I love Star Fox 64. Despite being such an early 3D game it really delivers on pretty much everything: freedom of control, speed, challenge, music, voice acting and even story. It was such a fantastic game for the time and the fact that a game made almost as old as I was is still the best in its series is sort of astonishing and more than a little bit disappointing.

It really is incredible that in almost 30 years Nintedo hasn't at least matched SF64 with a modern release. There's only been 2? 3? Star Fox releases since then, and they've all been very middling. I don't know how they fucked that up, the formula was already there even before 64 but for some reason they just never dared to make a challenging, replayable 3D shooter even though it would have sold gangbusters multiple times over.
