Of Ash and Steel just launched, it's a Gothic style ARPG. Has anybody tried it? It's apparently quite good. A sleeper hit this year has been Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon. It's based on some TTRPG and has been in development for awhile. It's obviously inspired by TES, specifically Skyrim, and I think it might be the first genuine attempt at aping TES I've seen so far. Two Worlds doesn't count, that was going for Gothic more than Oblivion, journos and marketing are what compared the two

Seeing that we have an influx of new users, I thought it is a good idea to bring back this project. (I copied an old OP by one of the anons so I hope they don't mind) For those that don't know, here’s how it works. Everyone is taking turns downloading the newest version of the game, making contributions before reuploading it for someone else to work on it. Only one person can actively work on it at a time. This is because if two people make overlapping changes to the database, scripts or switches, they will conflict resulting in one person having to redo all their work. Changes to the map and events can be copy-pasted from one version of a project to another so you’re free to work on new maps and new events if its not your turn and add them to the current version of the game once it is your turn. It should work like this. OP posts newest version of the map. The first person (Anon #1) to respond to OP stating that he’s going to work on it becomes the active game dev. Once Anon #1 finishes and re-uploads it, the first person to respond to him gets to work on it. So on and so forth. Additionally, whenever you re-upload a new version, reply to the anchor post, it’ll make things a lot easier. General Rules >Don’t mess with maps, events or anything else you didn’t make. The end result of NG4 really does vindicate everyone who knew Platinum was an ill-fitted choice for making a Ninja Gaiden game. Ninja Gaiden is a game where every action you preform is one that should be done with deliberate intent. When you preform attacks, you have to commit to them. Platinums style since Bayonetta is one where you are very much encouraged to be non-committal to your actions, and the perfect dodge reflects this. As you are rewarded for disengaging and reacting to on coming attacks with a dodge instead. Due to dodge offset, you can still finish your combo after that dodge, nothing is exactly lost from this non committal combat style, but that simple isn't what Ninja Gaiden's Gameplay Philosophy is. NG4 gives you every tool possible to continuously apply offensive pressure in a fight, the only thing holding your actions back is how fast you can react. Prior NG games wanted you to have good reaction timing as well, but they more so encouraged methodical and efficient decisions. The most obvious thing present in NG4 that highlights it being a Platinum game, rather than a typical NG game is that the Perfect Block is essentially the intercept technique from NG 2004's DLC. They're both a mechanic that reward blocking with good timing, but it was recognized that the Intercept was too overpowered, and there was no reason not to just mash the block button and get rewards from it. NG4 has not just the perfect block, but the perfect dodge, and parrying when performing attacks against an emeries attack. I found simply mashing light attack with the Rapier would reward fairly consistent and easy parries. The way NG4 does things isn't necessarily bad, but this all just isn't part of the design philosophy of NG. The enemies in NG4 so long as you can manage your meter for breaking their super armor, can be rendered incapable of doing anything. The aggression of NG2's enemies were made so that even if Ryu was hyper lethal when played correctly, the constant aggression and sheer amount of enemies still kept you on your toes, and necessitated that lethality. NG4 only gives you one type of essence, it can heal you, but barely at all. There is basically no reason not to charge a UT with it. Where in NG1 and NG2 if you used a UT then essence was only ever yellow, killing enemies without a UT could have them drop Blue essence to heal you, or Red Essence for Ninpo. Absorbing Red or Blue essence gave you a Level 2 UT, but at the cost of not gaing health or Ninpo, and it made Yellow essence worth much less currency. Ryu in NG4 can just use his meter for Ninpo. So this decision-making on how to kill enemies, and how to make use of essence is gone. NG3RE may have got rid of essence, but the rest of the game was designed to accommodate the removal of essence. We are still at the point where NG1/Black is the only NG game that's truly a masterpiece. Each other NG game tries to take the combat into another direction to commendable and interesting results, but NG1/Black it's still the most well-rounded overall game, and it has far more going for it then just it's combat.

I went through all of NG4 without realizing when in Blood Raven mode, throwing a shuriken changes to a unique ranged attack for every weapon. That certainly explains why I felt the default move list lacked an answer for flying enemies, I overlooked an entire mechanic.

So about dem Crash rumors: New cartoon show on netflix by Wildbrain, got debunked by Wildbrain themselves. Odd art in Beenox's anniversary banner, got removed cause it might be AI art. So much so that people were able to recreate it themselves. Some nonsense about a mythical "Emerging Franchises" team that handles Crash, Spyro, and Tony Hawk. Complete bullshit from a grifting youtuber. Oh and uh, Toys for Bob. More than likely working on a Skylanders game, not Spyro.

Talk about your favorite bideo jame soundtracks and why, and maybe even post some tracks from it. One of my personal recent favorites is the soundtrack to Kurohyou (great game btw, check out the sequel too). It's a Yakuza spin off game that focuses on deliquents and underground ring fighting. It has a bit of a gritter tone than the mainline games and the soundtrack is pretty gritty to match. The highlights of both games soundtracks are the songs composed by Hideki Naganuma (JSR, Sonic Rush). He did make some pretty funky tracks for the game, but he also made some harder sounding tracks as well, my favorite being THE NAKED PANTHER. Here's some other OSTs I enjoy. >Ys: Books I & II (Chronicles Edition) Most of the town themes are meh in my opinion, but the overworld and dungeon themes in the game are great. Every track that plays in Darm Tower (Tower of the Shadow of Death, Dreaming, Tension) are all spectacular. The version of Feena's theme that plays at the end of Book II deserves a mention too, it's beautiful. >DBZ: BT3 BT2 has a more diverse soundtrack, but I just love the mix of rock and horns in 3. Evolution is my favorite track. >999 I can't think of a single bad track in the entire soundtrack. It fits the gritty and psychological tone of the game perfectly and the tracks here are pretty varied. Ternary Game and Morphogenetic Sorrow are my favorite songs. >Pokémon Emerald Trumpets.

Let's talk about games with player made content and maybe share some of the stuff we have created ourselves. Let's limit the discussion to games that are specifically designed around player made content and not ones which have extreme modding communities If the game has both that's fine. So games like SPORE, Sims, Minecraft, anything that allows you to play around with stuff made by other people who also play the game. Games with map editors also count.

Cry of Fear, ADA, Afraid of Monsters, Natural Selection, and that's just the 2000s; more recently there's Diffusion, Half-Life: Extended, Insecure, Dark Matter, and a lot more. There's an overwhelming amount of stuff and I know some of you will be familiar with it.

Turn based combat without real time mechanics in any game is fucking garbage. If it doesn't feel good,you made it WAY TOO FUCKING SLOW, gave every single fucking move a QTE,made it too boring(nothing inventive like attacking two enemies at the same time) or ripped off a fighting game and cucked it to the max rather than improving it. mod edit: added a subject title

A stereotypically Polish immersive sim was released into early access recently. It looks and plays like EYE Divine Cybermancy with a bit more inventory and gun autism, among other things. Marie looks very cute.
