If we're going to compare wrestling promotions to consoles then it's basically an alternate version of 2001/2002 where the Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube do not exist.
WWE is the Sega Dreamcast after being the PS1 and kicking so much ass in the 90s. Bought up all the IPs and is now collapsing under its own weight since there is no competition. Sonic is John Cena, the one guy they've always relied on. Now they want a darker, edgier face. Cue Shadow/Roman Reigns. Meanwhile Knuckles/Brock Lesnar is a walking aggressive pile of meat that barely shows up.
Paige is Rouge
TNA or whatever it's called nowadays is the N64. Put up a great fight, told some amazing stories not that long ago with what they had (No Mercy/BROKEN Hardys) but basically irrelevant by that point in time, nobody wants to go there. Everyone of importance has jumped ship.
New Japan is the GBA. Great console, but it's portable and limited compared to what the "big boys" can do.
AEW looks set to be the PSP. Wants to overthrow the established status quo, but keeps fucking around with the formula before anything has been set in stone. Could jeopardize its own future if it isn't careful.
And NWA are arcade games. They still exist, have something good in store every now and then, but clearly living on borrowed time due to the old-fashioned way they conduct their business.
Meanwhile MMA/UFC and the like are the ever-increasing collector card games that dominated the turn of the millennium. Different playing style, some recognizable faces cross over every now and then, but it is making itself far more accessible to the masses than its opposition is.
This hurt to type out, especially the sonic character autism
