Doing a serious playthrough through Scythe 1 and fuck it's pretty intense. Playing some classic WADs through DSDADoom rather than GZDoom with mods has been a hell of a wake-up call as to what the true, classic Doom experience should be. Also what do you niggers think of Fallen Aces? I'm loving the aesthetic of the game and the cutsscenes so far but I'm not sure about the gameplay itself so far. I can't quite evaluate it because I'm into it so early and honestly I should've picked hard difficulty instead of medium in hindsight but I feel like a lot of the "immersive sim" hate this genre term aspects can be bypassed by sheer brute force. >>1051636 Nah you're right. It's more Melee/stealth focused than your typical throwback FPS but it's pretty fun. I don't know for sure if it's made by the guys that made the Action Doom mods but it sure as hell feels like them, so if you've ever played those mods for Doom I'd say check it out.
Doom 1, Doom 2, Hexen, Hexen 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow Warrior, Blood 1997, Quake, or Quake 2, but not only can some weapons have a melee button akin to a "rifle butt" hit, but also dual wielding for pistols, plasma rifles and handheld explosives ||like with Duke 3D's cylindrical detonators, SW's Gas Grenades and Blood's dynamite sticks.||

I just tried out VKDoom, it sucks. Its supposed ray tracing render doesn't make the maps look any better or have a much needed lightning improvement, it looks pretty much the same and it doesn't even have better model rendering either. It is also much less stable, I had like 3 CTDs which 2 of it were related to soundfonts which is retarded and the other CTD is I have no fucking idea, it happened right while I was playing this source port. What a fucking meme source port.

BREAKING NEWS! No, not the one about halfchan Cyriak made a 10-years anniversary remake of Going Down called GD Turbo. I'm playing through it right now and it's super cute: it feels like playing a pocket version of GD because it's so simplified and streamlined.

As for why it took so long: as far as I remember from developer blogs, they looked through enemies and guns several times, it took quite a while to figure out what the fuck to do with later episodes and did a facelift to episode 1. I am going to through E1 and it's considerably prettier than what it was before, but overall structure of levels didn't really change that much for the most part. I'm playing on "hard" difficulty, but it's pretty easy and forgiving so far. Haven't really had that many moments where I was out of ammo, despite them remaking starter pistol to use 10 ammo per shot (it's ammo pickups give 20 ammo and cap out at 250 ammo).

Not exactly a fan of the "Hellbird" enemy, it's gameplay design is annoying enough that I have to keep flamethrower exclusively for them and nothing else. Also, some enemies are kinda easy to exploit for armor gains, but I'm not sure if that's oversight or intended since you really only can do it when they're alone.
