This is a much better thread than /ffg/
>>1160254 >Imagine unironically recommending PSP and GBA versions. Of what? PSP3 is DS without the online shit that doesn't work anymore (so the only real choice for 3-3D is it or PC, and PC doesn't have speedup or no job change penalty codes). PSP4 is GBA without the bugs+some mobile shit spinoff that's entirely isolated. PSP1 is bad because it's based on easy type, and PSP2 is debatable (it's GBA but with a little extra content and different graphics). Now, GBA1 is easy type and thus shit, GBA4 has major bugs in critical and omnipresent parts of the game (ATB not working right in non-EU versions), but GBA2 is probably the first really playable version of 2 (FC is broken, NES is a literally unfinished mess that's broken AND horribly translated, WSC might be fine except while it introduced Battle Theme B it lacks the cool instrumentation choice of later releases that make it work and I'm not otherwise familiar with it, PS1 has load times. Soul of Rebirth is fine if barren and demanding you understand the game's obtuse systems to not be fucked out the gate.), and GBA5's only issue is the sound (which can apparently be fixed with patches) and slightly lower detail graphics. GBA6 is the only one that's really any debate on: The translation is better, as the SNES version is full of just flat out mistranslations and changes, and some of the new content is actually not just end-game bonus dungeon, but some of the glitches do impact balance, there's a removed scene (patches can reinsert), and the usual sound/graphic issues with SNES to GBA . 1 should absolutely be bug fixed NES (not sure of which patch) or translated WSC though. WSC is the last version to retain the difficulty (without adding load times) and fixes many patches while adding tasteful new graphics, but Intelligence still does absolutely nothing, while patches NES is as pure as you can be. OG NES has totally fucked balance due to glitches (Thief is useless due to his main specialties being bugged to not work, and when he becomes a Ninja many of the spells he'd want to use just don't work properly so he's just a Warrior that can cast Haste in exchange for being worse in every other way)

Persona 4 Remake confirmed Anonymous 05/29/2025 (Thu) 03:05:51 Id: 5b1405 No. 1413636 [Reply] [Last]
And the old voice actors have been replaced. >A potential remake of Persona 4 Golden (or maybe even just vanilla Persona 4) has been rumoured for quite a while now, but it seems as though one of the original's voice actors has confirmed its existence. >Speaking on social media, Yuri Lowenthal, voice actor for Persona 4's Yosuke Hanamura, stated that he expressed a desire to return as the character for the remake, but unfortunately confirmed that Atlus apparently doesn't want him back. His deleted tweet <"And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back." >Aside from the frankly bizarre decision to recast the role of Yosuke, Lowenthal's statement is the surest sign yet that a Persona 4 remake is on the way. Switch fans sadly missed out on the excellent Persona 3 Reload when it launched in 2024, but with the Switch 2 right around the corner, we reckon a port of Reload and a release of Persona 4 remake is practically inevitable. >Persona 4 Golden, the PS Vita revamp of the original game, made its way to the Nintendo Switch in 2023 after years of requests from staunch fans. It was also joined by Persona 3 Portable and Persona 5 Royal. The series stands as one of the most accomplished in the JRPG genre thanks to its effortlessly cool style and deep social mechanics. XSeed: "Senran Kagura Would not Prosper in the West in This Day and Age" Anonymous 08/13/2024 (Tue) 20:30:17 Id: f3e482 No. 1001039 [Reply] [Last]
This really needs its own thread because of how right STUPID this shit is. This is like banning RPGs on the Sega Saturn levels of stupid, all because of retarded twitter/reddit/discord politics. These people can't see outside their little Californian bubble, and it pisses me the fuck off. The console game market is run by people who hate games, that's the only excuse I can think of when explaining this malicious ignorance. It's been proven time and time again that these games sell as long as there's a good gameplay structure. Even with an above average gameplay structure, Stellar Blade selling over a million copies in the past year alone PROVES that now is the best time to release Senran Kagura IN SPITE of gaming journalists and the reddit/twitter/discord grooming audience. Not only that, but the entire mobile market with games like Blue Archive and NIKKE is making millions of dollars in capital. You could make the market that "Oh it's just whales", but I would argue that's not a legitimate excuse when Stellar Blade sells over a million copies and other games like fucking Capes don't even sell close to that. That's not to mention Flintlock that has its numbers inflated by Gamepass only sold half the amount of Stellar Blade with a much bigger marketing campaign. There's no excuse for this level of stupidity, but what can we do about it? Maybe we can contact shareholders and have them communicate our issues through them? There's no excuse for this level of incompetence, although I'd personally argue that it's maliciousness considering everything I've talked about. sauce: https://noisypixel.net/xseed-games-ken-berry-interview/ https://archive.ph/N2zJb

Post Senrans in commemoration.
>>1417290 >and hope the franchise comes back with its core essence some time when everybody isn't insane And just when do you think THAT will be? Let me remind you that this current environment is the result of cultural elements that have been building up since at least the '60s. Senran Kagura was booted off of Playstation because Sony decreed it wasn't feminist-friendly. For that to change, the culture would have to change to repudiate feminism and likely leftism (because feminism is just an outgrowth of it) in general entirely. As long as the idea that things explicitly catering to straight men are "rape culture" or "gross goonerbait" and should be changed to accommodate women or destroyed is entertained in the public conscience, it will not get better.

It's amazing how this game did everything right >Amazing dungeons >Good dungeon themes >Balanced difficulty. Neither too hard or too easy >Good story without being intrusive >0 filler in-between dungeons >Perfect amount of exploration Almost every 3d Zelda game that followed Ocarina has floundered one of these things in some way. Be it Majora's Mask's obnoxious filler and lack of meaningful content, Wind Waker's terrible filler and horrible piss easy dungeons, or twilight princess and skyward sword's atrocious filler and invasive stories. Can you even say the classic formula was overdone when no game outside of master quest actually bothered to improve or build upon it in a positive fashion? Seriously, I've replayed this game over twenty times not including master quest or randomizers and I've never gotten bored of it. Meanwhile, I try to replay Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask and I drop them whenever I'm faced with tedious filler.

Video game genres that you dislike and why. Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 21:38:39 Id: fa8565 No. 1137438 [Reply] [Last]
I dislike soulsbourne games because the core aspect of the game actually isn't even difficult, it's just tedium that extends the games run time. For example if I die to a boss or mob and the nearest bonfire I last used was 100 meters away I have to trek the distance all the way back to get my experience and/or kill the enemy that last killed me. What did I learn while treking those 100 meters? More importantly what makes running that far actually difficult? Nothing. You are just being punished with time wasting tedium and going against enemies you had no problem dispatching up to that point. I understand wanting to have a game that is difficult but the core aspect of this genre just isn't. I also don't see the point of simulators. Specifically games like the sims. I don't see the appeal of watching your character do things instead of actually doing them.

Video Game Translation: Where do you do find hackers? Anonymous 06/06/2025 (Fri) 04:33:40 Id: 45fab3 No. 1441071 [Reply]
With machine translation getting stronger (although they will always be inferior to being actually translated by an expert), the only obstacle is actually finding someone to hack the game, rip the text for the translator and properly insert the translated text into a patch. Where do translator find such people and how do they convince them to work on the game? Do they pay them, are they friends or acquaintances with them or is it hoping that they are interested in the game and turn it into a passion project?
It's usually the opposite, hackers find translators, not the other way around I've seen so many projects (ds, gba, psp,...) died over year by not having a translator, instead of the other
>>1441071 I assume you have to pay them. Easier to just make a Patreon and have a team working on one game at a time.

Posting the best Kirby game Anonymous 04/24/2025 (Thu) 18:32:23 Id: a65f74 No. 1244427 [Reply]
Just finished a replay of Kirby: Planet Robobot and I need to scream into the void that this game SLAPS. HAL really said “what if we made Return to Dream Land but injected it with mech suits, cyberpunk vibes, and a soundtrack that kicks your teeth in,” and it WORKED. The robot armor isn’t just a gimmick — it changes based on your copy ability, and every single one feels like a power trip. Jet mode? You're flying through a shmup level. Spark mode? You become a walking Tesla coil of death. The pacing is tight, the level design is clever, and the amount of polish is absurd. Also shoutout to that final boss theme that ascends directly into the heavens and takes your soul with it. And the lore? Oh buddy. It's Kirby, so naturally the last hour goes from “haha cute pink ball go brr” to “AI god assimilates a planet and becomes cosmic malware.” Peak. I love Forgotten Land, but Robobot might still be peak 2D Kirby. HAL needs to stop playing and port this thing to Switch already. Anyone else think this is the most underrated Kirby? https://youtu.be/ekky8ZNdNnQ

Vidya Cheesecake Anonymous 01/21/2025 (Tue) 03:52:35 Id: 7b598f No. 1063490 [Reply] [Last]
Before anyone says anything, THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO RAG ON RAZORFAG! I'm just using his post as an example because there seems to be this increasing narrative that vidya is not "allowed" to have any sort of cheesecake or fanservice in the title. And any game that "does" have this content "must" be a shit game by default. Now personally, I disagree with this take. If a game is good, what exactly is the problem with including fanservice in the title? We're all adults so there shouldn't be an issue. And even then, what exactly is wrong with a game being fanservice focused? Take for example, DoA Xtreme. It's a shameless mini-game collection only designed to unlock new bikinis for the girls, but what's the problem with that as long as you're having fun with the mini-games and basically playing the "male equivalent" of a dollhouse sim. My bigger issue is that it seems like attempts to remove fanservice from games correlates almost with the "same time" game quality took a nose dive. Now does this mean that "all fanservice" is good. No, of course not. One infamous game guilty of trying to sell itself solely on cheesecake was BMX XXX, and it failed horribly as the game itself was terrible. However is it "wrong" for a game to not include fanservice in some form? I would have to answer yes. But what do you guys think? What's your takes on cheesecake and fanservice in vidya?

The Wheel has turned once again Necromancy Edition Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher. The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep. Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game. >Our pastebin (extremely outdated) https://pastebin.com/wjbSA98Y >Steamgroup https://steamcommunity.com/groups/vanheimageofvidya >Multiplayer guide >Blitzserver (game hosting service) https://blitzserver.net

Difficulty sliders/modes hate thread Anonymous 04/23/2025 (Wed) 17:40:00 Id: d324eb No. 1228485 [Reply] [Last]
I fucking loathe difficulty sliders. They are constantly used by inferior developers with no balls to make casual experiences that can adapt to the widest possible crowd, and to easily avoid actually balancing and properly, carefully designing all scenarios around the game. It shouldn't be up to player to choose difficulty. At most, the player should choose an harder special condition mode like Ironman, limited saves, survival mechanics/bars or 1 hit kill runs, but the idea that the game design should be compromised by modifiers into adapting to the player is utter shite. It's the player that should adapt to the game design to progress through the game, but cowardly developers. It even ruins the day to those players who aren't retards when the hardest mode is some trash mode with super tanky enemies because it's usually very hard to find the "intended" difficulty mode agreed upon to be what the developers designed he game around.

Sunless Skies goes to show that they were key devs because, apparently, that game's not very good.

Do people actually enjoy Diablo and games like Diablo? Anonymous 05/22/2025 (Thu) 00:09:49 Id: cf52e6 No. 1388394 [Reply]
Why do people enjoy this dogshit? Are they pretending? The entire gameplay is just spamming one button and hoping you don't die, might as well play cookie clicker. The staff of the sorcerer needs to be recharged lmao it has a battery or what? I tried playing it for about 5 hours and I genuinely don't understand what's so good about it. Maybe people 30 years ago were amazed by seeing something happen on the screen after pressing a button but nowadays some trash chink gacha on mobile is more fun and has better gameplay.

>>1388394 >Do people actually enjoy Diablo and games like Diablo? Seems like it, considering they've been making these games for more than two decades now.
as a casual who doesn't care much beyond beyond clearing the game on all three difficulties, the minmax grind sounds downright masochistic and miserable. the runeword grind alone makes me wanna puke. i don't know who could possibly enjoy farming equips just to make number go up, especially the one thing i don't like about games like it is that without number crunching/wiki autism (e.g. distribute your points exactly like this or you lose dmg) you're at a disadvantage. of course devs inevitably end up balancing stuff around the wiki autist minmaxers so you end up being forced to partake in it, skipping the discovery/experimentation phase and skipping straight to the endgame.
>>1436745 This is all caused by the synergy patch. Diablo 2 wasn't as heavy with farming to just progress. When we got the synergy patch they had to bloat the monsters stats. I remember when I was slowly making my way through Act IV Hell on a concentration maul barbarian and then downloaded the new patch and he could only hang in Nightmare due to how fucked the gear scaling became. This is partly why I enjoy Diablo I more than II. You can get by with either the items you find naturally on your descent, or find some magical gear to purchase from Griswold or Wirt. There was also a reason to pick up every magical item. People claim Diablo II has superb itemization, but there's only certain magical items they are looking for so most items that aren't normal won't be picked up. In Diablo I every magical item can be a potential upgrade. Sure there are less modifiers on magical items in Diablo I, but there is always excitement in finding any blue item. There was a run in which I did Hell with a Saber because it spawned with a high enhanced damage percentage and chance to hit which out did other weapons in damage regardless of their items higher base damage. I won't be picking up a blue short sword in Act IV/V normal in Diablo II because there's almost nothing that can spawn on it that'll out do other weapons types I've unlocked as I've progressed. Then you can compound that with early rune words that give modifiers that blue magical items simply can't give like crushing blow or open wounds, or a flat out +1 to all skills. Sadly ARPGs took the grind item treadmill from Diablo II rather than being one and done in a play session of Diablo I. I guess that's to be expected, more games are geared towards keeping a player playing the game across many years rather than being a concise session that the player might revisit in a year or two and spend a week on.

My performance was good on the tutorial island but after I left it I'm struggling to get even 30 fps on the lowest graphical settings and that's with an rtx 3060 and 16 gbs of ram, surpassing the recommended system requirements. Why are game devs seemingly incapable of optimizing their games even out of a AA game? I shouldn't have to do workarounds and fix anything, the game should be good out of the box

Seriously, hearing the Jailer say >Here in the jail we punish >Or at least we're meant to >I'm supposed to be intimidating >GRRR Completely killed any immersion I might have had in this world. 300 neurotic quirky side characters all at the same time just fucking killed it for me and it's a shame because outside the first Merchant you find (which has a lore reason for being quirky) the game took itself seriously. Should we write a meaningful well thought out character? No fuck that! Just make him autistic and completely out of place! It's ok, it's optional!
>>1428223 The writing is just of overall shit quality. One dimensional NPCs (hi, I'm a guard, here's my life story and a quest that goes along with it), flat side quests. I've read more interesting quests in MMOs. The lolrandom humour's best example is the quest where you get an explosive package in order to blow open a sealed tomb. Inside you find an undead cook who is obsessed with cheese. Completing the quest line gives you a spell that turns targets into cheese.
>>1436353 The issue isn't even the concept, you can do that silly stuff without shit writing that doesn't take itself seriously. Why can't these faggots just be genuine? Why does everything have to be sarcastic and quirky and shit, fucking hell.
