Souls Thread: Melina has no closure edition. Anonymous 08/10/2024 (Sat) 01:19:59 Id: 28eea5 No. 999602
Let's discuss Elden Meme and the other souls games (Sekiro included). I hope everyone is enjoying the expansion for Elden Ring and let's hope that Black Myth: Wukong won't be chink trash. I've personally been having a great time with SoTE save for the sheer lack of closure for Melina and other lose ends. The lack of new endings and questionable final boss with Shota Femto and his buck broken brother along with some story flaws are my biggest gripes out of what is otherwise a very solid DLC. >>1031616 > Then again, there are people who thought you were actually meant to chip away for half an hour at the Asylum Demon with the broken hilt sword, so nothing surprises me anymore. Of course you can do what I did, bomb the Ass Demon and then spend 30 hours trying to reach the STR needed to wield the hammer with my pyro build.
>>1031667 You can do lots of things, that's what is cool about Dark Souls. But there is a difference between "I'm going to do something retarded for a challenge" and "well, I guess chipping away at the boss 1HP at a time is how it's meant to be".
One thing that I have learned about my current and recent Bloodborne run is that if you are planning on doing a bloodtinge run what you need to do is basically just do a skill run with some extra bloodtinge investment then shift more toward bloodtinge once you reach Cainhurst. Trying to force bloodtinge early is just torture.
Actually I'm not even certain if I like a bloodtinge run. The Chikage isn't as prohibitive as what I thought it was going to be. Transformed it's pretty much just slow poison that you can turn off whenever you want but I've found that it's just annoying enough to kill me when I get suddenly knocked down to low health and am still stuck in a stun animation where I can't immediately deactivate it. Which leads me to not transforming it as much as I would otherwise and therefor not getting the bloodtinge benefit out of it. It also swings a tad slower for what I would expect a skill weapon of its size to do. It's totally a good weapon and viable but it's not the pocket nuke I was expecting out of a health leaching weapon.

That was a fun ride, didn't expect the nose staff being fun to use.
>>1025389 >wolf missing arm >orangutan missing arm >dragon missing arm it's like pottery
>>1032307 Apparently once you go into a new NG cycle the staff loses all its golden leaves and stuff and only reblooms again as you keep telling lies.

Can you not get firearms in chalice dungeons? I was hoping for an early Rosmarinus.

>>999642 >death by snusnu This was almost painful to watch.
>>1002069 I would not be shocked if Mihoyo is a CCP psyop to eliminate sexualisation and degeneracy from video games. They are technocrats and probably have strings in government lobbies and corporate marketing spheres to make western and japanese games less competitively sexual. Then when that damage is done, they'll tone down their own sexo. Mihoyo literally invested heavy into neural networks, big data and other social engineering ventures. Which is a shame, because Xiao is best girl.
>>1003156 This game desperately needs the emulator now. It looks APPALLING on PS4/5. It plays abysmally too now. It needs actual mods to be as good as anything after it. The story and setting is neato, but the gameplay is uh... kinda lacking.
>>1035487 >but the gameplay is uh... kinda lacking. I wouldn't say it's lacking, at least any more than any FromSouls game feels lacking as compared to Nioh. I really got spoiled with Nioh's skilltree combo and stance mechanics. On the other hand Bloodborne does have a few wonky aspects. Easily the worst thing is the no estus healing. There's a point in every Bloodborne playthrough that has you farming for vials. And it really just is the healing thing. Sekiro used the same "MP" system and just renamed quicksilver bullets to spirit emblems and it works fine there. The other thing is the bonfire system is weird. Throwback to DeS I guess, which makes sense considering the development, but not being able to just sit at lamp and reset the level or to teleport directly from lamp to lamp is just awkward. There's some other mild wonkiness here and there like no burn status and having to go home to switch your "rings" that there's only one upgrade slap per NG cycle but I'm not sure if any of those are truly complain-worthy and if they are than they aren't by very much. There's also the chalice dungeon thing and the having to farm for blood gems but those things are so completely optional side content that it really isn't worth fussing about. Other than the fact that I fucking hate Undead Giants.
China is full of mentally opted bugmen. Of course they wan to desexualize all of us 'cos their women look like little boys.
I can see why Italian souls didn't caught on, I've had more game crashes than boss attempts.

>>1035576 What anon, don't you love 360 degree instakill spins that happen at a moment's notice? Doing that shit again with a bloodtinge/gun build and later a magic build was so fucking satisfying after all that fucking flailing with a meele build the first playthrough. Same with that fucking fire dog.
(505.39 KB 500x277 1455121426448.gif)

>>1035635 Even then I don't feel completely justified in complaining too much about chalice dungeon bosses and enemies because they are literally unfinished cut content that was restored in a completely optional super hard challenge mod scaled for NG+ and above. That being said who ever decided to put Chalice Rom in that tiny little coat closet was either a Goddamn moron or a sadist. >Doing that shit again with a bloodtinge/gun build and later a magic build was so fucking satisfying after all that fucking flailing with a meele build the first playthrough. It so very much is. I even like to co op when I'm on an Arc build because I can actually help the host instead of getting one tapped by the giant or the dog.
>>1035722 >put rom in that little coat closest lmao some of the chalice dungeon bosses are utterly fucked. And this is someone who just made dungeons for lels & went until my stomach couldn't take anymore. got real gud at one point but had to put it down. Came back multiple times but the magic wasn't really the same I need to emulate BB on Pc when shadps4 has better compatibility, since lol fuck the ps4
>>1035733 I think the key trick is if you are in NG only do Pthumeru and Central Pthumeru and then switch to Hintertomb and do it then Lower Hintertomb and save the rest for NG+ except for Isz at endgame. If you can beat standard Ebi then you can beat chalice Ebi. If you specifically need a Beastclaw making but not progressing or completing Loran is probably the best way to go about it. I'm not sure if you can use a glyph to get a easy Beastclaw from non Loran root chalices or not.
(6.71 MB 640x360 Madman Wallar.mp4)

>>1035854 Forgot to add that in particular Defiled is just fucking plain impossible NG unless you are either extremely over leveled or are pure Arc/Blood or both. It's not worth the pain. If you want to complete all chalices just plan on NG+ or even NG+2. I've done it NG and I was level 200 by the time I killed the Yharnam and I had 99 Arc as well. Also doing Hintertomb nets you the comfy Madman Set.
>>1035854 >Loran I need to correct something. Another good reason to open Loran is because the first lamp has an excellent echos farming location and a place to farm crescent blood gems too. It's way better for endgame than slime scholar Columbine and I think it's better than Mergo's pig fisting route as well. It's certainly more convenient. I had it mixed up and thought the farming spot was in Lower Loran, which takes some effort to get to. Regular loran is totally accessible, the hardest part is farming enough ritual blood (4). It is a bit dangerous since it's a room full of high level female beast patients, including a matriarch. So you need fire + serrated + any beast hunter gems on a high enough upgraded weapon but there's no other complications to have to worry about in the room. My two favorite farming sticks, saw spear and church pick work great in this room.

For all the bugs and crashes this game has, being able to keep your souls and double it if you die and crash during a boss fight is what keeps me playing.
Did anyone ever tried Code Vein back in the day when it's just out, How did you feel about the game. Is it even considered a souls like?
>>1038337 I meant to but never got around to playing it.
So was this really it? We're not going to know anything more about Melina, the Gloam-eyed Queen? All this world-building for nothing... Oh well, maybe Elden Ring II will come out in 20 years.
>>1038337 I tried Code Vein back in the day, I'd say it's got heavy souls inspiration in its DNA. It's the middle ground between a pure soulsclone and a souls inspired game like Nioh.
>>1039837 That's honestly way more disappointing than Sekiro getting no DLC at all.
>>1039837 They revealed nothing about Velka in the Dark Souls DLCs, they aren't gonna reveal more about Melina or GEQ.
>>1039951 For me it ain't the lore part so much as that she doesn't get a proper ending and by that same token the player is pretty much forced to go along with someone else's plans to fix or discard the Elden Ring. Presumably a walk away ending is possible after you break into the Erdtree because at that point if you don't mend the ring than Ranni or the next Frenzy Flame lord, possibly Midra himself, will walk in and fuck shit up. It kind of leaves you as an errand boy. Which to be fair you are in all other Souls games, but in those other games shit's already fucked and you're just trying to keep the engine running a little longer. Except Demon's Souls where you can actually fix things. In Bloodborne there's nothing even to try to fix.
>>1039837 I hope he changes his minds has he left a fuck load of lose ends.
(83.35 KB 500x523 1554331569.jpg)

>>1039837 Well if this is true I hope he reveals and releases the next Souls type game soon. I don't know what to think about the rumor of the Magic Souls or possibly Magicborne game that rumors have been circulating about. I have a feeling he wants to return to a game with Bloodborne type concepts and setting next. Maybe in the mean time we'll get another Sekiro. That didn't take too long to crank out and it's not like they really need to change up the mechanics for a sequel. So they should have a ready made foundation.
>>1038337 I did. It was a pretty solid Soulslike. Though it's a bit short and the DLCs added later didn't add much of value besides a fight with Deus Pytha. I remember really liking the ability to switch your builds on the fly and adapt greatly in that way, but still offer a wide variety of viable play styles and give almost every blood code something to make you want to main it. Blood shoes is easily the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a souls game though, in the best way. Chaos blade self damage in exchange for infinite stamina, shit was fucking amazing and worked really well with hammers and other great weapons that the blood code it was hard locked to could use really well. It's like a really strange cross between DS2 and Bloodborne. Where despite how hectic it is there's still a rhythm of stamina management and pacing all to the fights. Also having very good build variety even though there was one or two really broken things like Final Journey. Fionn ended up being my favorite blood code since it was a sort of str/fth paladin build equivalent (odd that the lore blurb makes you think it's a giantdad/END build code) and offered a pretty good selection of physical attacks and spells with the right things equipped. Plus the aforementioned blood shoes shenanigans, often paired with the Huge Hammer that dealt blood damage for some reason and impact wave or whatever the skills was that made all your ground hits generate shockwaves.
