Doing a serious playthrough through Scythe 1 and fuck it's pretty intense. Playing some classic WADs through DSDADoom rather than GZDoom with mods has been a hell of a wake-up call as to what the true, classic Doom experience should be. Also what do you niggers think of Fallen Aces? I'm loving the aesthetic of the game and the cutsscenes so far but I'm not sure about the gameplay itself so far. I can't quite evaluate it because I'm into it so early and honestly I should've picked hard difficulty instead of medium in hindsight but I feel like a lot of the "immersive sim" hate this genre term aspects can be bypassed by sheer brute force. I just tried out VKDoom, it sucks. Its supposed ray tracing render doesn't make the maps look any better or have a much needed lightning improvement, it looks pretty much the same and it doesn't even have better model rendering either. It is also much less stable, I had like 3 CTDs which 2 of it were related to soundfonts which is retarded and the other CTD is I have no fucking idea, it happened right while I was playing this source port. What a fucking meme source port.

As for why it took so long: as far as I remember from developer blogs, they looked through enemies and guns several times, it took quite a while to figure out what the fuck to do with later episodes and did a facelift to episode 1. I am going to through E1 and it's considerably prettier than what it was before, but overall structure of levels didn't really change that much for the most part. I'm playing on "hard" difficulty, but it's pretty easy and forgiving so far. Haven't really had that many moments where I was out of ammo, despite them remaking starter pistol to use 10 ammo per shot (it's ammo pickups give 20 ammo and cap out at 250 ammo).

Kiwifarms released their first map pack, have any of you tried it?

>>1223382 It's a very mixed bag. The quality of the hub level is great, the quality of the actual levels themselves varies from decent to absolutely dogshit. Way too many of them are basically just the creator shoving as many monsters as they possibly can into a layout, or deliberately trying to fuck you over so you have to play the level twice if you aren't quicksaving. The "humor" is hit or miss as well, it really comes off as trying too hard. There are also a few quests in the hub level that are just plain annoying. Still better than 95% of doomworld's output in the last few years, and to make it a gzdoom exclusive just to spit in the face of all of the trannies in that community is pretty based. I know a lot of people absolutely hate zdoom but I think most of the things people hate about it are a byproduct of the shitty community around it, and creating more content for the port that gets hosted outside of that community really has the potential to improve the overall experience. Or it'll kill the port dead when all the seething trannies leave, which I suppose would be funny.

Why did I ignore this game for so long? This shit is fantastic so far. Of all the "le ebin boomer shooters" this one actually feels like Quake. Hell, I'd have thought it was a full fledged commercial game made in Quakespasm or something if the Steam page didn't mention that the dev developed his own engine. I'd honestly put this up there with Dusk in terms of new games that actually fundamentally understand 90s shooters. I've been spoiled on this but I refuse to make any of the recipes until I've beaten the actual chapter In any case this game is fun, I notice the main menu has a Mods menu that I haven't checked yet, are there any highly regarded mods for this yet?

Heretic + Hexen Remaster released by Nightdive for Quakecon. Very similar package deal to Doom + Doom II. There is a new Soundtrack, and a new Episode for both games. Prior owners on Steam or GoG get the update for free, like with prior Nightdive updates.

There isn't a concert list of what exactly is rebalanced yet with these settings, but from what I can gather, weapons in general have been buffed. There are other settings to show the locations of keys, and just tell you where to go more in Hexen.
