Post about a series that you just finished Anonymous 07/29/2020 (Wed) 17:37:30 No. 181 [Reply] [Last]
Time to make this thread again. Here's an archive of the last thread on 8kunt: https://archive.vn/EAtrt So, I decided to drop UFO Senshi Dai Apolon after 17 episodes. It's not a bad series, it's okay, but I just grew bored with the show. The premise is that Takeshi is the prince of a planet that was conquered by the Dazaan Army, and was sent to Earth as a baby in order to ensure his survival. He then grows up in an orphanage, and gains a passion for American football while living there. Then, on his 16th birthday, he is struck by a meteor that imbues him with the Key Energy power that his planet's people had developed as their "ultimate weapon". Takeshi and his friends are then abducted by his guardian, Rabi, who informs him of his origin and gives him and his friends a giant robot, Dai Apolon, and several UFOs in order to fight off the Dazaan Army and protect the Key Energy that now reside within Takeshi. The rest of the series then details the Dazaan Army's various attempts to gain the Key Energy along with trying to figure out the true identity Dai Apolon's pilot. The series boils down to three different episode were something effects the "UFO Boy Scouts" on a personal level, some outsider gets involved in the fights, or the leaders of the Dazaan Army are trying out one of their various "just created" super-weapons to defeat Dai Apolon. It's pretty formulaic, and it just feels like an attempt to sell toys. There are some moments in the series were it does decide to get a little bit more "mature" with it's premise as innocent people are dying during some of the episodes, but it feels like it's there just to be there and show how "evil" the villains are (As if mass genocide and enslavement across the galaxy wasn't reason enough). And, the show never really moves beyond that. There are a few times were the Dazaans do some espionage and end up kidnapping the wrong people thinking they have times to Dai Apolon, along with some general rivalries and tensions taking place within the various generals of the Dazaan Army, but it never really moves beyond that or does anything unique with it. As for the animation, the art is fine but the show feels very stilted and limited in it's animation. And, with the audio, there really isn't much music to speak of, the sound effects are great, but all the voices sound like the characters are always shouting no matter what they say. Overall, I wasn't really that impressed with UFO Senshi Dai Apolon. Like I said, it isn't a bad series, but I just grew too bored with it to the point that I didn't care about finishing it off.

I finished the first season of Megalobox yesterday. Nowhere near as good as Ashita No Joe, but I liked it enough to want to give season 2 a go. Will start it later today.
>>3959 This went under my radar, been following the manga for a long time. Watched some eps now and I'm glad to see it got a good adaption, although the fancervice was a bit too much for me. Easier to skim/skip it in the manga

Kodomo no Jikan Anonymous 06/23/2022 (Thu) 04:30:04 No. 878 [Reply] [Last]
I just finished reading Kodomo no Jikan and all I gotta say is: God that was such a shit ending. So naturally, it ended the only way you'd expect it to end, with sensei fucking the shit out of Rin (or at least trying, since his dick didn't fit inside and it hurt her) Furthermore, Reiji was an absolute scumbag. why did he got any sort of peace? I wonder if the author was even aware of hos disliked he is, since he is responsible for the mess Rin grew up into by doing what can only be described as grooming. He didn't deserve to end up with Mimi-chan There's a brief time-skip to first year of highschool on the final chapter so they can attain by age of consent, and most notoriously the Ishihara Act and it jumps straight to the action, Rin's body didn't develop so the lolicon could have what they wanted (I assume) and it just fucking ends there. Unless you count the Houkago additional chapter, So both girls waited years to fuck these dudes who are now much older for some fucking reason and somehow Rin didn't talk to sensei once for these three or so years? How is that believable? I have so many nitpicks with this trash, how are people rating it so highly? It's just fucking boring and about 40% of it focuses on the female teachers who are just mind-numbingly inane characters. This is literally just the author's fetish, since she had a crush on her teacher as a child IRL. What are your thoughts?

Plinivs is great, even if you aren't particularly interested in Pliny the Elder (albeit he was an interesting dude if you ask me). Manga is basically a biography of him. >>57920 I wish I could. Read all of it, that is. The anime was good too, it's a shame that the manga never got a full TL. I also want Konpeki no Kantai (Blue Fleet) albeit this is rather alt-history with occult shit and not-Hitler. Still interesting though.

Post all small questions here that do not warrant their own thread. I am reading Dagashi Kashi, but a complete torrent for all the chapters does not seem to exist; furthermore, Emblem scans has only stranslated up to c162 so far. Does anyone have an archive of the manga?

>>42846 Nothing in the MD short feels like a fully developed scene though. Everything in it feels like abridged cuts that are full scenes on a storyboard somewhere. So I doubt there are fully animated episodes sitting on a hard drive somewhere. But it is strange that they'd drop animated material that looks very much like it would fit right in with what they had announced would be coming out in 2 months time. There's a weird time skip in the MD short and there's at least one more ss short is coming out so my guess is that they were probably way behind schedule and decided to radically simplify the original plan, dumping what they had as part of MD event and just make one fully fledged scene for each chronicle short.

Am I dumb for thinking the storytelling in this is pretty bad? I'm only a few chapters into it, but compared to other manga I've read (which is only a few, I'm not a big manga reader), the storytelling feels so stilted. I think it's mostly the paneling. It's not very fluid and things just seem to happen sometimes, like it's missing some kind of transition scene and there's barely any stage setting. Characters will vaguely reference what is happening and why. The real meat of the story and what I've enjoyed the most is Shiro's annotations in the margins, they give great insight into his inspirations and the creative decisions he's made in his worldbuilding and writing, and he even talks about things like decentralized networks, which is way ahead of its time for 1989. Still, is it one of those things that makes more sense upon a second read, or is it pretty agreed upon that the storytelling isn't the manga's strong suit?
>>56236 (OP) >Characters will vaguely reference what is happening and why. Tahat's the difference from a story which tries to be immersive and a story which acts like a videogame where you need a tutorial to start playing
