Recently discovered What It's like Being Alone. I'm surprised I'd never heard of this one when it was airing as it's right up my alley for adult animation as a weird show focused on black comedy. Only on the third episode, but it could be described as The Addams Family combined with The Oblongs. Princess Lucy is even very similar to Helga Phugly from The Oblongs in both personality and character design. Aldous reminds me a bit of Creepy Suzy too. Unfortunately I can't find a better quality version online than what's on youtube and no streaming service or torrent sites I've searched has it. The creator, John Callahan, was a quadriplegic from a drunk driving accident who started drawing after regaining partial use of his hands. The main character is an author avatar right down to the alcoholism. As someone who has struggled with mental illness my entire life and even been involuntarily committed a few times it's actually refreshing to find a show that is willing to joke at the absurdity and tragedy of not being normal and functional like most people. Way too much media over the past couple decades doesn't even want to touch the subject of mental or physical disability in a way that isn't at least a bit patronizing, much less joke about it more than occasional one off gags. I feel I can't even talk about it openly online much without some mental illness tumblr type butting in and acting like I'm an asshole for even mentioning a desire to be normal or being self aware enough to recognize the absurdity and sometimes laughing at my own mental illness, probably be dead from suicide already if I couldn't laugh at myself sometimes. Quads! at least has some torrents available and is all on Tubi for free. Not just specifically for the new movie but Superman in general if you wanna talk about the character. It was suggested to me to make a thread separate from the Pain Thread to talk about the movie. I'll reiterate my thoughts here but feel free to look in the Pain Thread as well. I surprisingly really like James Gunn's Superman. I say this as someone who mostly hates the changes to characters he did in GotG & definitely don't like his Suicide Squad, Peacemaker, or Creature Commandos stuff. Maybe it's because Superman is so much more restrained compared to Gunn's usual self. It's not constantly throwing jokes at you or mean spirited. And let's get this out of the way again. Both Gunn brothers comments about the movie being about immigrants is in the same vein as Starship Troopers "saying" the humans are the bad guys. It's flat out wrong & just the director's own attempt at pushing his politics. The word immigrant never comes up in the movie. If you just had to reach for a comparison, Superman is still an "immigrant" who completely assimilated into American life. Which really goes against the pro immigration narrative as most don't do this anymore. Nor is it a take down on Israel for their warcrimes in Gaza & Palestine as a whole but would be fine if it was intended that way. But yes if you've seen certain leaks from months back, some are true. The Jor-El & Supergirl leaks are true. The latter we kinda knew beforehand with the fact her casting was announced so a cameo was guaranteed. The Jor-El stuff will remain contentious even if the comics had a similar idea back in the 80s but people are only used to the Donner idea of Jor-El from the movie. As for why I enjoy this new movie so much, it's just a nice entertaining movie that, despite it's costume designs, feels the closest we've gotten for a long time to an unashamedly comic book movie. Not completely irony poisoned that it can't take anything seriously like any MCU movie. It understands Superman as just a good man who wants to protect & help. Not as an angsty loner burdened by power constantly at war with himself over doing the right thing. Some may not like it but the inclusion of the 'Justice Gang' helps expand & establish this world as having superheroes already in it without going right into the big names that will eventually form the Justice League. I also like how Luthor isn't a giggling platitudes spouting freak but an actual cold calculating envious man with a superiority complex. I want to see more of this universe with this same kind of energy even if I am still wary of where James Gunn will go with it through explaining things like Peacemaker. If he can just keep a tone & style closer to this instead of Creature Commandos then there's a chance. We'll all really see once Supergirl comes out next year.

Adjectiveless Gwenpool has started today. Watch as Gwen Stacy is brought back from the dead and Gwen Poole has to deal with it. Will Cavan Scott be able to make this terrible pitch forced upon him work, or will it just be another terrible story for both Gwens?

The steampunk setting and the Tezuka/Fleischer designs looks neat, even if the main cast and premise reminds me of Sym-Bionic Titan. Later episodes will come every Friday.
