They don't seem to know about the bad parts, but it's made pretty clear through their usage of "believers" instead of fans that it's common knowledge that powers come from trust.

Now the heroes of TBH X are much more than cartoon characters so the scale of an outrage would match their influence and school kids are quite prone of being bullies or give in to peer pressure.
