Touhou Thread: Take it Easy!!! Edition Anonymous 10/23/2024 (Wed) 16:31:29 Id: 9365a5 No. 1030988 >>1031015 >>1031187 >>1031196 >>1068698
A new thread for the series that defines the Otaku. Last thread was on post 500 and it's been a while since someone made a new thread, so I figured I'd do it myself. If you haven't had the chance, get Artificial Dream in Arcadia on steam since it's really good and the dev is making free DLC that lets people make their own dungeons. What 2hu and 2hu spin offs have you been playing /v/?

>What 2hu and 2hu spin offs have you been playing /v/? Are you implying 2hu fans play the games?
>>1030988 (OP) There's Valkyrie of Phantasm I tried. Plays like the DBZ Budokai Tenkaichi games. THere's also Rookie Attorney Legendary which is an Ace Attorny rip off that has a questionable translation.
>>1031015 Shame about the translation
Start with 6 or 8. 6 due to it being the purest Touhou experience and 8 due to it being forgiving but still challenging. You can fight me in soku over this. >>1031013 This is /v/. I thought /v/ was about videogames.

I love this high energy retard
tuho toho tohu tuhu
>>1031036 As do I, her retarded amount of confidence is endearing.
>>1031036 >retard Cirno can read! And do maths! And she's 10 times stronger than anything you could come up with!
Rember Happy Day
>>1031013 Only the cool ones
>>1031013 Yeah, not really a fan of the game series. Dropped it after the first one. What was this Zune guy thinking?
>>1030988 (OP) >What 2hu and 2hu spin offs have you been playing /v/? Last one I played was 15.5. I think Yuuma is cool, I like her design. She honestly might be one of my favorites. It's strikes a pleasing balance between fantastical and simple, she looks like she fits in the Touhou world but she doesn't look over the top. The story is okay, and the soundtrack is pretty good. Highlights include Kutaka's theme, as well as the Yuuma themes. And the sprites look very nice. The gameplay isn't too great though, and it kind of spoils the game for me. I end up just quickly mashing buttons, trying to pull off moves and do damage, even though the game seems to want to emphasize dodging with precise movements. This is especially apparent with the final boss. Is this a common sentiment, or do I just have to get good?

>>1030988 (OP) (heil) >What 2hu and 2hu spin offs have you been playing /v/? I've been thinking of starting Luna Nights but haven't gotten around to it. I see it has mixed reviews but I really enjoyed the Record of Lodoss War metroidvania from the same team. Has anyone here played Luna Knights?
>>1031187 Meant to type 17.5
>>1031196 >Luna Nights >mixed reviews On steam its overwhelmingly positive. Either way, I had a lot of fun. Beautiful game, has a lot of cool mechanics. Fun bosses. Would heavily recommend. Their next game looks fun too.
>>1031199 Shit you're right, I got it confused with the Overlord metroidvania which has mixed reviews. I guess that tips it, I'm playing Luna Nights next.
>>1031187 The 17.5 Yuuma or the 19 Yuuma? It's a bit weird to be honest. Coming from 12.3. It is fairly common in the touhou fighting games. Though 17.5 is far more simple since you can dodge everything. If I remember correctly, you can turn the bullets into water by hitting one of them and then collect it to do a big spell. >>1031196 It's a great game with a great soundtrack. I have been returning to 9 and the bullshit gets real. It does feel far better than 19 though.
>>1031201 Is Luna Nights a Metroidvania as well?
>>1031265 It is.
>>1031206 >The 17.5 Yuuma or the 19 Yuuma? 17.5 Yuuma. I haven't played 19 yet. >Though 17.5 is far more simple since you can dodge everything. If I remember correctly, you can turn the bullets into water by hitting one of them and then collect it to do a big spell. You can, that's the main way the game encourages you to try and dodge things/move around. I'm able to do so, but when things get intense, I end up pushing a lot of the same buttons to get in there and do damage while I have the chance.

SAY NOTAKU TO OTAKU
>>1031187 You can't get away with super aggressive play with the later characters, depending on the boss fight. Murasa gets shat on by Utsuho and Yuuma, for example, you even need to take a very specific routing for the goat's final spell card. Yuuma is also a very cool character. She's definitely in my top 5 2hus. >>1031291 19 Yuuma is a little derpier looking, and not as bloodthirsty due to happenings during the events of TH17.5, but she's still a pretty good character and has the fun play gimmick of being able to vacuum up the entire screen's worth of bullets.
>>1031303 >You can't get away with super aggressive play with the later characters, depending on the boss fight That seems to be true. It's just one of those cases where, even if one can get away with aggressive gameplay at the start, the game is built to knock the player down a few pegs if he keeps trying the same strats at the end of the game. That final Yuuma spell card is brutal. >19 Yuuma is a little derpier looking, and not as bloodthirsty due to happenings during the events of TH17.5, but she's still a pretty good character and has the fun play gimmick of being able to vacuum up the entire screen's worth of bullets. I see, she does look less aggressive. Which makes sense lore wise, since the whole underground oil incident was solved/ended. The art style of 17.5 also helped her look more angry and ferocious, too. I might prefer her 17.5 version then, but maybe my mind will change after experiencing 19.
>>1031303 I like the contrast between original Yuuma and 19's babyface Yuuma.

>>1031196 Luna Nights is one of the best metroidvanias. Go play it.
>>1031459 Koumajou Densetsu 2 better
>>1032351 The Koumajou Densetsu games were good. But Luna Nights was way more polished.
>>1031459 is the cirno boss fight still console exclusive?
>>1032423 It's on the PC version. Have been so for at least the past 3 years.
3D Touhou is Cool
>>1037625 It is. These 3D animations are some of the coolest fan creations to come out of the Touhou community. I've watched the Eternal Night Part 1 a couple dozen times at this point. I hope ZUN has seen them too.
>>1037625 I imagine 3D touhou would be really hard since I bet I couldn't tell how close a big glowing orb is without seeing it from a 2D perspective.
>>1037720 It's easy to tell if done properly. More of a problem would be knowing what happens behind you. You would need a 4D view to have full awareness like in the 2D games.
>>1037720 Someone actually made a 3D recreation of Embodiment of Scarlet Devil years ago. It's not nearly as bad or disorienting as you think. Projectiles all still come from your opponent so you don't get ass blasted. Now that I think about it, fighting Seija in 3D danmaku would be the most bullshit thing to ever exist lol.
>>1037720 I know that there's some game devs that were working on the concept. I wonder those projects are coming along?

Does anyone actually play the .5 fighting games or are they just meme games?
>>1045158 They're pretty fun to play with friends. I certainly wouldn't call them meme games either. Don't expect to fight random people online or anything though, the games aren't made with matchmaking in mind. I'm also sick of these fucking tourneyfags and esports niggers who think just because a fightan doesn't have 1k+ concurrent players or some wild shit that it's automatically a joke game or just because it differs too much from street fighter it's suddenly "not real fightan". You can jump down, wow, I guess it's not a fighting game anymore and is just le funny meme game XD XD
>>1045158 I don't like fighting games, so I've never played them.
>>1045165 I'm a tourneyfag and I don't think a fightan without 1k+ current players or that differs too much from Street Fighter is a le funny joke meme game Don't blame us all because of trolls, blame the trolls
>>1045220 No, I will continue to blame tourneyfags since they are the ones I see this mindset from the most. Just because you aren't a retard doesn't suddenly make every single esports-obsessed nigger not a retard.
>>1045165 >>1045220 >>1045230 >they are the ones I see this mindset from Internet places aren't real life, they're targeted by trolls who reel people in with bait Those people, jaded, then troll to "hit back" in a bait cycle driven by social algorithms that gives webmasters shitty but profitable traffic My locals are a good crowd
>>1045158 There isn't really a reason to play the fighting games beyond 12.3 Hisoutensoku and maybe 17.5. Though I guess 7.5 does have certain mechanics that 12.3 have been heavily nerfed or just removed. They are most certainly played, somewhat. Game is fun though.

I tried to install Touhou Six via lutris and even though it show's it's installed it doesn't show the game for some reason and still records play time. Did I do something wrong? I thought I was suppose to choose the Vpatch.exe file?
>Lutris If that doesn't work then just install it manually like you would on Windows, the pre-patched 2hu 6es floating around the Internets should install and work out of the box though .wav playback can sometimes be broken. The Nipponese original requires the msgothic and msmincho fonts from Japanese Windows 95+ to display moonrunes and read filenames along with LANG=ja_JP.utf8 as the CLI locale. t. has never used a wine launcher.
>>1057683 For Lutris is the setup file suppose to be vpatch? I checked and it appeared that's the one it should be but it gave me an error instead? What would be the proper setup file. I did use a prepatched english version of it. >The Nipponese original requires the msgothic and msmincho fonts from Japanese Windows 95+ to display moonrunes and read filenames along with LANG=ja_JP.utf8 as the CLI locale. I don't have that currently, is there a locale emulator I can use for linux?
>>1057671 I never did it through Lutris. I just launch it with >env LANG="ja_JP.UTF-8" wine vpatch.exe

>>1057671 >>1057733 Ignore everything else. Download the version of 06 from here: https://moriyashrine.org/files/file/13-touhou-6-koumakyou-the-embodiment-of-scarlet-devil/ It's pre-patched with the auto-patcher (ThCRAP), english-patch, v-sync, pre-converted from dx8 to dx9 and the fix for the japanese local shit. Open it with vanilla wine, or proton if you prefer, and it just werks.
>>1057776 Thanks anon
>>1057776 Turns out the issue I have is related to region locale since my client even though I have Japanese language built into it I can't transform the text into proper Japanese.
>>1057863 Hope you have fun playing Touhou 6 when you get everything figured out, anon! Make sure to let us know what you think of it if you'd like.
>>1057868 I managed to make some progress by setting the game's locale to Japanese and as a result I'm able to play the game as it's installing but if I close the game I can't play it again due to some type of error.
(601.71 KB 1000x600 Touhou Six Screenshot.png)

Made even more progress with selecting the english executable on ludris after choosing Japanese locale.
It's promising so far but I'm expecting the same result in the end.
>>1057683 I generally recommend the Touhou collection: https://nyaa.si/view/1743411
>>1057868 I finally managed to get it installed by choosing 1st pic on the left. I managed to get as far as stage 5 On both easy and normal mode and managed to fight Sakuya Izayoi on the former, I didn't win unfortunately.
>>1058566 Finally managed to complete and beat Sakuya though I had to exploit a bunch of bomb after dying so many times. Unfortunately I did this all on easy mode and got the bad ending where the fog has yet to be lifted. Game's as fun and hard as I remembered it. First time I managed to reach an ending in this game.
>>1058656 Try to learn to use bombs. I even have problems with properly using them. You get a few in each life. On normal you should also be able to get 1-2 extra lives before Sakuya. I've been attempting Lunatic, got to Stage 5 so far...
(615.88 KB 1920x1080 Bad end No 2.png)

Finally Managed to reach the sixth stage on normal mode but so far I've only managed to get the second bad ending. I barely managed to beat Remilia Scarlet by the skin of my teeth with zero lives left in the end.
>>1054138 I 1CC'd IN 6B on normal using Reimu and Yukari as usual. I didn't 1CC Eirin the first time. In my second attempt, the game crashed when I got hit by her last spell. FUCK. This one is piss easy. Enemies drop bombs more often, but it gets balanced out by needing 2 bombs instead of 1 whenever you deathbomb. Enemy bullets clear more often as well. And you can have about 7 extra lives if you change it in the settings. Marisa is my favorite boss. I find it really funny that one of her spell cards is clearly stolen from Patchouli. I dunno if Earthlight Ray is a reference to Rumia's Moonlight Ray spellcard. Tewi has a surprisingly difficult pattern to dodge. I should prolly try 2hu 7.5 before I move on to 2hu 9.

>>1061944 >I should prolly try 2hu 7.5 before I move on to 2hu 9. Those games play differently, so I decided to come back and 1CC 2hu 6 extra stage using Reimu A. Healthy Patchouli isn't messing around, I bombed all her spell cards to make sure I made it to Flan with enough lives. Flan is an absolute nightmare, especially with Reimu A. In her first spell card, the homing amulets don't track her down, so I had to aim manually. Even with all the shit I had to do to maximize survivability, like the Starbow Break safe spot, I barely made it with only 2 bombs left at the end. At least I got to see Flan's clothes get torn apart .
2hu fans mostly didn't even play 2hu lmao
>>1068554 At least the ones that didn't jump on board until around the mid 2010s, when the japs started migrating all their MMDs, music and meme shit to jewtube, certainly.
>>1030988 (OP) I've been trying to 1CC EotSD with Marissa so I can get the true ending before moving on to the other games, any recommendation besides GitGud? I tend to do decently but then I lose my first life and then I just tilt and don't play as carefully resulting in a domino that quickly leads to a continue and render the run moot. I get up to Meiling with losing a life or two at most but then Patchouli comes down and just smacks my shit and then Sakuya's goons on stage 5 take any bombs and lives I have left with their pseudo-tracking bullshit.

>>1068698 >then Sakuya's goons on stage 5 take any bombs and lives I have left with their pseudo-tracking bullshit. Which ones? If you mean these ones that shoot in a circle, then all you need to do is not move at all while they shoot, and then just give a slight step to the side between waves of firing. If you mean the clusterfuck that comes after the Sakuya midboss fight, you can make that shorter by deliberately dragging out Sakuya's first pattern.

>>1068698 >any recommendation besides GitGud? Make sure to download thprac. https://github.com/touhouworldcup/thprac/releases/tag/v2.2.1.9 It took me about 4 months of practicing to 1CC 2hu 6. GitGud is the best advice. The skills you learn can also be applied to other games, so if you can 1CC 2hu 6, you can 1CC pretty much any game other than 2hu 12 and 15. >I tend to do decently but then I lose my first life and then I just tilt and don't play as carefully resulting in a domino that quickly leads to a continue and render the run moot. Try to stay calm. I find myself having a harder time dealing with nerves more than any bullet pattern. >Meiling Her final spell card is RNG, just bomb if you don't want to deal with it. >Patchy What shot type are you using, btw? Patchouli has different spell cards depending on what shot type and character you use. >Stage 5 2nd pic rel, you can safespot above the red fairies that shoot random bullets. >>1068877 (checked) What this guy said, but instead of dragging out Sakuya's first pattern, you have to capture both patterns when you only have 10-5 seconds left so you can skip the clusterfuck entirely. 3rd pic rel, you still have to deal with the aimed circles that come afterward, which shouldn't be a problem if you know how to dodge aimed bullets. Make sure to capture Sakuya's midboss spell card to get an extra life. Stage 5s are often 1CC enders, but 2hu 6 stage 5 becomes one of the easier stage 5s once you learn about the safespot and timeout.
>That stage 5 advice Thanks, will try that when I'll play through those again at some point. >>1068877 >Which ones? If you mean these ones that shoot in a circle, then all you need to do is not move at all while they shoot, and then just give a slight step to the side between waves of firing. At any point in the stage really, though the start filters me a bit and then when I get used to their initial pattern they change shit up the later ones and catch me offguard as I'm parsing the smaller shitters with their rice grains. Sometimes I can get through the wave of fairies unscathed but it's really inconsistent. Really I'd propably be able to get more done if I used the bombs I acquire more but it's more that I make a small mistake thinking I have the situation under control and lose 3+ bombs that I'd have used. >>1068921 >What shot type are you using, btw? Patchouli has different spell cards depending on what shot type and character you use. I bumrushed to the bad ending with Reimu A by spamming bombs at Remilia but I wanted to do a legit run with Marissa B, as her bomb is very good and the damage helps shred the littler shits and then do Reimu B legit with the accumulated experience. It's not Patchouli's adjusted spellcards so much as her beam bullshit that gets stacked with the weak tracking shots, forcing really awkward movements.Spell cards I can scathe by with some difficulty but her cross beams completely fucks me over if I'm on the wrong side of the screen, something that gets increasingly harder to keep track of as I to dodge shots and try to keep the hurt on. Sure I can try to bomb them as Patchouli's HP is relatively small but that's side stepping the issue and leaves me naked for Sakuya's stage and her pseudotracking in the midstage boss period. The actual fight I can deal with some lost lives, but the mid stage boss fight just coats the screen in kunai and knives and the gaps become increasingly smaller if you don't bait her properly.
>>1069017 >Sakuya stage shower These are probably the easiest to handle. Some of her spellcards are fun and that's where it gets interesting. >Patchy's Koa original You just need to get good intuition on when and where to move, or just bomb it. The beams always start in 2 different positions sequentially. All these other particles, you have to figure out a certain feeling for it. >mid stage kunai There is a very simple trick that you will need in every single game. They are all aimed at you, meaning, if you simply wait it out until the last bullet, you get a pretty normal pattern that you just need to dodge. I do not remember whether you're supposed to do that with focusing, but you basically aim between the big knifes at a tiny gap that gets created by simply standing still.
>>1069071 >>1069017 I have forgotten to mention, that only 6 makes it extremely difficult to deathbomb, which may rescue you many times. Another tip is to use bombs if you have them, since they get replenished with each life you lose. You will waste them regardless by dying, which is worse. Later games give you enough reaction time to deathbomb. But 6 is the most pure, so it is the best to start from, unless you want PC98 autism.

>>1069017 >Patchouli's laser nonspells Pic 2 related. The arrow indicates where the lasers are heading. 1. I stay in place and wait for Patchy to shoot aimed bullets at me. 2. Move to a different spot to bait another attack. 3. It creates a gap big enough for me to move through. Pic 3 is a riskier move, which is to take advantage of Marisa's fast movement speed to aggressively move through the small gaps. Just focus on dodging and don't worry too on trying to deal damage. Marisa should be able to deal more than enough damage as long as you happen to move under Patchy. 1/2

There will always be gaps between the kunais and knives. You'll always be able to move from right to left or vice versa through the gaps depending on which direction they're thrown. This is the best option imo. You can also move through the tiny gaps between the kunais, but I don't recommend it. >Sakuya's Misdirection spell card Just bomb.
