>>16687 Hell yeah. Also since today is the blue bastard's birthday, I have some questions for ya: >What's your favorite Sonic memory? >Favorite Sonic game? >Favorite Sonic character? >Favorite other piece of Sonic media you've followed (whether it's comics, anime, OVA or cartoon)? >Hopes for the series going forward? Personally speaking, my choices would be: >The entirety 25th anniversary stream, especially the unveiling of Sonic Mania >Sonic 3 & Knuckles >Dr. Eggman >Post-reboot Archie Sonic, although the pre-reboot is something I'm still fond of >Biggest hope for me going forward would be that whatever the next Modern Sonic game doesn't include Classic. I know it's gonna be a big title given that it'll come out for the 30th anniversary, but using Classic lead to nothing but diminishing returns for Forces & if we're getting a Mania sequel (Which we should), the next title should focus all on Modern Sonic.

All of Archie, even the bad parts >Hopes for the series going forward? IDW getting better
>>16693 What does this have to do with Sonic the Hedgehog?
>>16698 >even the bad parts Not gonna lie, I can't say there wasn't some entertainment to some of the more trainwreck moments/stories of Archie Sonic. Kinda makes me wanna marathon the series on here, but I dunno about it.

It's a tie between 3&K and Generations. >Favorite Sonic character? Sonic! >Favorite other piece of Sonic media you've followed (whether it's comics, anime, OVA or cartoon)? Sonic X >Hopes for the series going forward? I hope it gets its shit together. At this point I don't have a specific wish, just that everything gets better, specially the Modern games because I feel that's currently the thing most adrift. Oh, I would also love a proper cartoon or anime again. I wish we could get some nice character interactions going again.

Sonic Boom is neat too. >Hopes Zero expectations gameplay wise, I don't want to set myself up for disappointment. I have a little newbie question to ask as I just recently got into Sonic related media. Is it a good idea to start with the IDW Comic series or should I start with Archie instead? I thought about reading some of the comics marked as "worth reading" in the last pic of post >>16251 (old /sthg/ thread) but there is not much motivation to do so. Appreciate your (hopefully helpful) replies!
>>16740 The two story wise have nothing to do with each other, so you could go with either or really. It's like saying the same for Fleetway Sonic the Comic, it's its own thing so you can get the full experiences without the need of other medias like Archie. So pick your preference and have fun!
>>16740 Like the other anon said, each comic is its own different thing so you can start with whichever you'd like. IDW is more action oriented while Archie had a lot more backstory and character development but it's also extremely long. You could start with the one you think you'd like the most and switch if you get bored, too. >I just recently got into Sonic related media. Enjoy the ride anon.
https://twitter.com/SEGAmastergirl/status/1142911560165351426?s=20 This is freaky, hearing Jason Sonic again but it's a fan mock up of him.
>>16741 >>16742 Thank you, I have chosen to begun reading IDW >Have fun and enjoy the ride I will, thanks again
>>16745 Np anon! Here's a thread with the IDW comic story timed here if you want. >>10011
>>16743 >SOAP shoes Huh, really cool! I hope he posts more details and content if possible!

>>16745 Let us know what you think when you start reading them.
>>16749 Yeah, it does look pretty fucking good.
>>16749 I wouldn't say it's completely Unleashed-tier, but it definitely looks really good.
So apparently, an artist showed off this concept art for a pitch of the GBA port of the Sonic Extreme pitch way back in 2002.

What's the last Sonic game you've played and how long ago was it?
>>16757 Damn. Not too surprised as the CTR remake had a lot more marketing/hype behind it, but this makes me wonder just how much TSR sold.
>>16749 The art styles are just too different to be able to make a comparison like that, but it does look very sharp and clean. I had a pic somewhere where someone had replaced the original textures of either Lost World or Forces with those of Generations and that made a much bigger difference.
(16.20 KB 480x358 1561305919712.jpg)

>>16687 fug, lost on first night.
>>16757 Oh well. Can't win them all. Hope they do something else next time that actually panders to the fans since I guess that works unless it has Green Hill in it. I just hope for Crashes sake they make a new game that's actually worth a damn if he's going to be relevant (in a good way) again. Same for Spyro.

(88.35 KB 500x307 1512246784365.png)

>>16769 A sequel would be cool, but I'd hope they design it a bit better because as soon as you discover that the key to wining any battle easily is to spam your powers Battle becomes kind of lame, specially because there are battles which are almost impossible to beat otherwise, the AI predicts everything and just kicks your ass.

>>16774 I hope Archie Sonic Online gives some more of her.
>>16771 Yeah. I didn't mind the idea, but I wish there was a bit more balance in fights, since a lot of them usually comes down to "who can beat the shit out of their opponents with specials first" or "how long can you survive before the AI stomps you out?" Something that could allow a bit more variety in fights would be nice, I suppose.

Though, my copy of the game is 8GBs big so I'll probably need to finish uploading it tomorrow. Just gave it a test to make sure everything still worked. >>16844 >This really illustrates why they compared the new Panzer Dragoon remakes' visuals to Sonic fangames, especially with the ruins level around the middle of the video. The problem is these people aren't artists. They don't have the inept take to see what makes visuals work and don't work. One thing the guy in the video said was "is there' just too much to see on screen"? Yes. Looking at BotW shows just because you see that mountain in the background, doesn't mean your eye is going to see all the other little things in front of it because they aren't in your face and notiable even from far away. Fan games like proper scope I think. I see too much that doesn't really make things feel far away, because there's no field of depth or fog of war that fades out the background and makes things closer stand out more.

What exactly does one need to do to be a "good" Sonic fan these days? I see so many people arguing with each other over every little detail or talking about how much they dislike all the new games and comics, to someone new it feels like a very hostile fandom, but sitting back and trying to enjoy the games, comics, shows, etc by myself feels lame. How do I be a part of this community without painting a target on myself?
(614.50 KB 500x384 1507991777443.gif)

>>16883 Real answer, wait about 10 years for social to kill itself off and start over. It's not Sonic, it's everyone in it that's the problem. Humanity is cancer objectively now then it was before the 21st century began. >, to someone new Welcome. The only thing I can say is look up games that has multipler content or other fan made content, like the stuff made for SAGE of last year. Robo Blast 2 has a Kart mod many people played (likely over TSR) that you could enjoy if you like kart racers.
>>16883 When it comes to the Sonic fandom, I've long since stopped caring about what it means to be a "good" fan & just learned to like what you like. Sonic has such a wide range of content, that you're always gonna find someone who is gonna be hostile about something. At the end of the day, just like what you like & don't be afraid to critique what you didn't enjoy as much. As for being a part of this community, just share the love. tbh. Welcome to the fandom, btw.
I've poked around a few boards, mostly here and halfchan, I hear a lot of specific names get mentions and people get talked about. Are their any particular "big name" fans I need to be aware of? Any trouble starters to avoid?
>>16877 No problem, thank you too for the pic! It will be put to good use. Regarding the Unleashed Project mod, I was under the impression that it was kind of difficult to get nowadays but the page for it still has valid downloads, so I think I won't upload it unless someone here still wants me to for some reason. Here's their page: https://www.moddb.com/mods/sonic-generations-unleashed-project
>>16886 I honesty have trouble thinking of any particular "trouble starters" outside of the Sonic Gather Battle fangame & the dude who made it. Most of the fandom's infamous folks don't really do anything noticeable these days. As for people I think you should check out, I'd recommend the guys doing the Sonic Islands fangame, Lange who's working on the Sonic Utopia fangame & the Sonic Mania team. Beyond that, everyone else is really subjective, tbh.
(284.39 KB 320x240 output.gif)

>>16883 >What exactly does one need to do to be a "good" Sonic fan these days? Probably just having self awareness is enough. I'm tired of seeing people with no self awareness incessantly do dumb things and then create a ton of drama because they get on people's nerves and then they get backlash, which they supposedly don't understand. But overall it's a moot point, people are going to call the fandom awful and ignore all its good qualities anyway because it's the meme. >I see so many people arguing with each other over every little detail or talking about how much they dislike all the new games and comics You have to understand all the things the fandom has been through. While sometimes things get a bit exaggerated, people have been burned and teased once too many times, so they got bitter. There's a reason the Sonic Cycle became so renowned. >How do I be a part of this community without painting a target on myself? If you're asking about here specifically then you know the first rule of imageboards (lurk more). Just post tasteful comments and images and as long as you understand the dos and don'ts of imageboards you should be golden.
>>16890 >Probably just having self awareness is enough. I'm tired of seeing people with no self awareness incessantly do dumb things and then create a ton of drama because they get on people's nerves and then they get backlash, which they supposedly don't understand. This sounds pretty specific

>>16911 Yeah I can understand that. After hearing the same happens to merchandise like plushies or animation studios with old cels would have, when a company goes out of business or many years just go by that they can't store these things anymore, some just burn/dismantle this stuff and it's lost forever. Many fans would kill to have bought it off of the companies hands if they could.

>>16963 If you're retarded, you're not the only one. I spent a good few minutes looking at it thinking "who the fuck is this, some artist's OC?" before I realized anon meant bump in more than one way. She barely resembles Bump.
Famitsu interview about the Tokyo Olympics mobile game: https://www.famitsu.com/news/201906/27178624.html https://translate.google.com/translate?sl=ja&tl=en&u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.famitsu.com%2Fnews%2F201906%2F27178624.html It seems they want to focus on speed for gameplay, they want to put as many Sonic characters as they can into it and you'll unlock them gradually as you progress through the game, and the story will be focused on recapturing an area of Tokyo from Eggman. It seems you can try the game for free but you'll have to pay to go past a certain point.
>>16963 >>16964 Looking at the pic some more, I can understand how it can not look like Bump, but imo a lot of that comes down to the Goth theme changing up the hair, inclusion of makeup, etc. I do still see Bump in the picture, but that could also just be me. >>16965 Pretty cool, but has the M&S game even confirmed its full roster yet?
>>16966 I really don't see any resemblance to Bump, besides species, and even that is thrown into question with things like the black ear tips. Basically every single defining physical characteristic of Bump, aside from her honkers, was changed in an effort to make her goth. Her design could have been gothed up without sacrificing so many of her attributes. I mean, she doesn't even have "Bump" emblazoned anywhere on her. You could have told me that's just some goth deer OC, and I would have entirely believed it.
(61.83 KB 1674x938 mobile.jpg)

>>16966 I don't know, but I think this is a completely separate game, it doesn't even have Mario in the name.
>>16967 >she doesn't even have "Bump" emblazoned anywhere on her. To be fair, that detail (& honestly, some of the other stuff you may see in Bump art) does usually change depending on whoever draws her. Like with Sage, people tend to give their versions of the girls certain differences, like giving her spots on her back, including or not including the name on her clothes, having two or three toes, giving her colored ear tips, etc. That being said, I do see where you're coming from in that making the tips black in particular does kinda throw things off in that it's usually a feature more associated with Lynxes. I understand why it was done, but it does give a little Nicole vibe to that Bump. >>16968 I could be completely wrong about this, but I think they tend to just use Sonic for the mobile versions of the M&S games.
>>16966 There has to be better ways to change characters to fit some theme than to redesign them so much that it's hard to tell whether it's the original character or not. In any case, post Bump. >>16969 >not including the name on her clothes I have to admit that it peeves me a little when people don't do it. But in cases like these where it's difficult to follow what you were trying to do, you'd think you'd include a simple detail like that which would be a big help. >I think they tend to just use Sonic for the mobile versions of the M&S games. Huh, I didn't know there were Sonic Olympics mobile games already. Seems like there were 2 of them but they are very obscure. One was an iOS game that lasted very little before being removed from the app store and the other one seems to be a java phone game or something from 2008. It was apparently part of a service that doesn't even have a webpage anymore, the domain expired, wasn't renewed, and got taken over by one of those domain scalper companies.
>>16970 I'll admit I only somewhat vaguely remember reading about one Sonic Olympic mobile game from 2008, the others was just a guess. Kinda surprised there exists not one, but two Sonic java phone games however. >post Bump. No prob
>>16970 >better way to fit a theme than redesign them so much they barely resemble the original character There is, but I'm going to cut the artist some slack since Sonic characters can look different easily by changing some things, especially changing the colors
>>16972 I always liked that casket Amy pic, but I've always been curious what's happening there. Is she possessed, or dead?
>>16973 It's never been clear to me so I guess it's up to the viewer's imagination
>>16976 >DBFZ Have any Sonic games used cel-shading?
>>16977 The only one I can think of is Sonic Shuffle.
>>16978 Yeah, and it's a damn shame it was the only one. It can look so cool if done well.
>>16979 Honestly, cel-shading is something I'm surprised the series hasn't attempted more often, especially given how experimental Sonic can be sometimes. Hell now that I think about it, it's kinda surprising the series hasn't tried another party game. I mean yeah, I'm all for SEGA focusing on their main titles, but it's still something I'd figure they would give another go.
>>16980 Ehh I don't know, party games are such a niche thing nowadays that I don't think they're worth investing money on.
>>16980 Unfortunately, we only get racing spinoffs or mobile games >>16981 I would commit horrible crimes for a proper Mario Party 1, 2, or 3 clone
>>16981 The fact Mario Party 9 and 10 was a flop I can see why the party genre has slowed down as of late from campanies I think the Olmpyic games kinda handle the mini game part of Sonic so that's why SEGA doesn't do something else. The most surprising thing I guess is no fighting styled game, but then again, they have Smash. I think the series being so open with Sonic being mixed into other IPs, keeps SEGA from having to make one themselves. Which is actually smart since they suck dick doing anything else with Sonic right now so its for the better I guess.

>>17010 Not gonna lie, I thought I had sent my post through earlier, but I didn't know the captcha needed to be solved for about an hour or two before I finally did it. Like, would you prefer a Sonic the Fighters 2, a Sonic Battle 2, or something entirely different?

I hate when that happens so much. >>17012 >is there any particular style you'd like to see a new Sonic fighting game in? Having played Battle recently, something like that would be just awesome. I would be tempted to ask for something a bit more ambitious in some aspects, like a more balanced fighting gameplay, or a bigger story with maybe different paths you could take, or perhaps some animations thrown in the mix, but the only thing I'd end up getting is even worse gacha mechanics. Overall I enjoyed Battle a lot, I loved all the elements it mixed and it had a good amount if detail into it.

>>17100 I might not like the BE all that much when I tried it myself before, but if there's one thing I'm digging from this is the fluidity of the momentum here. This is what SEGA needs to understand about Sonic. It's not about what fans are doing BETTER, it's what fans learned from when Sonic Team did RIGHT. They did this in the past, they can do it again. You don't need to heavily script the game to emulate the past, just do it naturally and do it right the first time.
>>17104 Yeah, It's a shame they're stuck doing lost world romhacks. If this fangame keeps elaborating on the momentum based gameplay and adds project hero's animations, it could be the best thing ever.

So I played the GT fan game and I enjoyed it more than I expected. I still have some issues with it but compared to the debut of the BE it's vastly improved. I remember the days of halfchan's /sthg/ and when the dev released the BE to the world. How it didn't even have rail grinding in it. I'm very happy people were able to add them to the game just like in SA2, with physics and it felts perfect. Same with how absolutely buttery smooth the light speed dash is in this game, there's no other game that nails it this fluid to me imo. It honestly makes me want to give the BE another try again, if it's based on the one in this fangame. I don't know if it's been updated to the public or not and these fangames have these changes exclusive to the fan games but if I can have the build of GT to mess with I'd make something myself if given the time to do so.
>>17129 Well, gold luck if you ever decide to play around with it! And remember that we've got our own little fangame thread laying silent on the catalog.

I think I remember some people talking about some kind of tutorial mascot or something like that, did he leave the Bump tutorial signs in? It's uncanny how something that was created so closely to /sthg/ kind of blew up like that. Was the BE released under some kind of license like the Apache license or the GPL? Some of them require modifications of the original software to be freely available and released under the same license or a compatible one, so if what you want is not available you might want to check that and see if you can make a request.

>>17145 Such is the fate of all sanic ships. It's for the best.
>>17146 I’m pretty sure the Sonic Franchise works a bit like Rick & Morty. There’s an infinite number of parallel dimensions, and as long as Sonic and Eggman exist in one of them, it is considered canon. The introverted kid that I was used to wish for a conclusion to every known Sonic that ever existed by pitting Thousands of Eggmans against Thousands of Sonics in an attempt to destroy “the-source-dimension-branch-of-all-reality” cliche. Title would’ve been “The Day the Running Stopped” or “Sonic: Finish Line” or something along those lines… I’m just putting that out there because I’m still not artificially autistic enough to start writing fanfics.
>>17147 The only Sonic media that need a conclusion are SatAM and Underground. Everything else either ended on a good note or isn't the kind of continuity that has anything to really end on.
>>17147 It's pretty sad, but Rick & Morty has a more coherent canon than Sonic even when it's an everything goes kind of show about fucking with timelines and dimensions. It's only until you take things into your own hands do you end up finding out things you never knew yourself. How Amy had not only a more Sonic esque nose like her classic version had, but the more hedgehog mussel like in the Sonic Mania shorts she used to have, verse the more flatten out face the cast has today. Do you guys prefer the new looks? Or prefer how it looked when Sonic first took his modern step into 3D?
>>17152 I think there's a certain charm to the adventure designs. Some characters improved over the switch to modern renders, such as Knuckles and Rouge, but I think Sonic could use some of that early-2000's vibe back.
>>17152 I feel very strongly about the current designs. I've seen some renders which are really stunning. But personally I find it difficult to compare the old designs with the current ones given the technological differences between the eras, it's difficult to just think about the designs without thinking about the infamous Adventure animations or blocky models or pixelated textures.
>>17151 Archie Sonic Online is releasing a conclusion/continuation to Underground as well in the form of the 50th issue of Sonic Universe (Online).
>>17152 I really loved the designs in Adventure, but I will say that imo, the Modern designs peaked with Sonic Unleashed. Something about the proportions for each character & the way they were animated in the CGI cutscenes just felt so "right" to me, if that makes any sense. >>17155 Really? Sweet
>>17154 The technical differences between 1998 & now kinda makes me wonder what it would be like if Sonic Adventure 1 got a remake, with updated designs. Not saying I want it mostly because I don't really trust SEGA to pull it off, but I wonder how these old designs would look like if it was updated for more modern times.
>>17157 I've seen a few fan remakes of the old models. They were great from a technical standpoint but I wasn't very impressed with how they looked.

>>17167 Actually that's really want I wanted to do, and didn't understand why they wanted to change the actual look of the characters. The outfits is the thing I really feel are ill fit for the Sonic cast and feel far too in line of "background OC" while Tangle gets all the front row seats.
>>17168 Did anything come out of your attempt? >Tangle gets all the front row seats. Tangle's outfit is not very good either in my opinion. Only reason she (and Whisper) get any front row seats is because of how much IDW pushes them, which is because they don't really have anything else to push. It never felt justified to me really.
>>17169 I didn't like my attemp I did months ago so I dropped it. I may pick it up again thanks to /sthg/ making me think about it agai.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Xija4Z_CC0 >>17179 Yeah, I like a lot how it is coming along. Radical Highway still needs some improvement but it's overall a fun new stage to blast through. I kinda got too much into it and landed a world record on Hill Top, kek.
>>17180 >>17179 As a anon that still see posts about "not caring about fan games because it's just a tech demo" on halfchan's /v/ and the like, would you say the game's level design is "Sonic" enough for ya'll? And also, what is your consensus on the momentum based gameplay, is it better to go fast with it or is boosting more satisfying?
(340.87 KB 400x300 56-Dying.gif)

>>17181 I'd say right now it's hitting some of the notes on what I want out of 3D Sonic games, but it's still got a ways to go before completely hitting the mark, imo. As for the other question, I'm kinda split on ithttps://boards.420chan.org/wooo/: On one hand, I love the satisfying feeling boost can give like in Unleashed, but on the other hand some of the fangames that's focused on momentum building like GT, Utopia & Islands is mighty addicting to just pick up & roll around in.
>>17182 >that link God damn it, keyboard
>>17181 This first level is "Sonic" enough: Has fast paced platforming and different paths with multiple ways to find the fastest road to the goal. I really liked the idea of a race against tails who's flying on the tornado. Regarding the boost or momentum, I personally enjoy this kind more since there's more freedom as to how you cruise through the stage, while boost is way more linear. I also feel like it's the better 3D adaptation of the 2D gameplay.
>>17184 One thing I will say on the subject of momentum-based vs. Boost: Level design issues aside, I loved the method Sonic Advance 2 had where you start boosting through the stage if you build up enough speed. Feels like a nice mixture of the two gameplay styles, even if SAdv2 had its problems.
>>17185 Yeah, I feel like that's how it should be, since it is also a way to reward precise platforming with even more speed.
(216.01 KB 356x318 1478435160181.png)

(74.11 KB 500x386 1415547034433.png)

>>17185 Advance 2 had what I call Sonic 2 Syndrome, where you're encouraged to go fast with features like that, but the levels are designed in a way such that it always plays against you. I find that really frustrating and ultimately I found it best to just always take it slow even if the stage encouraged me to go fast (as lame as it sounds). I know some people say that you're supposed to earn the speed by knowing how to play the map, which implies replaying it several times to memorize it, but I don't find that reason enough to go back and replay it so many times. Sonic 3 did it much better, I never had a problem like the one I described but I replayed it much more than any other Sonic game because it was interesting and satisfying to play it in the first place, and that hooked me up. One thing I really liked about Advance 2 is how it was very evident which route you were on and the paths to the upper routes and how many opportunities there were to escalate to an upper one (even though they also made it very easy to fall to a lower one). They fucked around a lot with endless pits but if you were on a moderately high route you stood a better chance of just falling to a lower route (on which you could escalate back up to an upper one), whereas if you were on a lower one you were mostly boned. It made things a bit more bearable.
(19.13 KB 185x139 1510547489660.jpg)

>>17188 Personally that "replay value" is really outdated based on how games were approached back then, and I'm a 90s gamer. Back then, trial and error was the way to p(l)ay, because that's how you kept playing further in Arcade games like Pac-Man or Contra, but that's not how the modern market of gaming works anymore. Sonic, to me, is outdated, coming from a classic Sonic era fan. There's lots of things in Sonic to this day that really have no place in the modern world of gaming, but that doesn't mean Sonic cannot adapt more properly to the modern world of game design. Speed, to me, works so great in Unleashed, because the levels are big enough to compensate it. But the issue is that they play it safe and arcady by making it linear to control how the player play the game. Much like Sonic 2 or Sonic Advance 2. They control how the player play with the fast speed, instead of letting the player do what THEY want to do with the speed. Which is what I think makes S3K more fun, the levels aren't hold right to win, it feels like you're traveling through a maze. In 3D, it's called open space. And the best Sonic games for me allow me to play outside the box, outside the "beginners path". And this is what made Sonic GT actually interesting. It still has levels that is "get to the goal following the general main path" that I'm not as big of a fan of (the best level is actually the hand made ones instead of the ported SA2 levels) but having the momentum gameplay makes me explore more on default which honestly keeps me from wanted to just "get to the goal" as much because I find stuff that I thought was neat to find. (Which are outlets that I want the dev to actually put nice secrets in like power ups and whatnot, which a lot of them lacked disappointingly).
>>17189 Sorry for the wall of text, I thought I paragraphed it right, must have mistyped.

Morning, /sthg/. Here's the recent Sonic Q&A from the latest Bumblekast: >Q:Why are the Zombots’ clothing turning metal, too? Where do the Tangle and Whisper stories and Annual 2019 stories fit into the timeline? Which issues do they take place between? Once the metal virus takes hold it encapsulates the victim, top to bottom. Ian can't speak for the other stories since he had no oversight on those but he believes they can neatly sit between issues 12 and 13. The Tangle and Whisper story takes after issue 16 right before the virus epidemic starts. >Q:my question is, will we be seeing more of Cream in the Metal Virus arc in some way and in the future of the comic besides seeing her map drawing updated every issue, which is really adorable by the way :) I ask this as in recent years, Cream has been reduced to a minor character in the games to the point of only showing up in mobile games where plots aren’t needed. Will Cream be handled as such in the IDW series as SEGA are more involved with this comic compared to the Archie series, or will we perhaps see more of her in the future having a bigger role like the rest of Sonic’s friends? Considering the size of Sonic’s cast, I know it’s hard to get in everyone and I always appreciate what we can get. The map will be updated. Ian didn't know they were doing it but he loved it. Cream will be showing up more during the Metal Virus saga and be fairly prominent. Beyond that Ian can't say cause he's focused on wrapping up on the arc. He can't predict what he or another writer will do in the future >Q:You mentioned that A reason why you're not discussing any future plans you had for the reboot era of archie was because there was the possibility of you using some of those scrapped plans for IDW, and thus talking about them would technically constitute as IDW spoilers. And that makes perfect sense. Now my question is, whenever you do end up incorporating scrapped reboot plans in IDW, do you plan on mentioning after the fact "Oh yeah and this story event that happened had it's origins in scrapped reboot plans"? Has there been anything in IDW already that was recycled from scrapped archie plans? The Metal Virus saga was going to be post-300 Archie reboot material. When characters were talking about Eggman getting roboticization working again, this was how he was going to do it. The concept was on the table for a long time, like an editor before (Sounds like Kaminski before he left). This editor told Ian he wanted to do a zombie story. When Ian asked him why the editor said zombies were hot, pointing to popular franchises like The Walking Dead. When Ian came up with a story he liked it was shelved because Afterlife with Archie was coming out and they didn't want too much zombie material at the same time. Ian tried to bring it back multiple times but it was delayed for other events and reasons. Then the book died. IDW started he wanted to do something familiar and more rooted in traditional Sonic fare. For Year Two Ian proposed reworking the metal virus. And all of it got approved. Had the story gone through Archie it would have been wildly different, but Ian hadn't come up with story details yet so they don't exist beyond the concept of metal goo.
>>17193 Aside: When Ian submitted the script for the issue where Rough and Tumble got infected and Amy mangles Rough, the editor told him that was a bit too much to which Ian agreed. When Ian saw the final art though he discovered they went with it anyway. Ian was happy he saw that before the arc coming up because we'll have Omega vs zombots and you can imagine how that'll go. >Q:I noticed that in IDW Sonic Issue #11, after Blaze has dropped her Burning form, she says she can't transform again because the Sol Emeralds' power has diminished. Later in Issue #12, she plans to use the Sol Emeralds to return home. Do the Sol Emeralds not scatter after use Dragonball-Style like the Chaos Emeralds do, or is that plot element being done away with entirely? The Sol Emeralds don't seem to scatter the way the Chaos Emeralds do and are more reliable. One could argue that Blaze could have powered down in a way to retain them to return home or that that they react differently on Sonic's world. Point is, Sega did not give him a note on it so he's fine with it. Kyle thinks it makes since since the Chaos emeralds have are suppose to be chaotic. >Q:I heard on TVTropes the IDW Sonic comic can't use the word "Mobius" anymore. Is that just for the planet's name, or all uses? If it's the latter, what would happen if the story 100% required Sonic and friends go to Sonic Riders Zero Gravity's "Mobius Strip" location? Mobius strip is a real thing and can still be used. They do not have access to old cartoon material and that material had the planet called Mobius, people mobians, money mobiums, creatures mobinis, and etc. The IDW Sonic book is much, much closer to the game canon so Sonic's world is Sonic's World and the living beings on it are animals, as far as Ian knows. Ian doesn't think Blaze's world or even the Human World have a name either. Reminder that you can send questions to Ian by email, Twitter, on the YouTube video, or get priority on their Patreon
>>17194 >Sonic's world is Sonic's World Still never going to get over this. Name the damn planet they live on already

>>17189 >because that's how you kept playing further I know what you mean, Sonic 1 and 2 had a lot of trial and error to get maps right (specially 2, fuck Metropolis and its boss) although 3 kind of ditched that with the save feature. Still, I understood that that's how the game was meant to be played and didn't have a lot of problem with that, it was satisfying being able to go deeper into the game with each run and if I grew tired of having to replay it, I could always abuse savestates N-not that I ever did!. But on the other hand being able to go a bit faster doesn't justify having to replay the map a lot.

>>17220 I don't get it, they're the most senior staff of the project and they're washing their hands of the responsibility of the first redesign? I think they're full of shit. In light of this I think they're going to delay this until they can't anymore just like with the trailer.

>>17220 I'm not looking forward to it but I saw this in that thread and I felt this was the best the design was going to get based on the technical limitations they have to work with with the footage they already have done. It nearly covers all the problems I had with the face previously, the only thing I think would help is if they readd that patch of fur between the eyes to emulate the mono eye like in the concept arts but was missing in the final reveal.
>>17223 Oh, and make his nose smaller. That's really all I would ask to be adjusted as well at this point.
>>17222 >The Lion King There is 0 non-critic praise for that movie.

>>17241 I don't think we're quite there yet, and even if we were it'd be rather unfeasible. Ponyfags have it better, but even then the really good craftsmen have year-long wait lists. I don't think I've ever seen Sonic fan merchandise that you could confuse for official merch. The other day I think I saw a Sonic plush sell for 2 grand, so I don't know why the crafting side of the fanbase never grew like with MLP, specially given how old the fanbase is. The money seems to be there.
