>the third version
It should also be noted that the third version was often the definitive version, think that was maybe just with 3 and Sukiyaki but still making two version to try and increase player interaction and then going "Yeah, nah" is definitely a thing.
The games did make the PokeCompany sweat a little, then again Yokai Watch being the first game in like a decade to challenge default kings of Mon training games would make them sweat because they couldn't get by with just being lazy and incompetent anymore. Same kinda thing with Palworld, "Oh NO! Someone actually did something with our formula that is unique and original and isn't a threat to our bland, generic, tat! Better sue them into oblivion!".
Remember RotomDex in Sun/Moon and how it was almost a direct response to the YokaiWatch pad?
Like part of what I enjoyed in the first place about YokaiWatch was that it's difference and kinda tongue in cheek charm kinda set it apart and felt like a breath of fresh air. Was nice to have a game where you could fight a sweaty sauna pig with a dragon, toothy Karen, and a literal pile of garbage all because you need his underwear for a quest - there is a fetish in there, I just know it.
And being able to use the camera to take photos of your friends to find out how they've been inspirited was a nice touch, it was more just there to use a 3DS feature but it was a nice touch that fit the theme of the game.
Also, can I just say this, fuck the two versions thing, Pokemon did it originally but that was only because the first one (Green) was a bit broken but proved popular enough that it got a version update in Red and Blue.
