Bootleg video games Anonymous 02/18/2025 (Tue) 22:04:56 Id: 8a81b3 No. 1072636 >>1072643 >>1072646 >>1072677 >>1073055 >>1073056 >>1073131
To cut a long story short, I've been seeing these "X-in-1" systems floating around for the past several years, but it seemed like all of them were at least treated with some amount of "prestige". As companies at least tried to sell them as being genuine licensed things. However, I ran across pic related at a Walmart and it made me wonder if anyone has ever bought these systems. I was almost considering getting it since it's only $10.

>>1072636 (OP) There is no point in buying those things nowadays. I had a fake PS Vita back in the day, and the thing was fairly decent. It could even run a few GBA games. Eventually, after a year or so it stopped working and the battery started swelling really badly. I wish I still had it with me, but the thing turned into a genuine hazard. As far as I know, these new consoles only come with totally legal and legit games that are literal copies of better games. In the end, those things are chinese devices that will turn into waste sooner than later. >>1072644 This is /v/. We're all stupid gay retards.
>>1072646 >pic that looks more like a fake PSP than a Vita.
>>1072642 If you are who I think you are then I want to remind you that Strive was shit and I was right about ArcSys ruining the heavy metal theming of Guilty Gear.

>>1072648 That's the funny thing. The one in the picture it's not exactly the one I had, but it's pretty close. The one I posted is clearly attempting to look like a Switch. I remember that mine had a single functional left stick, and a solid plastic right stick engraved into the case. I can only guess that the pcb and the other parts were from a PSP bootleg, and were subsequently put into a "Vita" shell. The case was totally black, and the plastic was absolute cancer. This must have been around 2012/3. There were also more obvious PSP bootlegs, like the classic PVP, but they were considerably worse than the vita ones. I assume that it must have been because they were older models, and cheaper too.
>>1072636 (OP) Most are absurdly low end ARM shitboxes running bad emulators, it's not really worth it. On chinese site you can find actually decent hardware on some of those but even then I wouldn't consider them worth your money considering they're more along the $100 mark (though they do up to PS2 and are not handhelds).

G R A N D D A D ? !
>>1072636 (OP) The one in that picture is most likely a famiclone and doesn't do anything other than play a bunch of NES games badly
>>1072636 (OP) >However, I ran across pic related at a Walmart and it made me wonder if anyone has ever bought these systems. I was almost considering getting it since it's only $10. $10 will have shit buttons, get a better bootleg

>>1072636 (OP) Only in recent times have budget emulation devices become reasonable to get. I picked up an Anbernic RG35XX-SP (mostly since I like clamshells) which is really cozy as a console and I've even gotten my own custom games running natively. Many of these units are ARM and have a few different custom Linux OSes. If you want something pocket-sized and dedicated to games (as opposed to something awful like a phone) then you can usually pick budget devices up for 50-80$ depending on if it's from Anbernic's own website or Amazon. Just keep the charger cord your device of choice comes with and don't use the cheap paper wafer SD card they come with. RG40XX-H is of similar power but has two analogue sticks. Either can run some low-end 3D stuff, but you're pushing it with Dreamcast and PS2/Gamecube are probably where you need a more powerful (and expensive) device. I'd suggest either of these devices are good for portable emulation with possibility of ported PC games and don't care about that. With an 128GB SD card you can store full ROMsets for almost every major platform and have room to spare. A 10$ Walmart 999-in-1 Game Unit is going to be absolutely worthless garbage and probably less customizable/powerful. There are other things than Anbernic that have a decent reputation, but I can only speak for these two units.
