You might know that little mushroom dude Funghi/Nameko as a merchandisable mascot in the Land of the Rising Sun, but his spinoffs (unfortunately) overshadowed the game he first appeared in So give this underrated gem some attention with this thread

I'll admit I've never actually played any of the games but I certainly do recognize the funny little mushroom man, so they were probably onto something capitalizing off of his popularity.
>>1400250 (OP) I like those games because a guy on 4v said they were good, and that got me to play them. And I like them enough to get the Switch Port. And that's things honestly, a botch job from what I played. I only done all of 1 and that had some really stupid graphical errors. Hopefully, 2 is better both as a game and as a port. 1 had some stupid puzzles.

Luanti thread Anonymous 12/13/2024 (Fri) 18:40:45 Id: a1d2d0 No. 1050353 [Reply] [Last]
I'm afraid to make a Luanti thread because the game is much better than Minecraft. It's the definitive block building video game. (popularity is not a measure of quality). I'm afraid to make a thread and advertise it's existence for fear of it becoming too popular (normalfags ruin everything). I'm going to make 1 thread about it (per imageboard) and that's it because the userbase is a bit TOO small for my taste and this game could use a bit more players. >How is Luanti better than Minecraft -it is a self contained and simple application. The audio always works, the game always runs reliably. -simple and intuitive Linux and Windows support -it is a convenient platform for mods. This is a big deal. Mods are a 1 click install. There's been times where I didn't like something about the base game so I immediately went and downloaded a mod and the problem was fixed in 5 minutes. -Open source for maximum customizability -every aspect of this game is free as in costs no money. -no corporate faggotry overlordom from micro$oft -Online play is simple and intuitive

Outer Wilds: Not That Good Anonymous 05/26/2025 (Mon) 17:17:06 Id: 6187df No. 1404364 [Reply] >>1412128
I kept hearing about how much of a grand masterpiece this game was just to find it out it was a just a small indie puzzle box with a SUPER OBNOXIOUS central mechanic to pad out the playtime. The gimmick, puzzles having a time limit, is, by itself, a good one. It forces you to challenge the puzzles asymmetrically. But, in order to make the gimmick work, the game needs a mechanic to back-track and that’s what the looping is for — and it’s gets old FAST. The game is not large, it’s quite small in fact, so being forced to reset and do the same puzzles over and over and over again to progress drags the game way down.

>>1409717 I imagine so, yeah. Plus making the planets too big would kinda hamper the sense of exploration - spending half of the timeloop on one planet looking for something of note would be a big burden for both the devs and the players.

The cross-platform singularity: the convergence of PC and mobile gaming Anonymous 07/06/2024 (Sat) 03:37:23 Id: fb9f05 No. 986877 [Reply] [Last]
I've been struggling to make a thread like this because of how to express such a niche topic that gets zero attention. But here goes: Over the past few years, a certain game Genshit Impact blew up and changed the mobile market completely. A key factor to its success was not only that it was chinkshit BOTW but it was playable outside of muh wife's boyfriend's Switch for "free." Suddenly, the field went from disposable side games played by turd worlders to being taken seriously overnight. And with it came the copycats, and with that came the need to grow and grab more dollars free of Grapple and Gulag's clutches. Thus the PC clients and controller support rolled out. The advent of Unity and Unreal to Eastern devs, combined with chinks and gooks growing up with always online games and expanding in soft power, while the Nipponese gravitate increasingly towards portability, has resulted in a glut of titles that are available on both PC and phones (sometimes web). As more and more of them come out, some of them, in the spirit of Ross Freeman, convert themselves into packaged games you can purchase on retail. Some mobile devs capitalize off their success on phones to develop real hardcore games. Meanwhile, hardcore games have slowly adopted the same live service trappings of mobile titles, and handheld game ports are making more money than ever. <battle passes <microtransaction shops, lootboxes, and gachas <deckbuilding <wikis and metas <"gameplay loops" <limited time collabs and crossovers All the talk about normalfag gamers suddenly discovering indie games is BS as Palworld and Helldivers 2 were both live service games that happened to have the aesthetic of hardcore games. This development is what flash games and handheld titles were leading up to. My thesis is that games will eventually be designed for both mobile and PC from the ground up, due to the rise of the East in influence, and the future of gaming relies on the direction this development takes, for the better or worse. Ideally all games will start out free, replacing traditional demos, but there will be an option to buy the game outright or play it with microtransactions. Alternatively, hardcore games will be ported to ARM as we are starting to see over the years, with Crapple and Microshit making a huge push with ISA translation. Pros >devs essentially have more creative freedom >low budget and barrier of entry, means a return to the PS2 era of development >shift to developing for multiple resolutions which helps with preservation as upscaling and temporal aliasing become more popular; something I've seen that is interesting is that some mobile games are designed at a 1:1 ratio so they can adapt to any screen >smaller gaymen devices are kewl

Saving this golden thread from falling off the catalog
>>1230661 Bumping again just in case OP is still around, I wonder what he thinks about this article on Chinese gacha games that was posted earlier this year: https://automaton-media.com/en/news/if-youve-worked-on-a-chinese-game-youll-know-production-scale-is-on-a-whole-other-level-japanese-devs-discuss-growing-quality-of-chinese-games/ https://archive.md/Vc5GT However, even though I do agree with Alwei's comments about Chinese gacha games having superior animation because they have more animators on hand sometimes they don't always hit the mark like with ZZZ's cutscenes feeling like Mihoyo trying and failing to properly replicate the animation style of '00s western games like TimeSplitters Future Perfect for example. Not to mention while I can't put my full words into this topic I know that there was a thread that discussed the topic of Chinese character designs that died late last year (https://archive.ph/5DYsf) and I regret not being able to participate in it since there were some interesting points being made there too. Though I do feel that the overall art direction and character designs/details for some of these games (along with some popular Korean gacha games aside from Blue Archive) tend to suffer at times from the "free-spirited" development environment as well where they may focus more on style over substance or putting too much detail on characters to make them unique instead of having a proper art direction or consistent themes with Genshin Impact being a notable example in regards to not having the latter in the designs of characters belonging to a single group.

At what point do you acknowledge a game series to be "dead"? Anonymous 04/28/2025 (Mon) 21:41:26 Id: 77ff40 No. 1281930 [Reply] [Last]
The main reason I bring this up is because I decided to do a quick look into the Darksiders series and see the people behind it because I was curious if I really "missed" anything having only playing the first and possible second game. And I found it interesting that Darksiders 3 effectively had nothing to do with the crew of the first two games. The "brains" of the series Joe Mad left to form Airship Syndicate and work on Battle Chasers and (More recently) Wayfinder, Timothy Bell was picked up by iD and has been working on the nuDoom games (That explains a lot), and several of the other studio leads bounced off to Sega, Microsoft, or Crytek. And while David Adams and a few other people have stuck around and are still working on the series, I don't remember anyone really being that impressed with the third game. And this is what brings forward my question, because Darksiders isn't the only series to suffer from this. DMC is going to be handed off to a new team with the depature of Itsuno (After Kamiya and Mikami already left), Halo and Sonic have passed through the hands of several entirely different teams, all of the leading Final Fantasy crew have left ages ago to form Mistwalker or Monolith Soft, Ninja Gaiden is no longer even being developed by Tecmo, Atari is revived by the French after they killed it once already, Call of Duty has none of the original MoH team who have since gone on to work at Epic or EA, Street Fighter has almost nothing to do with it's original creators who have long since left the company to form Arika or shack up with SNK (Before ALSO leaving to form Dimps), and it just continues. I'm not saying any of the new guys are "incapable" of developing a good new game appropriate to whatever series they are working on. The problem I have is just wondering when people are going to let series just finally die out because of none of the people who made the games actually still working there. Start making new games against instead of constantly devoting everything to these legcy series that increasingly have nothing to do with their roots.

I have three red flags: 1.) Publisher and/or developer ignores what consumers want. See: World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, Fallout, Civilization. 2.) Developer enters the casualization death spiral. See: World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Super Smash Bros. 3.) Publisher and/or developer doesn't actually understand what made their games good. See: World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy, The Elder Scrolls, too many fighting game IPs to list, Team Fortress 2, and an honorable mention for Starfield despite being a new IP. I realize I'm mostly listing the same 3-4 IPs over and over, but Blizzard and Bethesda are just exceptionally talented at raping the IPs they own to death.
(4.33 MB 2000x2000 SMT IV.png)

Pretty much the removal of what made the series good such as level design, combat, good plot and more. This game pretty much marks the death spiral of its series for example.
>>1405093 These spiders are pretty much a boss fight, just without the healthbars. Special music and everything. They're quite rare onwards. From what I've figured out, the game doesn't do anything special with the pools, just a 25% bonus health to everyone on Serious. The pools themselves aren't that noticeable most of the time, but several encounters become much harder than they need to be due to you now missing damage breakpoints. The bulls and footballer orcs are the biggest offenders, they start surviving the usual treatment of 2 rockets/1 sniper shot and quickly take all available space.

Metal Gear Solid Anonymous 04/22/2025 (Tue) 16:46:57 Id: 207b17 No. 1212615 [Reply] [Last] >>1406147
What happened to this franchise? It was once upon a time a very popular and beloved series. Did a zombie game really ruin their momentum? Or was it Hideo Kojima leaving? I have a lot of great memories playing these games and the only thing they released in the past 7 years are remasters. The remaster collection did great but I can't see why they couldn't make another solid (what a great joke lmao) game in the series for modern fans. If you ever played MGS1 on the Playstation 1, there was nothing like it. No doubt it catapulted the PS1 to levels it never would have done otherwise.

How should gamers fight problems with modern games? Anonymous 01/16/2025 (Thu) 06:30:01 Id: 30b9b2 No. 1061372 [Reply] [Last]
Greentext at least one problem and find solutions to the problem. 1) Bland "brown and bloom" colors and graphics, uncreative, uninviting, and visually unstimulating, that reduce atmosphere, emotional impact, and uniqueness 2) Crunch culture where employees work long hours under intense pressure to meet deadlines and deliver products, causing burnout and decreased product quaality 3) Degradation of the hobby as gaming became international and developers adapted design to cater to broader demographics 4) Digital rights management that requires online server authentication, or negatively impacts game performance, or limits how you can use the game 5) Diversity, equity, and inclusion biasing hiring processes at the expense of skills which reduces studio performance, competence, and morale 6) Excessive DLC that fragments the gaming experience, locking content behind additional purchases instead of including it in the initial release 7) Exploiting, cheating, and hacking online like aimbots and wallhacks, offline players usually know each other which discouraged local cheating due to social consequences 8) Game-as-a-service models, subscription and cloud services for gaming where you (((own nothing and be happy))) 9) Hyper-realism instead of artistic and aesthetic style, making games look generic as they strive for similar fidelity and lose unique artistic identity 10) Input lag making games feel more unresponsive, particularly in genres like fighting games, first-person shooters, or platformers needing precise movements or combos 11) Kernel-level anticheat that violate privacy and increases the risk malicious actors exploit security vulnerabiltiies to infect gamers with malware 12) Limited physical releases where many modern games are digital-only, and companies assume digital distribution, the PS5 Pro even lacks a disc drive 13) Loading screen saturation that frequently interrupts gameplay, wastes time, and breaks immersion 14) Monetization, microtransactions, loot boxes, and gambling mechanics and how developers design games around compulsive spending of players instead of delivering quality content 15) Movie games requiring significant "Triple A" budgets and minimizing player agency by sidelining gameplay and how they interact with the game world 16) Pay-to-win mechanics that let players gain advantages by purchasing powerful items or upgrades, undermining fair competition

Gaming has always had overrated movie games that were beloved by normies solely because of the story. Silent Hill 2 is an incredibly mediocre and outdated game in almost every way outside of the story. Even for its time, it was outdone by both Fatal Frame and Resident Evil 1 remake when it came to graphics and actual scare factor. Metal Gear Solid 3 was a shallow stealth game with Simon's says tier gameplay. If it weren't for its story and graphics, no one would care about it. God of War was a dumbed-down DMC with quick-time events spam. A very shallow game when compared to its contemporaries. Yet it's remembered more, why? Because of its presentation. Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption 2, and God of Snore are just modern iterations of this phenomenon. If you want to find good games, ignore the normie herd. I'm not saying all popular games are shallow and slop, but a good deal of them are. You have to remember that the people mindlessly consuming these trendy games are the same people who watched marvel slop for over a decade without getting bored.
>>1383818 Games with more focus on the story than the gameplay are not necessarily movie games. Movie games are games that are full of cutscenes and forced walking segments. Video games are an interactive medium at their core, so forcefully blocking interaction for more than say 15-20% of the total gametime makes them a bizarre mix of movies and video games, a movie game.

hello 8/v/ I would like to discuss a topic that was impossible to talk about on deadchan because of certain schizos. that subject is trends in sexualization in vidya, specifically in asian countries. historically japan has had a reputation for sexualized content in vidya. you would look at games like dead or alive xtreme or oneechanbara and think "this kind of game could only be made in japan." lately though it seems like this trend has been reversing. jap games are not as sexy as they used to be. dead or alive no longer has pole dancing. the titties in anime titty games are no longer as big or as exposed as they used to be. many people would blame this on western censorship, but I don't think that's entirely the case. you can see this trend even in games with little exposure in the west, especially in the realm of gachashit. if you look at popular jap games like umamusume or gakuen idolm@ster all you will find are safe and conservative designs. the trend may be most apparent with dead or alive penis vacation. both the new characters and swimsuit designs are noticeably more restrained than what you saw in doax2 and wouldn't be out of place in an idolshit game. japan has always had a preference towards cuteness, even over sexiness, and I think this current trend is just a continuation of this preference. it may even be that highly sexualized characters were actually because of western influence, and now that the west has become gay and pozzed japan is returning to its natural interests. it's also worth noting that while characters are officially becoming less sexualized, fan art of them is as degenerate as ever. it may be that rather than being completely opposed to sexualized characters, the japs want ones that are presented as "good girls" in the source material, but whore themselves out to old men in fan works. I think there may be a link to this behavior with idolshit fans. they are known for being obsessed with the idea that their favorite idol is pure and uninterested in men, but then do shit like making them touch their cum at handshake events. many currently popular jap games are idolshit themed so it is likely that such behavior is being imported. now the other aspect of this that I find interesting is that this trend does not seem to be replicated in other asian countries. korea and china have always been seen as simple copy cats of japan, but in this case they seem to have diverged. games like nikke, brown dust 2, and azure lane are full of hypersexualized designs even beyond what used to be expected from japan. characters from these games look like strippers and even have piercings and tattoos. even in terms of personalities characters explicitly want sex and try to jump the player character. perhaps this is also the influence of american culture. it's also interesting that blue archive, which is developed in korea but targeted at japan, is far more conservative than other korean games. what do you think about this phenomenon? do you miss obscene anime titties? do you think it is a passing fad and they will return? will you switch to gook and chink games if they deliver when japs won't?

In addition, I do have an account on BGO and can do a whole bunch of things like Wild Modes and additional classes if people wanna try them.

Game link is here https://www.boardgame-online.com/?page=joingame&g=s8qk&k=bVowj Current rules is in the image. I turned off Expert Mode as I felt that the first game should have that off for anyone new joining. I'll keep the link open for about 5-10 minutes or so.
