Makes perfect sense. FIFA/EA got rich by copying KONAMI's engine and gameplay and tossing all the money to PR and licenses, which is what people end up caring about over the actual simulation itself - it's no surprise that bootleg sports games on app stores have millions of downloads regardless of their actual quality solely because they have names/faces/teams that are or mimic real life counterparts.
Frankly, PES was fun but it's a relic from 10 years ago, and FIFA is even worse and outdated.

>Why is everyone against character creators lately?
With how tightly regulated online interactions are, you don't want to erroneously offend people because some joker decided to have Albert Hilter as his player character. There's tons more features in a lot of games with character creation but they're really inflexible by design.

>padded numbers
Their numbers are legitimate. People who're into sports simply want to play with real life players. Do you think the average Nintonddler plays Smash games because of their inherent quality as fighting games / party games (they suck at both imo) or because they've got recognizable faces or characters they grew up with? Modern licensed sports games are practically fanservice for the more socially adjusted individuals. And spics.

Normalfags only play what's popular, dude. You're grossly exaggerating their interest in the hobby other than a way to cool off their workday.
If you want to know what's really killing innovation in games, look no further than the Chinese. People who have never been able to experience vidya except for bootlegs and loophole abusing games suddenly shown a billion different ways to lose their money. It's only natural that they have no prior tastes for it, but since they're the biggest market, the software houses just make shit that maximizes their enjoyment over yours. It's really no different to how text adventures died off when less imaginative people became the most frequent users for consoles/PCs. Or how platformers got killed off when people who had never played a game wanted 3D shit.
