Post licensed vidya that you like, for me it's the first The Darkness game. I wish there was another game with a similar tone and atmosphere and that Nightdive can escape the licensing nightmare over this game so we can get a PC port.

Do people actually enjoy Diablo and games like Diablo? Anonymous 05/22/2025 (Thu) 00:09:49 Id: cf52e6 No. 1388394 [Reply]
Why do people enjoy this dogshit? Are they pretending? The entire gameplay is just spamming one button and hoping you don't die, might as well play cookie clicker. The staff of the sorcerer needs to be recharged lmao it has a battery or what? I tried playing it for about 5 hours and I genuinely don't understand what's so good about it. Maybe people 30 years ago were amazed by seeing something happen on the screen after pressing a button but nowadays some trash chink gacha on mobile is more fun and has better gameplay.

>>1388394 >Do people actually enjoy Diablo and games like Diablo? Seems like it, considering they've been making these games for more than two decades now.
as a casual who doesn't care much beyond beyond clearing the game on all three difficulties, the minmax grind sounds downright masochistic and miserable. the runeword grind alone makes me wanna puke. i don't know who could possibly enjoy farming equips just to make number go up, especially the one thing i don't like about games like it is that without number crunching/wiki autism (e.g. distribute your points exactly like this or you lose dmg) you're at a disadvantage. of course devs inevitably end up balancing stuff around the wiki autist minmaxers so you end up being forced to partake in it, skipping the discovery/experimentation phase and skipping straight to the endgame.
>>1436745 This is all caused by the synergy patch. Diablo 2 wasn't as heavy with farming to just progress. When we got the synergy patch they had to bloat the monsters stats. I remember when I was slowly making my way through Act IV Hell on a concentration maul barbarian and then downloaded the new patch and he could only hang in Nightmare due to how fucked the gear scaling became. This is partly why I enjoy Diablo I more than II. You can get by with either the items you find naturally on your descent, or find some magical gear to purchase from Griswold or Wirt. There was also a reason to pick up every magical item. People claim Diablo II has superb itemization, but there's only certain magical items they are looking for so most items that aren't normal won't be picked up. In Diablo I every magical item can be a potential upgrade. Sure there are less modifiers on magical items in Diablo I, but there is always excitement in finding any blue item. There was a run in which I did Hell with a Saber because it spawned with a high enhanced damage percentage and chance to hit which out did other weapons in damage regardless of their items higher base damage. I won't be picking up a blue short sword in Act IV/V normal in Diablo II because there's almost nothing that can spawn on it that'll out do other weapons types I've unlocked as I've progressed. Then you can compound that with early rune words that give modifiers that blue magical items simply can't give like crushing blow or open wounds, or a flat out +1 to all skills. Sadly ARPGs took the grind item treadmill from Diablo II rather than being one and done in a play session of Diablo I. I guess that's to be expected, more games are geared towards keeping a player playing the game across many years rather than being a concise session that the player might revisit in a year or two and spend a week on.

What a piece of doodoo dogshit lol. My performance was good on the tutorial island but after I left it I'm struggling to get even 30 fps on the lowest graphical settings and that's with an rtx 3060 and 16 gbs of ram, surpassing the recommended system requirements. Why are game devs seemingly incapable of optimizing their games even out of a AA game? I shouldn't have to do workarounds and fix anything, the game should be good out of the box

Seriously, hearing the Jailer say >Here in the jail we punish >Or at least we're meant to >I'm supposed to be intimidating >GRRR Completely killed any immersion I might have had in this world. 300 neurotic quirky side characters all at the same time just fucking killed it for me and it's a shame because outside the first Merchant you find (which has a lore reason for being quirky) the game took itself seriously. Should we write a meaningful well thought out character? No fuck that! Just make him autistic and completely out of place! It's ok, it's optional!
>>1428223 The writing is just of overall shit quality. One dimensional NPCs (hi, I'm a guard, here's my life story and a quest that goes along with it), flat side quests. I've read more interesting quests in MMOs. The lolrandom humour's best example is the quest where you get an explosive package in order to blow open a sealed tomb. Inside you find an undead cook who is obsessed with cheese. Completing the quest line gives you a spell that turns targets into cheese.
>>1436353 The issue isn't even the concept, you can do that silly stuff without shit writing that doesn't take itself seriously. Why can't these faggots just be genuine? Why does everything have to be sarcastic and quirky and shit, fucking hell.

>>1407146 ubishit "side content" collecthethons are bad recently true. but they used to be good. in ac2, there were a few dozen and they took 2 hours max to find all of them. and each piece gave you a piece of a mystery and at the end you got a cool armor. in ac brotherhood onwards and in farcry it became aids. but in watch dogs, it became good again. there were just so much variety, there was that spider mecha minigame. the "find qr codes" and car stunts mini game that you usually had to do together. the "hack citizens and snoop on them" minigame. variety made them good. though then again they made them far too many in watch dogs 2 and ruined it. in that tomboy greek game they made, which was a fun game. the collectables became fun minigames again. each one being built around one of the tomboy's magical powers. was loads of fun. but dear god did they really have to cram so many of them with so little distance between them. honestly the problem with ac and far cry is that it only has one single type, climb something and open a chest, or run while parkouring. its just so boring after so many times.

Gauntlet Anonymous 04/26/2025 (Sat) 19:14:05 Id: 4c5819 No. 1266404 [Reply]
I have been playing a lot of Gauntlet:dark legacy lately and have been having a lot of fun. I think this game is the most "Gamey" out of all of them. The only other games that would be as gamey would be old arcade games that didn't even pretend to have a story. It is simple yes but it is still a joy to explore the levels. I also just love the presentation of it all. The booming voice of the old wizard makes for a great announcer, all the characters are just fantasy stereotypes taken to an extreme. I would complain about the slowdown in the hub but I have no idea if that is on the original gamecube or if its just my emulator acting up. It is making me wonder why they dont make another gauntlet game. Then I remember that there was one back in 2014 but no one gives a shit about it. Probably wont make a sequel to that either, Arrowhead is much too busy with helldivers. How come buying the bundle is cheaper than buying gauntlet separately?

Super Mario Peakshine Anonymous 05/14/2025 (Wed) 21:20:33 Id: dce51c No. 1358732 [Reply] [Last]
People hate it because they were filtered by it. Anyone who actually understood what 64 was going for knows Sunshine is the perfect sequel. No, 64 was not intended to be a collectathon. The focus of 64 was always the missions. There's a few times in 64 where you can see levels changing in-between missions. For example, Womp's fortress and Bob omb battlefield. Sunshine builds upon this and has levels change with each mission thus giving the sandbox more variety and allowing missions to truly prosper. In turn you lose the freedom of 64, but that freedom was never intentional. Doing missions in any order you want was never the intention behind 64. It was a technical limitation. Sunshine has much more interesting missions in general in comparison to 64. There's much less repetitive ",go kill this amount of enemies" "go find five secrets" You have a Zelda dungeon inspired hotel level Rolling watermelons on beaches Climbing an ancient mountain and solving a few puzzles along the way Giving chain chomps a bath Fighting Bowser on a roller coaster You then have the secret levels which act like the Bowser levels in 64 and challenge your skills. Compare Sunshine to Super Mario Odyssey which is supposedly better. Which game has the more meaningful missions? Which game has actual challenging platforming?

>>1391920 >For super mario odyssey, I do knock off points for every bad Moon it has. I, for one, hate that jump rope Moon with a passion. I never beaten it legitimately without cheating with the MARIO letters glitch. git gud
Really makes you think.
I beat it for the first time some weeks ago. Got like 110 stars. Did everything except for some 100 coin and blue coin stars, and the chuckster red coin mission. Game's good, but it's no more than good. The physics are really iffy. There's a lot of weird quirks to Mario's movement, and a lot of jank around moving platforms like in this anon's second clip >>1361382 that made the game endlessly frustrating to play. By contrast I played Vexx right before Sunshine and as mediocre as that game was I never had a problem landing pinpoint jumps with its controls. Mario's air movement is weird. His X-axis and Z-axis acceleration work by different rules. Suppose you jump from a stand-still while facing forward; if you move the control stick left or right, Mario instantly gains a set amount of momentum in that direction, and when you let go of the stick, he instantly loses it. If instead you move the control stick forward or backward, Mario gradually accelerates in that direction, and when you let go of the stick he keeps all momentum gained. If you ever need to make an adjustment on both axes at once, for instance to land a precise jump on a moving platform, this system makes that needlessly unintuitive. The hover nozzle is made tiresome to use by the game's insistence that Mario must slowly swivel around to face the direction he's trying to move to before being allowed to move in that direction. The ground controls are much too sensitive. Acceleration is practically instant and even a tiny tilt of the control stick makes him move too fast, so in some situation you end up having to make a lot of quick microadjustments like in that above clip. Also, it may just have been my controller, but it didn't feel like Mario had full 360 degree movement. If I make him run forward and slowly turn the stick left or right, it takes a while before I notice a change in his direction. And that's just the most obvious stuff I can recall from memory. This isn't a huge deal if you're just running around an open level, and I did have good fun messing around with the moveset in those parts of the game, but it's a poor fit for the more precise platforming sequences the game loves to throw at you. Outside of that, a lot of missions are a work of tedium.
