MGSV is peak atmosphere and peak gaming Anonymous 04/23/2025 (Wed) 21:27:49 Id: cde249 No. 1231576 [Reply] >>1264531
Look I've played them all (including MSX) and love them to bits. MGSV isn't even my favorite. But it is still one of my favorite gaming experiences. I still believe it has some of the best and smoothest controls and is a true sandbox. What I mean by that is there are a lot of games that are technically sandboxes, but the level design of MGSV is an actual sandbox as in you can problem solve using every single tool in the game. When it comes to the story I know it technically has a lot of flaws if you analyze it, but did someone else feel really emotionally attached to everything? It is a little strange that MGSV was a game that kind of made me feel a lot more emotions than a lot of full blown RPGs I've played with a lot of character development.

My controversial stance is that they should've dropped mother base and instead just have you pequod'ing around the country and spent the time on making the actual map more populated with events and interactivity. Instead you have this stilted system where literally everything important happens at mother base which is otherwise entirely barren and empty, so you're constantly having to go back just for story events and then go back into the world again. It'd require story rewrites and big mechanics changes and all that but fuck it, do that too. They also should've had multiple smaller areas like GZ which is a more contained, tightly designed map with multiple objectives and missions through it.
>>1264407 That's an interesting idea. You could have made it so that Kaz is running admin from the base and you'd just be checking in remotely, have Mother Basie visualized similarly as to how Peace Walker did it as a digital interface where you're making decisions and upgrading, sending shit out etc. Then somewhere in the third act you'd have a big moment set up when you have a lull somewhere or there is an urgent reason to go back to MB and then see it entirely realized as what it is.

I do not care about Minecraft nor cannot figure out how it manage to get a movie. I do not get its massive popularity. I don't understand how Steve is in Smash. I thought it was some small indie game long time ago.

Hollow knight, shovel knight, binding of isaac, these 2d games where you play as cute little deadly funko pops are the most reddit thing ever and I don't understand the appeal. I also feel like I'm in an extreme minority for thinking this way. I find the art styles and the overall concepts disgusting.
>>1166663 This along with Mega Man
>>1137977 This. I pirated Elden Ring, got to (and beat) Godrick and just uninstalled it. I do not understand how people enjoy beating their head against a wall for 30 hours but I figured my time was better spent elsewhere. Also I just hate the dodge rolling giving you I-Frames thing. It looks so silly to tumble through a you-sized club swing. Doing a cool quick step and disappearing into smoke is fine, parrying or deflecting the attack, sure. But just tumbling and phasing through attacks because of I-frames just ruins the atmosphere of a beautiful game.

Old flash games Anonymous 04/26/2025 (Sat) 13:26:23 Id: 63e611 No. 1264337 [Reply]
Shame the flash thread got pushed off the board by the recent influx of low quality threads, but since that's over it looks like normal threads are possible again. Attached some classics that I'm personally fond of. Also if anyone has a swf of Dragon Ball Z Tournament from the old Cartoon Network/Toonami size, I'd appreciate it. Couldn't find that thing anywhere.

It's like Bayonetta. The base game is already good but they're too afraid that if they don't add any other gimmicks the game wont sell well.

Seeing that we have an influx of new users, I thought it is a good idea to bring back this project. (I copied an old OP by one of the anons so I hope they don't mind) For those that don't know, here’s how it works. Everyone is taking turns downloading the newest version of the game, making contributions before reuploading it for someone else to work on it. Only one person can actively work on it at a time. This is because if two people make overlapping changes to the database, scripts or switches, they will conflict resulting in one person having to redo all their work. Changes to the map and events can be copy-pasted from one version of a project to another so you’re free to work on new maps and new events if its not your turn and add them to the current version of the game once it is your turn. It should work like this. OP posts newest version of the map. The first person (Anon #1) to respond to OP stating that he’s going to work on it becomes the active game dev. Once Anon #1 finishes and re-uploads it, the first person to respond to him gets to work on it. So on and so forth. Additionally, whenever you re-upload a new version, reply to the anchor post, it’ll make things a lot easier. General Rules >Don’t mess with maps, events or anything else you didn’t make. Although, adding minor stuff like a connection between two areas or fixing bugs and typos is all fine. >If you’re ok with others editing your stuff, leave a note saying so. >You’re free to add characters and the like, to the inter-dimensional tavern. >You’re also free to make changes to game settings, unless its something we’ve agreed upon (we’ll probably do this via a poll) Current version of the game: v. 0591 https://mega.nz/file/itd1mCTJ#pgEQ3oQQWOgDCO_VLZGs8m1p_OQABjTj8tZ4YNobvlo If you have a new version please notify us so that we can add it in the next OP.

Mother 1 seems to have je ne sais quoi of melancholy to it despite the sillyness to the enemies. Mother 2 fixes more of the frustrating flaws of mother 1 but looses that melancholy and increases the sillyness. But the enemy combat disappointingly plays it straight for a game known for 'quirkyness'. Mother 3 brings back the melancholy back but also increases the sillyness as well while not detracting from the experince. However its more linear as well.

Games where you play as a Merchant Anonymous 03/19/2025 (Wed) 20:35:26 Id: 07e6fa No. 1080891 [Reply]
Games where you engage in mercantile activities, preferably fantasy/historical rather than modern businessman shit. Not the same type of fantasy. Recettear is a pretty classic example and involves you running a shop in a fantasy JRPG world. Port Royale 2 is a great game set in the Carribean where you play as a merchant/Privateer going around the Carribean selling shit to different towns and nations, engaging in wars, hunting pirates etc. Unfortunately, it does not really allow you to be a pirate. The economy is pretty complex from what I've seen and many games do not get to the same level as this one.

Merchant of the Six Kingdoms is a good indie sales game, you're a traveling merchant and you just barter for EVERYTHING with every region and person having differences to how you approach them. There's a card game you can play too. A guy from 4/v/ dev'd it and he seemed cool in the NextFest thread he was posting in a couple years ago.

Hello, I am a lazy-assed motherfucker who wants to program vidya but has the attention span of a fruit fly and can not stick to a project for more than a week before giving up and abandoning it. So let's have a thread for people like me to plan out a simple game, slap it together, stick to it, get something done, and show off to each other. We will each follow a general outline, and each of us will add our own flair to it. This week is prep week. We need two things. 1. a VOLUNTEER to be our guru and decide on a technology platform, and to be able to answer tech questions. The platform must be free-as-in-beer and run on my broken toaster of a computer, and newbies need to be able to use it. I hear that Godot is popular. I have seen some good games made in Twine but have never gotten custom code to work correctly. Other than that I have no idea what games are programmed in these days. 2. we need to decide what sort of simple game we want to make. Do we want to do an Asteroids clone? A Choose Your Own Adventure? Feel free to recommend some simple game from the 1980s or an old classroom assignment. We can point to an online tutorial and say "let's all do that" and let's do it. Newbies who have never programmed a game before are encouraged to join. This is where you get started. I will be the incompetent middle management making overall decisions. This week: get your dev environment set up and play around with tutorials April 19th: I will announce the project First week: Start coding your game April 27th: Give an update on how it's going Second week: Add flair and finishing touches

I've been anticipating this game for years so seeing it finally getting released makes me happy. I've been playing the game on my Deck and its been a blast, it's a Space Harrier tribute that has branching paths like G Darius, the game also has a punching gimmick which is pretty neat since it can function as a risk-reward at times, the OST is also kickass. >inb4 buy an ad shill I just want to talk about this epic game bros.
