Playing on Permadeath Anonymous 04/29/2025 (Tue) 14:48:07 Id: 2758ee No. 1286214 [Reply]
Hey /v/iggers. I recently pirated The Last of Us 2. Wasn't a fan of the first game and the sequel seems to have way too many cutscenes, but I really wanted to try it out for a long time since I heard that it has really good stealth and the game is about as gorgeous as games can look. Anyways, there are a ton of options available to you before starting, one of them being related to how death works; you can set it to where you have the traditional reset at a recent checkpoint, reset at the chapter beginning, reset at the act beginning, or reset at the very beginning. I set it to the act beginning, though this did little to discourage me from inpulsively jumping off a cliff to test whether it had an invisible wall. I wanted to ask whether you think there are times where it shouldn't be an option and that a game should force permadeath, or if not quite that, some sort of limit to the amount of times you can die like in arcade games. Do you think it heightens tension to an exciting level or to the point of annoyance?

The only recent sony game I have played that is really good on harder difficulties was Ghost of Tsushima or whatever it was called. >Wasn't a fan of the first game THEN WHY PLAY THE SEQUEL?!? YOU RETARD But the sequel takes all of the bad from the first and multiplies it by 10. For the permadeath question: Permadeath in games is good when it doesn't have any cheap deaths. If you can have enough skill to prevent death, then permadeath is good. Strangely Pokemon works with Permadeath enabled, mainly due to some skill being needed and random crits being rarer and adding tensions, you aren't instantly punished for something random and you can recover.

Except in extremely niche circumstances like giving money directly to a developer through his private homepage, it is always morally correct to pirate not just video games but all entertainment media because almost everyone involved in all media and marketing industries worldwide legitimately want you and your kind genocided for being straight, white, male, and/or having any opinion right of Marx.

>>1225073 they are all very fun and visually interesting if you want to start playing raids I suggest doing dungeons or doing the easier raids like root of nighmare, vault of glass, or deep stone crypt. grandmaster nightfalls are totally different from raids because grandpas are about how hard you can cheese / not get hit, raids are have baby nightfall levels of damage and hp with hard modes being at master nightdall levels of hp and damage but easier because theres no modifiers to fuck with you.
>>1225073 As other anons said they're the crux of the game but as a new player they're hard to approach as the game itself doesn't try to guide you of which order raids should be tackled in order to learn. Release order specially is fucked because of both inconsistent difficulties and the fact that there's both old raids from D1 and there's no longer 2 (5 by technicality) raids Destiny 2 used to have prior to 2021. Pic related might as well be a different game from what there is today.
Is there any moderately challenging solo content in the game? I'm at 1970 power and the regular vanguard strike playlist is too easy and stuff like expert lost sectors are annoyingly difficult.

Not Enjoying Games Anymore? Anonymous 04/30/2025 (Wed) 06:23:37 Id: d88aab No. 1289861 [Reply] >>1315414
This is sort of a meta thread, so feel free to remove it if it's the wrong place for this. Anyway, have you all ever become burnt out on video games? I've felt like recently no matter what I play, I just can't enjoy it. I get the initial enjoyment of starting the game that I've been thinking about for a very long time, but I just don't have the reason or motivation to care to see it through, and the more I force myself to continue the game, the more I hate it. The last time I enjoyed a game was when I was playing through the MGS series. I racked up a list of things I wanted to play or replay because at that moment, I was solely focused on playing MGS. After I finished, I took a short break and decided I wanted to play DMC, since I tried it a long time ago and thought maybe I'd enjoy it on another attempt. I started out liking it, but slowly began to hate it, and eventually I dropped it. I went on to replay Nier after that because I remember very fondly those characters and wanted to check it out again, but didn't have the investment to see past the first few hours. Then a friend bought me Death Stranding, another game I disliked before, but decided I would give another go. After about 5 hours, I lost steam for it. I then tried to play Thief, a brand new game, and while I loved the game's atmosphere and think it's amazingly designed, I quit that one, too, because it just didn't spark anything in me. Now I've been fiending for a Sekiro replay after getting more into samurai films, and Sekiro is one of my favorites, but even now I feel like I'd rather be playing something else, like Ghost of Tsushima or Nier. On the flip side, I played Shantae somewhere in between those games and was hooked, I loved it, and I'm replaying Morrowind right now because it's a game that's near to my heart and am similarly in love with it. I know I can like games, but for some reason, I just can't enjoy the ones I feel so interested in playing. There's just something missing from me that's not letting me enjoy new games. I've mostly just resigned to doing my other hobbies by now. It makes me very frustrated, though, like something's broken about me. It's as if I like the idea of playing these games than actually playing them. I want to like them, but I just can't. Have you anons ever experienced this issue? How did you fix it?

Final Fantasy 5 Anonymous 04/25/2025 (Fri) 10:24:42 Id: 3c24a4 No. 1252764 [Reply] >>1310830
It's about time for my yearly replay of FF5. Any ideas for an autistic way to replay the game? Last year I played the game with Bartz only (other than the part where you only have Galuf and Fork Tower where I only used Krile). The year before it was Blue Mage + Beastmaster only.

I don't find challenge runs like Four Job Fiesta or stuff like it fun. But if I ever replay the game again, I'll probably force myself NOT to use Blue Magic and pretend it just doesn't exist. Having to keep looking up spells and enemies and learn the things just eats up too much time and centralizes my strategy too much.

Discuss Crypt, Cadence of Hyrule and Rift of the Necrodancer in this thread. You love rhythm games and roguelites right?? Brag about beating the game if you did. I finally beat Aria, Bolt, Monk and Nocturna all zones modes recently, in that order. It felt great, clocking in around ~100 hours of playtime in Crypt. Only got around 20 hours in Rift, the songs on hard difficulty really get difficult after a point. Charming rhythm games, I regret not learning about them until recently. Now I'm not sure if I want to actually try to unlock Coda and attempt the ultimate challenge Crypt of the Necrodancer has to offer. Get the games on your favorite russian forum >Crypt https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=65142&hilit=necrodancer >Rift https://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=125772&hilit=necrodancer

Why are there few games about the Mongol Empire? Anonymous 04/24/2025 (Thu) 03:34:14 Id: d5ddb9 No. 1236110 [Reply]
It's a cool and excellent setting due to the epic diversity of conquest that the Mongols have done. >Unite nomadic tribes to form the Khan. >Defeat Chinese Dynasties that have advanced technology and gunpower weapons. >Utterly destroy Islamic Civilization. >Rampage Russia, Poland and Hungary. >Fight the Egyptian Mamluks. >Fight Japanese Samurai. >Fight against Koreans,Vietnamese, Koreans and Indonesians. >Fight each other through civil wars using their main military and the local troops. But somehow very few games scratch the surface of how epic actual history is.

modern education doesn't discuss mongol history in the west, and the only exposure modern generations got was the episodes of southpark where that one dude built a chinese wall surrounding the town and mongols attacked it repeatedly.

>>1309622 >Chinks will make a lot of Turko-Mongol content but they will cast everyone as chinese because whenever a region of china got taken over by horse riders they would become "chinese" by marrying someone from a local dynasty and settling down to rule over their new subjects and it's part of chinese larp to try and use that to act like they won those battles. To be completely fair China is very good as assimilating invaders into becoming Chinese. The basic pattern seems to be >attack China >conquer China >rule China >become China

Post them. Rate/hate. Recommend which games other people should start with first. I have 100 games on Steam which I figure should last me a long time--outside of a few upcoming sequels/DLCs to games listed, I won't be spending any more on games until I've finished everything here. This is actually doable as most of them aren't super long. Stardew Valley is left out because I'm already planning to play it at a relaxed pace as I play other games. Astro Bot Anonymous 04/21/2025 (Mon) 23:54:06 Id: e419bf No. 1200132 [Reply] >>1310310>>1310405
It's overrated overbranded toddler upchuck laced with corpo poison. "Sony's Mario" fucking no. Mario wasn't an overbranded cynical cash grab. Mario wasn't a wink at the camera shallow "how do you do fellow kids" attempt at normalizing the worship of corporate tech products. Mario didn't fly round the galaxy in a ship shaped like a fucking NES, his brand was himself. Astro Bot can't even exist in its own internally coherent setting because the setting is literally crossover corporate fanfiction, the setting is the DIGITAL STOREFRONT OF THE SONY CORPORATION. Also this attempt to normalize mUh CuTe RoBoTS is clearly an attempt to brainwash gen alpha into accepting faceless ai powered surveillance drones into their homes for the benefit of Great Israel. Even the setting of Astro Bot is a corporate psyop presenting a world where machines=good organics=bad. They designed Astro to look like Musk and Thiel's new faceless robot drones that will displace 99% of workers in the next decade, they're priming you for domestication and submission to Palantir.

>>1200132 (OP) I only looked into this game once it won GOTY, and I'm just fucking baffled at how the hell anyone can praise it. In terms of gameplay there's absolutely no fucking depth, it's one of the easiest and simplest platformers I've seen. It just tries to constantly throw shallow theme parks at you with basic gimmicks, minimal exploration, and constant crossovers with dead IPs in the hopes that this will amuse you, and somehow the masses are absolutely enthralled by it. I remember hearing how it had a level that was a "love letter" to Ape Escape, but when I looked at a video of it I was presented with a generic little grassy area with a monkey Statue of Liberty being the only Ape Escape element, which made me think the level was meant to be a callback to the first level of AE2 but there aren't any other shared elements, and then you catch some Astro monkeys, fight some generic Astro Bot enemies, and then do a very basic boss fight against a Spencer bot. That was it, that was the supposed love letter I just can't understand how anyone can praise the game, I liked modern collectathons like Hat in Time or Demon Turf enough so it's not like I'm a bitter old man who hates new games, Astro Bot just seems like it fails to have any significant positive qualities beyond being a functional game
>>1200132 (OP) I watched a playthrough of it. Not only did it feel conceptually like "Sony's attempt at Mario," the aesthetic and thematic scenarios in which Astro found himself looked to me like literal 1:1 theft copies of Nintendo's previous Mario work. I was sort of astounded at how close they went ahead and made levels look/feel like Mario. But the game really is just "look at all the intellectual properties we either own or used to own and shat down our legs due to incompetence," isn't it? I'm honestly surprised there wasn't a Concord level.
>Mario wasn't an overbranded cynical cash grab. Mario wasn't a wink at the camera shallow "how do you do fellow kids" attempt at normalizing the worship of corporate tech products. Lmfao

I think it's one of the best-feeling ships in GX to drive, and has one of the best boost/speed stats as well. Draq himself is just a lovable giant alien dude who's a hardcore fan of F-Zero in-universe and he's living his dream of racing with his heroes. He even practices by playing the F-Zero games. I love this big ugly fucker. Across all the games, I think my favorite track to play on is Outer Space (GX), but my favorite location (and music) is White Land (SNES). Just the idea of racing through a snowy winter planet with a city in the background speaks to me because I've always enjoyed winter, and the city in the background of the SNES game reminds me of the downtown area of my home city during Canadian winter. The music of White Land is just such a fun and happy snowboard ride. I'm miffed we never got White Land in GX because I would've loved to see it. Off the top of my head my favorite pilot theme music is Super Arrow's. For a while I thought it sounded like it was sung by the lead singer of Gorillaz/Blur (Damon Albarn)? That vocalist sounds an awful lot like him.

Games with the "Soldier of Fortune" spirit Anonymous 04/19/2025 (Sat) 11:17:59 Id: c1e91a No. 1145712 [Reply]
It's gonna be a specific thread, but bear with me. Basically, I'm looking for more games with the whole "mercenaries doing mercenary things" aesthetic, with people dropping into areas of conflict for a huge paycheck, and perhaps to end in the cover of the Soldier of Fortune magazine (which also had a video game that I liked a lot). Recently, I decided to play Jagged Alliance 2 for the first time. While I'm still learning the game's mechanics, I'm having fun with it, controlling a bunch of guns for hire with distinct personalities and skills, shooting nigs and be paid in handsomely for it. There were also other action games like Mercenaries, where you could buy airstrikes to bomb well guarded areas. I basically just want games where the setting is a bit like an action flick about poeple who made warfare their job.
