How do you deal with the existential dread that occurs after you finish an animu/mango? Anonymous 12/14/2022 (Wed) 21:28:56 No. 1549 [Reply]
Reaching the end of the story and knowing that there is nothing more to tell about the lives of the characters I had barely grown fond of creates an overwhelming emptiness that takes weeks to fade away. No more stories, no more funny or sad events, it's as if everyone died without actually dying. I hate this feeling. Is one of the reasons I don't read/watch media as much as before.
1 post omitted.
>>1550 I used a translator for that part, sorry. I mean that the stories end just when I am enjoying the characters the most.
>>1552 Oh, okay then. Sometimes ya just gotta take a few weeks and just let yourself "breathe" from it. I haven't gone through what you're going through in a long time, its tough when it happens. the last time that happened to me was 8 years ago when I first saw my favorite anime, I kept rewatching it over and over, especially the ending parts I probably rewatched it 6-8 times or something, and just wept a lot because the pain wouldn't go away, it was an extremely bittersweet anime at the ending. It took a long time to recover from that, I haven't really gone through anything on that scale since then. These days something great more just "sticks" with me if it brings me to tears, but I can look back on it fondly generally and just like "thinking" about it, writing thoughts or opinions down, or trying to see if other people felt similarly about it. I usually talk with a sibling about the anime I watch so that's also a release valve for these kinds of things for me. Though maybe I "consume" anime more these days, and more quickly, rather than experiencing it more slowly and letting it really sink in, its hard to tell. One of the ways I try to "fill the void" is to just find something else to watch/do or grab my attention, until it kinda fades I guess? Though again, its kinda like someone who eats a good meal at the buffet, and tries to find another good dish or something; probably a difference in mindset.

>>1549 >>1554 Its just something you learn to deal with, and move on. Sometimes you don't need external assistance and sometimes you do. Moving on is important, else you get stuck in thought alone. Kinda like in real life.

Non-Seasonal Anime Thread Anonymous 11/29/2022 (Tue) 02:17:27 No. 1299 [Reply]
One thing I've noticed is that other /a/ boards tend to obsess over, and concentrate all their activity in threads for the latest seasonal shows. But can we have a thread for discussing less recent anime that was popular? For example, I missed the boat on Lyrical Nanoha some years back and only wound up watching it recently. I fell in love with it, but there's nowhere to talk about it with other fans. Similarly with Darling in the Franxx, which I really wish would get a sequel with a better planned ending.

(15.77 MB 840x480 Yakitate ED2-.mp4)

I tend to miss the boat on seasonal stuff pretty frequently, which is a shame because most of the discussion happens then, and then it craters off a cliff. >>1299 I hear very mediocre things about Darling in the Franxx whenever it gets talked about, it seems like its honeymoon/FOTM period wore off and so many people hate it now; I know next to nothing about it though besides what that one chick character looks like, and the fact that Trigger made it. >>1300 I mean, good writing from slice of life/comedy anime already sounds kind of like a weird thing to be expecting. If you want things that actually "try" to be well-written, shouldn't you look for more plot and continuity-focused anime? It sounds almost like you're expecting these things to be something they are not. Its also very hard to integrate highly specific knowledge into a show without being autistic and turning off much of the audience. In terms of something like that, I've only seen Yakitate!! pull it off successfully as of late, which I really liked a lot.

I'm feeling pretty nostalgic to zero no tsukaima but thinking back on it there was a lot of things that sucked about it. I kinda wish I could for something like it but actually good. Also besides the first Macross what else is recommended in that series.
>>1301 So DITF is great if you're into character-driven stories. They nailed a unique take on tragic romance, and there were a couple scenes that nearly jerked tears out of me despite all the action and explosions. But then the last 4 episodes or so just go full Gurren Lagann out of nowhere, pulls new villains out of its ass, and feels like an ending made for a completely different show. That stunt soured a lot of people on it, and while I still love it, it took the series from a 9/10 to maybe a 5-6 real fast.

Since nips speak like weird cavemen I was wondering if subs where they are written in the order the actual words are being spoken. It's quite odd hearing words at the beginning of a sentence that are being written at the end of the sentence in the subtitle because they are depicting it how non-cavemen would structure a sentence.
Japanese is like mystic runes drawings and casting a magic spell.

Naruto. And more Naruto.
I used to read Dragonball and watched bleach and naruto like most weebs. Beyond that I also watched a lot of eechi shows like seikon no qwaser and ladies versus butlers. Good times.
Kimba the White Lion. I am not Analockman, although I understand his pain. My first Anime crush was teenage Yumi in Ulysses 31.

Dear Zoomers, If you ever call her just "Lum" again, put a gun in your mouth. Also, Ian Faggoten is proving xirself by not having any clue about the characters and dropping fake-subs that aren't anything they would ever say. It's no surprise the remake is getting a luke-warm reception, looking like, and being treated as, a anachronistic sexist romcom, which anyone who watched/read the original knows isn't true.

>>1179 >The MC in Urusei Yatsura was super bland That's primarily because the manga has the same five jokes that it just repeats constantly, with the only real change happening whenever another alien shows up. But, my views my be colored by the fact that it felt so similar to Yuu and Mii, which came out nine years later.

> they could cash in hard on the tranny craze. Faggoten would reword all the scenes where Ranma insists on his male identity because that's transphobic thoughts, guaranteed.

Want a dakimakura while working on a complete overhaul of my bedroom after getting tired of the dating-game for real. Anonymous 10/19/2022 (Wed) 09:29:44 No. 1165 [Reply]
Never bought a Dakimakura, now want to, because I feel so tired of the dating-game already. Had 2 marriages and I just stopped giving a fuck now. Want to go full retard and turn my bedroom into a embarrassing sissy-heaven. Already bought embarrassing bed-linen with funny farm-animals and hearts on it, got some pink waterproof matress-covers and rugs. Had some plushies, but they all don't have SPHs, now want to get a Dakimakura with SPH, but don't want to spent insane amounts of cash, since I already bought so much stuff for my new bedroom. Trying to get Dakimakuras or just fuckable pillows is really artificially harder than for women to get a dildo out of the deals and choices they have.
Tell us more about your marriages And post more pics

Bleach Thread. Anonymous 12/19/2021 (Sun) 02:04:35 No. 674 [Reply]
A preview trailer of what's to come for the animated adaptation of the Vandenreich arc of Bleech is soon to come out in 2022. It looks a hell of a bit better than the original anime at first glance though granted it's been nearly 10 years since the last episode aired back in 2012 during it's original run in Japan.

my JS mommy-daughter-wife, the show has left her with criminally low amount of screentime, had to install that fucking gacha and now im grinding the shit out of it upping her bond level to unlock special vn scenes with her, there's though another option to up it, that is by giving her candy in the guild house but where the fuck do i get candy, im still too shit in japanese to understand a big portion of interface and tutorial

Legend of Galactic Heroes: My conquest is the sea of stars Anonymous 11/21/2021 (Sun) 06:49:28 No. 653 [Reply]
First off God damn that's a long subtitle, as ridiculously long a title to have to begin with they managed to top even that. Seriously what a fucking mouthful. So this anime is shilled a lot, and yesterday I finally was convinced to try it out. I began with the prequel movie "My conquest is the sea of stars", and I have serious issues with the last ten minutes, and nowhere else more appropriate to air them. There's a giant fleet engagement with about a million vessels taking part, as the democratic "good guys" are getting creamed they come up with a move to win. Three guys take a ship and kick everyone else off (if these ships don't need gunners to fire the guns, engineers to oversee the powerplant, marines for boarding actions, or even crewman to man radar. Then why the hell are these ships manned at all?) Then fly up to the enemy commander, come along side and sit there. The entire warzone goes quiet. Everyone to afraid to fire a single shot, EVEN MILLIONS OF KILOMETRES AWAY, for fear the commanders vessel might be struck. The "good guys" (who were getting crushed) use this confusion to sail away in peace, leaving this single vessel with three crewman alone behind enemy lines. Then that ship leaves too. That was the summary and already I bet many can see the obvious issues with this plot. 1. Coming alongside another vessel does indeed mean you probably won't be targeted by canon fire, sure, BUT that simply means you are commiting a boarding action. Pistols and sabers time. So why doesnt the "imperialistic" "badguy" commander sound repel boarders and? Or when it's clear he isn't being boarded, BOARD THE OTHER SHIP. 2. why the fuck would you let the enemy go? 3. Why would a ship fighting off boarders (which has been a common occurence for so long as naval vessels have existed I.E. all of western history) silence not just his own side, but the other side as well? 4. In a battlespace billions of kilometres wide why would anyone else give a shit? 5. Why let the enemy suicide vessel go? Why would noone take a potshot after it left the side of the commanders ship? 6. Is the entire series this monumentally retarded? Did the author even look into naval tactics from any century? 7. Will it get better? I mean what kinda ship doesn't have marines on board? How is there no procedure for dealing with a close in enemy? Traditionally you board it, kill the crew, and then cut away boarding ropes, wait til you are out of range of it exploding, and then sink the bastard. Or you take control of the enemy vessel, crew it, and keep fighting now with another ship in your flotilla.

Speculation: Naruto killed After-Image Techniques Anonymous 06/05/2022 (Sun) 10:50:51 No. 853 [Reply]
In the classic '90s beat 'em up videogame series "Streets of Rage," the second and third entries into the series, Streets of Rage 2 and Streets of Rage 3, feature a ninja-type enemy. Whilst executing one of its frustratingly effective evasive manoeuvres, the ninja, whilst moving away and leaving behind a trail of after-images whilst doing so, can be audibly heard saying "Ninpo: Kage-bunshin no Jutsu" i.e. Ninja Art: Shadow Clone Technique. While this videogame is indeed a Japanese videogame, and it was indeed targeted at the presumably youthful male Japanese demographic, a demographic that may have also consumed manga and anime, and may have indeed been influenced by the manga and anime available at the time, it is nonetheless, a mere videogame and not a Japanese anime or manga. The illusory/genjutsu form of the shadow clone technique in Naruto, as demonstrated by Sakura, generates after-images but that disappears later on in the show as nobody uses the technique. In One Piece, the Soru technique originally generated after-images, but I believe that was only used on occasion, and even then, only at the time of its introduction. I think after-images are still seen in DBZ even as late as the Cell-Saga. IIRC, they appear in Goku's fight with Cell however, that part of DBZ was done entirely in the '90s. I cannot remember what it was but I recall seeing a different anime where a character used shadow clones and they were indeed of the Naruto-variant and not of the after-image variant but I do not recall what it was. I do recall my reaction though: "Naruto changed the Shadow-Clone technique." It may be unfounded but this is my suspicion: that after Naruto, not only did the traditional shadow-clone technique get abandoned in favour of Naruto's version, but after-images were abandoned entirely and that Naruto is responsible for this shift. I know you guys have consumed more anime than me, both 90s and 00s, so tell me, what are your thoughts on this speculation of mine?
Thinking about it, answering this speculation requires not only being an Anime Historian of sorts, but also someone who pays attention to the presence of the Ninja in Japanese culture, particularly in Otaku Media. This is perhaps too niche to be answerable and would require independent research on my own part.
>>854 I think another place to look at would be the Pokemon anime. I have very, very vague memories, but I think they kept using after-image illusions well until the season that had Treeko in it. Then again I only watched until then.
