life. >what keeps you around This place and the aforementioned reason. I got attached to the characters so it ain't easy to just turn my back to the franchise, but there isn't a whole lot I'm interested in at this point. Sega has done a remarkably good job of slowly removing most things I enjoyed from it. Fan content helps though as it still delivers some of the things I miss sometimes. >>3983 >10 minute limit in Youtube Oh man, those were the days. >it's hard seeing Sonic Team falter and people turn on a lot of the Modern aspects of Sonic I know that feel.
>>3984 >HE2 What's that? >SEGA seemingly has an idea of what they want the current series to be like See, this is what worries me, because if we go by the last games then the next games are going to be awful. They seem to want a generic kiddie series with generic tropes, generic characters, and no effort put into it, and this is what we've been getting. The whole thing with the OC in Forces and him and Sonic fist bumping is a good example.
>>3986 >What's that? Hedgehog Engine 2, aka: The lighting engine Sonic Team spent 3 of Forces 4 year development cycle making, before actually getting to Forces.
>>3987 Right, I forgot. Did we get any comparison between HE2 and HE1? Because it doesn't sound like that was worth it at all for something like Forces.

>>3988 I think we did, but I don't have it on me. Honestly it probably wasn't worth it, but at least M&S '16 (which used sort of a beta version of HE2) looked nice. >>3989 Night anon.
>>3990 I feel like there has to be a reason they really wanted a new system. Maybe so it runs better on current platforms? Though I know the Switch version wasn't so great.
>>3991 IIRC it was for better performance on newer platforms & certain stuff like shadows, some extra smaller details etc. Who knows, maybe the next game will show it off better?

>>4064 I get the feeling people have actual contempt for the Werehog. Do you think the hate it gets is justified?
>>4067 Yeah, specifically only w/ Knux for some reason
>>4068 I think a lot of the hatred from the Werehog stems from a number of things. One, he was considered the worst part of Unleashed & a big reason why the game was critically panned when it first came out. Second, some of his levels were stretched out a bit too long & stuff like the repetitive battle music/not enough variety of moves made it a bit of a slog in some stages. Personally, I didn't hate the Werehog but I did feel like there was a lot of room for improvement. I get why some weren't fans of his gameplay style but I think people can overblow it sometimes.
>>4064 The Werehog got mentioned in the both of the new kids books that got released today. It's good to know that Sega hasn't forgotten Unleashed exists and is okay with actually mentioning things from it
>>4068 I think the concept combined with the gameplay that people weren't digging and the fact that it was the game after 06 were just a bad mix that sent it into being hated more than it really should've been. I admittedly hated the werehog back in 2008, but have come around in recent years. Mostly due to giving Unleashed a fair shot and realizing how much that game has that is missing from the current games.
>>4071 It did? Pretty cool if that's the case, especially since Unleashed seems to be getting some stages in TSR. Unleashed on PC pls SEGA

>>4111 RIP all those adventures. >>4112 Maybe he keeps it in the same place he keeps Chaos Emeralds.
>>4111 Not everything. Sonic 1 and 2 still happened.
>>4117 And SEGA won't let us forget it with the constant use of Green Hill & Chemical Plant in everything.
>>4118 How come S3/S&K never got a zone to the same level of renown and usage as Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 did with Green Hill and Chemical Plant? It's even the better liked game of the 3 generally.
>>4119 Not as iconic since it didn't sell as much as the previous two.
>>4119 Probably >>4120 That being said, I'd fucking love to see a level like Angel Island Zone or Flying Battery redone, if SEGA's gonna keep including past stages in Modern games.
>>4119 I think Ice Cap could be that zone maybe. The thing is it's one of the zones with licensed music so SEGA avoids using it in games like Generations and Mania. That's why those games almost no zones from S3 in those games. Besides Hydrocity and some of Angel Island all S3&K zones in the anniversary games are from S&K.
>>4122 I wonder if they'll ever touch a level like Marble Garden, or Carnival Night again.
>>4123 Carnival Night has samples from Jam by MJ, so I dunno. CN, Ice Cap and Launch Base all have licensed music and they have completely different BGM in the Sonic & Knuckles Collection as a result. Ideally Sega would just use those tracks in future remasters but they'd rather get entangled in legal shenanigans instead.
>>4120 Damn, how? Still, though, given that it's the better liked game I would think it'd have zones just as memorable. >>4121 >Flying Battery Modern remix Holy shit I never knew how much I needed this. Modern Sonic needs something with a strong character like that in times of feeble games like the ones we've been getting. >>4123 I hope not, those are probably my least favorite zones in S3&K

Do you think we'll ever get to the point where we'll get visits like we used to get way back then?
>>4126 What, from like Ian or ABT or Hesse?
>>4127 Meant to add: I wouldn't say it's impossible, but we're likely gonna get less visits than normal given that they're pretty busy. But hey, ya never know. There's always a chance that someone stops by, whether it's here or in the other place.
>>4126 For /sthg/ on 4chan, absolutely not. A lot of the current regulars don't care for the comics and a lot of the artists and flynn have been shitposted about too much. There's nothing wrong with criticism but a lot of it wasn't even constructive, like that two week period where JenHen's photos were spammed along with shitposting about her personal life. Hell, people are still screaming about her OCs today. When Whisper was revealed, people made up lies about her wanting to murder all the male characters because Stanley supposedly was a SJW and felt the same way and people actually started believing it and circulating that lie. No one is going to want to visit a place where people dislike you or your coworkers. And just look at the attitude toward fanartists like Kayla and AAR. Sure it's just one or two overly loud shitposters but non-regulars don't know that. Why would an artist want to waste their time in place that seemingly hates artists? For this place maybe eventually but probably not anytime soon. It's nice here but no one knows it exists. We could do something to draw attention to ourselves but I don't know what
>>4129 > Kayla Didn't Kayla do some kinda shady stuff? And when she gets shitposted at or about she throws a fit?
>>4130 The worst that she did was advertise her streams and try to get people to go to her DA/FA for commissions. She stopped after she started getting banned though. She doesn't even come to /sthg/ anymore after she got doxed on /trash/

But I wasn't talking about 4/sthg/, even though it is kind of interesting to analyze as well. Fortunately things aren't nearly as complicated here. Kayla is shit, though. Seems they were finally lucky enough to get her to leave.
>>4131 I heard, a few times she'd get a friend to request pictures she already had finished, this is just something I heard. >doxed on /trash/ shit, that sucks.
>>4133 I never heard that but I could believe it. Sometimes when she'd do requests, half of them would be done quickly and look semi finished but the rest would be very rough sketches. That's pretty shitty to do
>>4134 That adds concrete to the shit sandwich, aside from that I did like her art, this pic especially.

Hi /sthg/, I'm pretty new to this place so I wanted to ask you guys a question. I often see people saying that 4/sthg/ turned to shit in the "anniversary". What exactly do they mean by that - are they talking about sonic's 25th anniversary or is it something /sthg/ related? And what exactly happened during said anniversary that made things so bad over there?
>>4169 It actually turned out rather decent, I was expecting much worse. Certainly went better than the #stuffedNachos one. Why can't the west do anything well?
>>4171 Welcome anon! 4/sthg/ always had a lot of issues, but the 25th anniversary party kind of opened the flood gates and we got overrun by undesirable people (namefags, dedicated shitposters, attention whores who posed as legitimate contributors and garnered a following, and such).
>>4171 25th anniversary party AKA when Mania and Forces were announced. >And what exactly happened during said anniversary that made things so bad over there? It was just the beginning of a turning point for the general. Since those games were announced, 4/sthg/ began getting more and more attention, newcomers, and traffic that lead to a change in culture and eventually attracted a lot lower quality posting. Things like creation of a discord which some clashed with, some namefag dramas, boards fighting each other, cancellation of the Archie comics, and inheriting a major shitposter from another general were just completing the change.
(86.99 KB 600x600 4544815042436.jpg)

>>4170 Gotta import them from Japan.
>>4175 Can you still buy SOAP shoes Sonic plushies in Japan?! This is important.
(44.23 KB 480x360 R-jQPzQhI9g.jpg)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-jQPzQhI9g >>4176 I found this video from a year ago about them. Quick skim seems to indicate SEGA has some internally in Japan which they use for promotional stuff or just viewing, but isn't on sale.
>>4173 >>4174 Man, that sucks but it's not surprising. Stuff becoming popular seems to always be such a double edged sword. On the one hand it's great to see more people getting into something you like and giving it some recognition, but the sudden and massive influx of newcomers creates so much chaos and drama. It's not hard to see why old guards in communities tend to become elitist sometimes. It seems like popularity is better when it increases gradually instead of happening all at once due to a certain event.
>>4177 Darn.
>>4179 Your best bet would be to wait for one to eventually show up on eBay, but I imagine they go for a lot of money.
>>4178 It seems like yesterday how I wanted the general to just grow when it was just starting, even at the cost of post quality, thinking that shitposting would eventually sort itself out over time. I guess I was wrong. But as I mentioned, even though shit got worse after the anniversary party, it wasn't all nice the previous 2 years, so even if the influx was slower, with so many people and no mod oversight it was probably going to go the same way eventually.
