I had high hopes but it's been disappointing. Performance is meh and I tried the game on Linux, windows 7, and windows 10 on two different sets of hardware. Once in a while, the game will have a stutter or FPS will drop for a moment once in a while for seemingly no reason.
Steam page blurbs reference Ion Storm and Looking Glass Studios' games as inspiration. They should bring up EYE instead. From what I have seen after about 2 hours of playing, the game is EYE but with less enemies and some Deus Ex elements thrown in. It has EYE's hallmarks like large maps, tons of dead ends, and very vague objective descriptions mius the EYE's markers. If devs want to go the no-markers route, they should look to games like thief or Deus Ex that used environments to guide people in more or less subtle ways or let you ask around for more pointers.
There are other annoyances. Building a staircase out of crates to get over walls or to ladders was especially annoying. When stacking one box on top of another, the one is unstable and quick to fall off. It's generally better to burn some of the energy on a high jump than playing with stacking boxes. The game is dark as hell too. Night vision is probably one of the two most useful abilities. Dialogue boxes could be bigger too to accommodate all text options. Alternatively, making an indication that there's dialogue options to scroll down to would be better.
Graphics are just standard PS1-style graphics that is becoming widespread lately within indie ecosystem. As is tradition, it has more in common with the mediocre PS1 graphics instead of the good ones. Don't expect the environments to look as nice as the one in Thief 1 or Legacy of Kain games. This look clashes with the characters and especially Marie who has the most detailed model. Animations are mediocre too. For all my whining, about the look though, it does work to produce oppressive and mysterious atmosphere. What is good however is the UI. Cartoonish Marie, Vitruvian Man reference in the character screen, grungy frames and cables along interfaces are all good. So is all the neon tht's in the environment.
What's also good is that all starting abilities are useful. Although fast running/long jumps and night vision are probably the most useful ones. Climbing all ledges easily is nice too but for some reason grabbing onto ladders felt hit or miss for me. Sound and ambiance, while minimalist, are nice.
Others already covered remaining issues like disappearing items.
One big change the game would benefit from is making the energy system a little bit more forgiving. Either let energy regenerate very slowly or scatter around ways to replenish energy in the environment. Right now you have to be stingy with energy so you do not run out when encountering enemies or an obstacle. People wold whine less about running 40 floors up and down staircases if they could activate faster running more often.

>Though I have to be honest, I've gotten really sick of the faux PS1 look. It was cool for awhile but it's the new pixelshit
Same here. Just like
>>1074537 I am hoping that we'll move to an era where PS2-style graphics are more common.
PS1 graphics obsession has a silver lining in that many devs who decide to go with pixelart for recent releases tend to do it with purpose instead of blindly following a fad. Pixelart's quality in indie games got better on average. Most grabage games moved on to low poly, minimalistic texture-less look or to PS1 style graphics.
