Make Up A Zone Theme Anonymous 07/12/2018 (Thu) 11:38:27 No. 2438
So with Green Hill now becoming the defacto first stage for Sonic games, this gets me thinking maybe Sonic Team literally has no ideas for new zones anymore. Do you have any original zone themes that you've come up with that you think would be dope in a Sonic game? We've yet to see a disco zone, I think that could be cool if handled right.
Disco sounds like it could be made to fit into Sonic pretty well. Has Sonic ever had a "rats" type of zone so far? You know, those maps where it's like you're very small compared to normal objects so they can become obstacles and part of the map instead of just props.
>>2447 We did have something like that in Mania's Metallic Madness, but I'd be interested in it being done again and in a different way
I wonder: Has there ever been a stage inside an exploding base? Let's say Sonic beats Eggman in a bossfight & Eggy's base begins falling apart, I'd like to see a stage where Sonic tries to escape as it begins falling apart.
>>2450 >Sonic 2 ending but playable not what you said verbatim, but this wouldn't be bad at all
>>2450 It's not exactly the same but we've had sections where you had to escape before your "time" ran out and you died, like in Marble Garden.

Hear me out: Act 1 is a snowy mountain range or something. But it's snowy. Act 2 is like inside one of the mountains where we pull a fast one and there's magma and lava and shit. I don't have anything else for this idea but i think it's close.

>>2455 Well that's a cute fucking picture.
reposting ideas from /sthg/: soda factory weather station abandoned hockey arena underground subway station
>>2458 I have no idea how a soda factory or a weather station even look like. The latter sounds a bit too small for speedy rodents though.
>>2455 Cute pic Also that's a pretty solid idea. I would love it if they did that sorta thing.
(48.23 KB 894x894 95a.jpg)

>>2459 probably just a regular factory with shades of color matching coke. you can go extra crazy and get cola waterfalls and stuff, too. a soda factory would be POPping
>>2466 You cheeky fuck.
>>2466 >go extra crazy and get cola waterfalls and stuff Yeah, that's what I had in mind too. Crazy stuff like that can go very well with Sonic.
Greenhill is default because the fanbase is almost entirely autists wanting nostalgia. Every time they try something new people throw a shit fit how it's the worst game ever so they say fuck it give them nostalgia bait and be done. The bright sunny grass based zone works well as an intro. It gives a good contrast as the gae becomes more mechanical as you get closed to Robotniks ultimate fortress made of entirely metal. New grass zones would be easy to implement. Do something with a forest theme where you're running across bridges and tree houses in the top path and following a trail on the bottom.
>>2888 I really hate how this franchise constantly tries to "go back to its roots," but just lazily slapping old stages like Green Hill & Chemical Plant everywhere. I fucking loved Mania Plus & all, but the best parts about it was the new things it brought to the table, whether it was new stages (Press Garden, Mirage Saloon), or new mechanics like the Drop Dash. And yeah, I'd like to see something fresh for the intro levels these days. Even if beach-themed or forest-themed levels have been done before, there's ways you can mix it up & make it new again. Your idea for example would be pretty cool to see.

>>2888 >Every time they try something new people throw a shit fit how it's the worst game ever so they say fuck it give them nostalgia bait and be done Nigger what? Most of their attempts at something new outright suck and even most of their attempts at nostalgia baiting suck as well. The issue is not that people only like nostalgia content and hate new things, it's that Sega is just outright incapable of producing quality content, which is what people like. >Do something with a forest theme where you're running across bridges and tree houses in the top path and following a trail on the bottom That sounds fucking gorgeous. Fund it.

>>2438 A gargantuan construction area, big titanic cranes, bulldozers and whatnot, piles of sand and debris. Make it over the top a la Speed Highway. Sonic having to jump on and use construction machinery such as cranes as platforms to traverse the zone/act.
>>2980 That's a great idea. I can't believe it hasn't been done before. I'd want to see not just a construction area, but the insides of a partially constructed shopping mall, and maybe making it so that the higher you got the least finished the floors were until it gets more challenging near the top where it's just the structure of the building. Maybe it could be different acts: outside, inside, and top. Running in a mall sounds insteresting in general because of the huge open areas with different paths and the different stuff that could be in the stores to add eye candy and maybe to use for gameplay.
>>2980 >>2983 >Construction themed level >Mall themed level Fund it
When I was a kid I came up with my own Sonic ripoff called Blaster The Bunny, anyway I can't remember most of my level ideas, but one was "Quartz Lake", basically a landscape made of quartz with a bunch of small, clear bodies of water. I think something similar was done in one of the MS games, though. What about a level themed after purple crystals and dark blue water? The RTS game Total Anniahlation (or one of it's mission packs) had levels like that, they were beautiful. Or what about a "Martian" or " gas giant" level? Has sonic ever been into space (not just orbit)? Instead of zones which nominally have to be on the same planet, just take him to different planets, they would even have different gravity and wind strengths. Also if you were making a new nostalgiafag 2D game, have one level be fully pinball as a tribute to Sonic Spinball (also his super spin dash sound effect in that game was great, shame you rarely got to do it).

Came up with this idea at work, where Tails and sonic are split off somehow, so Tails has to venture by himself. He encounters his old enemies Carrotia & Witch cart who transform the land around tails into a giant floating carrot with spins, spirals, and twists.
>>21067 Sounds somewhat similar to what Lost World did. The level layout wasn't as complex as that but it was still floating tubes. I thought the first image was something really gross from the thumbnail
Soda factory for the win!!! Badass Playground Tree fortress Hot wheels track Skatepark Water park / amusement park Sewer (comix zone) Space station Dimensional Volcano Mineshaft (done proper, with deep layers and different sediments) 2D skateboarding - needs to happen
>>21502 >Skatepark YES! That is an awesome idea & I am so disappointed no ones really played with this idea before.
Brap fetish zone. All video games need a sewer level sooner or later. Later you can always say "this zone is terrible, but at least it's not the Brap Zone". Sonic all sloshing around slowly in a lake of turds, maybe slipping and sliding down sewage waterfalls. There could be a brap factory second half, where thicc girls are force-fed and then pumped dry of farts (which are jarred up and loaded into trucks and delivered to Eggman or whatever) but it's always weird imo to have sonic combined with humans so I'd leave that part out.

>>21503 I did post an idea for "What would Sonic's Deck look like?" a while ago, but I don't think many people have that kind of interest (even if it fits). I think it started when they found that crappy Tony Hawk clone in that XBOX SDK, but not much else. The closest you'll probably get are a few THUG PRO mods in The Vault: https://thpsx.com/thevault/ https://thpsx.com/creation-details/?obj=643 https://thpsx.com/creation-details/?obj=829 https://thpsx.com/creation-details/?obj=658
>>2438 Soapy salon zone, a giant girly salon with giant hair dryers and other salon related stuff as stage gimmicks
I have a few ideas: >Japan, not Tokyo, but something with traditonal Japanese aesthetics >Alpine valley, imagine starting at a glacier and things slowly getting warmer, greener and more populated as you go downhill, would work best in a 3D Adventure style game >Open Pit Mine, Sonic's supposed to have themes of man vs. nature, so why not have a zone based on one of the most destructive things man can do to nature? >Nuclear plant, same logic as above >Marsh, Swamp or Estuary, we've seen the coastline as beautiful beaches and cliffs, why not show an uglier part of it >Null Space (or something like it) as something you can actually play in instead of a QTE >Hot Springs/geysers, technically in Chaos Island in Frontiers, but I'd like to see it in a Sonic Aesthetic. >Something whimsical, like a Zone made of Candy. Dimps did it in the Advance games with Music Plant and Toy Kingdom, why can't Sonic Team? >Zone made of meat or something equally disturbing
>>22032 what if the girls are blobians instead, would that fix it?
>>29099 >like a Zone made of Candy >why can't Sonic Team? Sweet Mountain and Dessert Ruins
>>29388 Those were so bland and unremarkable that I forgot they even existed.
I wonder how come we don't have like another City like Zone or a zone located in a volcano? A skateboarding zone would be awesome, especially if there was like a sports zone
>>29414 Sweet Mountain is cool...
(29.96 KB 612x275 Mine_cave.jpg)

(370.55 KB 1200x628 Rock-candy.jpg)

Rock-candy Mine Zone A mining cave level with multicolored gems like Chaos Emerald BUT they're actually candy.
>>2450 the sonic boom rom hack has that
>>29099 Mystery Flesh Pit National Park Zone: Act 7
>>2438 <concrete jungle literally just speed highway + green forest <casino dam a casino with some water park elements located in the middle of an ocean, surrounded by dams
>>29099 I had a few similar ideas to that as well plus. >Shibuya until SxSG did it. I would have included the train station as well. >Empty Stronghold Abandoned G.U.N. Base, underground experiments and what not. Kind of like MGS4 Shadow Moses. >Toy Parade An underground factory that leads into a crude looking amusement park full of old scrapped Eggman robots. Basically a more horrific looking Toy Kingdom >Red Ridge Rural Town in the badlands, very old western. Ends with a train chase. Inspired by old southern manufacturing towns >Egg Colossus A large tower base that's revealed to be a giant Eggman robot controlled by Eggman. >True Death Egg/Ultimate Egg The destroyed moon rebuilt as the strongest death Egg.
>>2450 Egg Rocket Zone from Advance 1 is kind of similar to that, you're climbing a rocket as it jettisons pieces of itself after launch.
A bouncy house zone would be interesting from a gameplay perspective if done right.
They should make a coffehouse themed zone, perhaps call it something like "Mean Bean Zone".
>>30889 does scrambled shore count, the area has a weird inflatable motif.
>>36673 It fits aesthetically, but the balloon elements don't really affect gameplay.
What would a /fast/ themed zone look like?
>>40346 neet room full of oc plushies and garbage
>Twister Territory Zone Windy Valley touched on it, but I'd love something where the weather is fucked and actively fighting with and for you. >Raging Plantation Zone Industrial meets giant plants. You usually get one or the other, but I think setpieces like high-power water streams or plants you're standing on being snipped by giant trimmers are fun. Maybe a greenhouse or two to keep things fresh. >Magnet Museum Zone Switches and doohickeys in activate shit like mechanical dinosaurs, mine cart displays, and whatever else comes to mind since you can get away with a lot of shit here. >Shinobi Stronghold Zone Weeb ninja castle with shit like hidden revolving doors, trap pitfalls, and all sorts of tricks. >Moai Highway Zone Just a lot of fucking statues - maybe even make a few move or crumble, kick one down to surf on, that sorta thing.
>>40356 I like it
>>40346 Years ago on 4/sthg/ anons were thinking of making a museum /sthg/ zone. Feels kinda accurate considering so many threads here are so old. >>40356 Lol, accurate for me. >>40379 >I'd love something where the weather is fucked and actively fighting with and for you Kinda like Crisis City in Gens with the tornado?
>>40379 > Emerging Ocean Zone A strange disturbance in the ocean is causing it to rise above the skies! What's more, the waves appear more solid than normal! The heroes must find clues to solve this mystery. > Sun Citadel Zone An ancient ruin in the Sol Dimension, from before the emergence of Blaze's Royal Family. It is protected by the Sun itself. Would-be heroes trying to trespass must hide in the shadows. > Gnome Kingdom Zone A region for the small gnome people. Though much shorter than you, their absurdly high numbers can be a danger if provoked. Do not harm them, if you can! > Cerulean Road Zone A passage from the realm of Dreams, granting safe travels to all who are strong enough to wake up. > Verdant Subterra Zone Green hills inside a Hollow Earth, infested with beasts of antiquity. You thrived against smaller foes, but can you survive these Paleotitans? > Glyphic Memory Zone A forest filled with ancient trees that can remember people from the distant future, even those who never came to pass. > Mystic Casino Zone A meta-world created for the amusement of wizards. Unlike other casinos, the real danger is not gambling enough. > Canyon City Zone A hanging city in the middle of an endless canyon. One of the Dawn Witches passed through here. What is this suspicious city hiding? > Clown Vista Zone With the illusion of the canyon city gone, this world is revealed as a miasma-infested clownhole! Can you escape from the evil servants of the magicians in this eclipsed world? > Umbral Towers Zone An obscure world with everlasting towers, where magicians who indulge in dark desires reign supreme. Eternally at war with each other, the dark wizards are thankfully too busy infighting to pay any attention to invading heroes. Be careful not to get hit in the crossfire, though! > Red Moon Zone A resting world for the departed, where they prepare themselves for their final judgment. You are not part of the dead, so you can only watch... for now. > Fleet Ascent Zone Unable to find a path to the enemy headquarters, their last hope lies in the treacherous Dr. Eggman's new interdimensional fleet technology. He will definitely betray you, but for now, let us follow him as we invade their homeworld! > Mount Dawn Zone The homeworld of the powerful Dawn Witches. The place where light is dark and darkness is light, said to be the highest peak in any dimension. > Ultra Elevators Zone Counterattacking the magicians and the heroes, the Doctor creates an endless array of autogenerating elevators across dimensions to send his robot armies. The heroes must use this unwitting opportunity to reach the Oracle before Dr. Eggman! > Oracle Heaven Zone The heavenly realm of the Oracle, a magician beyond all time itself. This zone can predict your every move; traps are unavoidable. The 9th Witch invites you to your final journey. > Final Saga Zone With all the dimensions merging into one, the heroes have one last opportunity to stop the harmonic convergence before it is too late...
[Expand Post] > Dead Moon Zone You were destined to fail, and so you did. It is finally time for your judgment, at the end of time itself. > Ultimate Saga Zone The heroes must traverse through a maze mixing all they learned in different locations! Titan clowns in a Hollow Earth? A Sun Casino? Find your way through this labyrinth to undo the harmonic convergence!
