There's a need for change on copyright laws to benefit mods Anonymous 01/27/2025 (Mon) 18:18:41 Id: 2fe0c7 No. 1065640 >>1065659 >>1065661 >>1065705 >>1065711 >>1065838 >>1065903 >>1065905 >>1066025
>Be russian modder >3 gopniks and you are working hard on a project >Basically bring Vice City into the GTA 4 engine >Work hard af for free, for years, since you love the game >Make a trailer to show your work >Take Two copyright strikes you >It didn't last a single day on Youtube >"wtf? mod is not even out yet" you think >Since Russia has been basically at war with the west they can't do shit >Say fuck it and release a complete build to play it I hate Take Two and Cuckstar. Rockstar has the greatest portafolio in the gaming industry, they're literally the owners of the biggest money printing machine in entertainment, 4 russians can't hurt their bottom line at all. They have a modding community Bethesa would kill to have (specially since Starfiled was mediocre at the very best) but they love to kill those projects and treat them like shit, instead of allowing them, or monetize them by buying them, like Valve kinda did back in the day. <What kind of changes do you think are needed in the videogame industry? <Are you doing your part by sharing and seeding these kind files? <What other companies that you know are against modding on their games? I think that any mod, as long is not able to be usable on competitive matches (only offline and private matches), is not monetized, or the team behind it is not trying to pass it as official, it should be allowed to exist and be shared.
>to benefit mods To benefit everyone that isn't a greedy lawyer kike Copyright law has barely changed since the advent of the internet and is an authoritarian abomination. I will praise the chinks solely for giving it the finger.
>>1065653 >>1065640 (OP) You guys really trust the government to have the common mans best interest at heart? Maybe after Trump's second term IF he does a good job and more people are aware of the shit that corpos and big government get away with, although even then it's a huge stretch to say that the government will side with the consumer, even if they did so 20 years ago with BLEEM vs Sony
>>1065640 (OP) >be take two >go to flea market >see this >can't do shit >report a youtube video of a gta mod in revenge Just jewish things.
>>1065640 (OP) >release a trailer Wow, just like every single other fan mod in existence, you DON'T FUCKING TELL ANYONE UNTIL IT'S READY TO RELEASE. What did you think was going to happen? Every modern MGS remake gets destroyed by Konami because those faggots can't help but brag about what they're doing.

Copyright law has been retarded nonsense for two centuries now. It is purely detrimental and has absolutely no worth, value, or use whatsoever. It should be utterly wiped off the face of the earth.

>Since Russia has been basically at war with the west they can't do shit >Say fuck it and release a complete build to play it This is how it's fucking done. Good job slavs, do not let abstractions intimidate you.
>>1065833 All laws should.
>>1065836 No laws at all is even more stupid, because then the big companies who fuck you in the ass figuratively already are going to go full AnCap and build private armies to fuck you in the ass literally. >>1065833 Just stop treating companies as individuals capable of owning property, make copyright rest solely with the artist instead of companies. Take all major film, music, and publishing companies and strip all their "intellectual property away, is the author/director/artist still alive? Good, they can have the copyright for a twenty year extension they have to renew, if the author/artist/director is dead it's automatically public domain.
>>1065640 (OP) >What kind of changes do you think are needed in the videogame industry? Modders who do dumb shit like this. Why didn't the guy put this much effort into developing his own game?
>>1065837 This already happens with governments :^)
>>1065640 (OP) Rockstar has every right to put down your mod if they hate videogames and money. It might be fucking stupid, but you cannot legally prevent people from being idiots. If you didn't make it from scratch it's not yours. No matter how much you 'love' someones work. Make your own damn legally distinct GTH Heist City.
>>1065903 They also technically can't prevent distribution of said mod, especially if it's bundled with a build of the game that can't be updated to remove compatibility.
>>1065640 (OP) >the greatest San Andreas and Vice City were the only good ones.
>>1065640 (OP) Copywrite law does not protect fan made works period, with the exception of japan to a degree. Until that changes publishers are fully entitled to C&D on mods and fan games, just to clarify just because they can doesn't mean it's a good thing. >>1065904 So do you mean a legal predicament or 'can't stop the signal'?
FUCK COPYKIKE That is all.
>>1065661 >You guys really trust the government to have the common mans best interest at heart? What the hell are you talking about? The government works in tandem with companies not only to change the rules towards the massive corpos favor, but to also enforce said copyright laws.
>be against copyright >but also want consoles to be back "for competition" These two viewpoints not compatible.
>>1066032 Copyright laws are designed to protect the small guy from getting overtaken by some cheating conglomerate/elite, but at the same time, copyright laws as-is are abused to strike down completely harmless mods and fangames. I think there ought to be some kind of grayzone like how Japan gets around copyright law by having limited/independent events where fans can sell and trade in their garage kits or merchandise of otherwise licensed characters. Think about it. This is one of those cases where the barrier of entry is actually too low for bigger companies to enter in to rather than the typical problem of a barrier of entry being too high. It's unlikely to result in people losing their rightful copyrights and it allows healthy competition in a sector that could use improvement. It might even be a sort of 'aggregate' form of competition which could serve as an excuse for bigger companies to put out higher quality products indirectly. I think it is an idea worth exploring. As far as I know there is currently no such equivalent in America.
>>1066055 Wonder how come people aren't selling mickey mouse manga at comiket. Or handing out board/video games with unlicensed characters, or something like lego kits of nintendo characters.

>>1066059 >Wonder how come people aren't selling mickey mouse manga at comiket. Nobody really cares about Mickey. Winnie the Pooh on the other hand.
(779.46 KB 4000x3000 Winnie the Pooh.jpg)

>>1066064 >Winnie the Pooh CHINA NUMBA WAN
>>1066066 I don't think there's been a recent political moment quite as embarrassing as when the Chinese government went nuclear over this. Imagine if Orange Man started a mass censorship campaign with arrests and international media bans over internet nerds calling him Dorito Hitler. It made Xi look so insecure and petty and threatened by a meme, ironically weakening China's projected image of strength.
>>1066088 I think it's funnier that the original joke was probably more about Obama being a Tigger.
>>1066055 >>1066059 Japan is actually a lot more hellish on copyright matters with the patents and such. However >Japanese media companies are aware that a lot of their artists on board started, or had some connection whatsoever, with the doujin scene so there are literally zero benefits for everyone concerned to attack something that cultivates the growth of artists >since "doujin" means by itself "fanwork" (only a dumb gaijin believes it directly translates to porn), the goods are supplied in limited quantities and most often fully funded from the creator's own pockets, so they hardly make bank.
>>1066092 Japan as a whole is terrible software development. They have pathological obsession of controlling their software and making it proprietary as fuck. So it's not a surprise no one buys their software except other japs or they just import a shitton of somebody's else software instead, the only real exception is vidga games because that's the only time when you would ever want 'proprietary' code. Even then those flaws jap coding rises it's head when they make a PC port.
>>1066092 That could be the intent but I still bought a made in abyss dungeon crawler online, friends in the dark I think it was, and I'm sure there's ways to buy digital copies of the doujin manga from artists, so there isn't always the scarcity factor.
