Difficulty sliders/modes hate thread Anonymous Id: d324eb No. 1228485 [Reply] [Last]
I fucking loathe difficulty sliders. They are constantly used by inferior developers with no balls to make casual experiences that can adapt to the widest possible crowd, and to easily avoid actually balancing and properly, carefully designing all scenarios around the game. It shouldn't be up to player to choose difficulty. At most, the player should choose an harder special condition mode like Ironman, limited saves, survival mechanics/bars or 1 hit kill runs, but the idea that the game design should be compromised by modifiers into adapting to the player is utter shite. It's the player that should adapt to the game design to progress through the game, but cowardly developers. It even ruins the day to those players who aren't retards when the hardest mode is some trash mode with super tanky enemies because it's usually very hard to find the "intended" difficulty mode agreed upon to be what the developers designed he game around.

>>1439831 >>1440948 If you want to go down that road you can also consider whether playing original arcade games out of an arcade environment is a change in difficulty. After all they were designed to have quarters plugged into them to increase the credit count.

Ship management games? Anonymous Id: e48b5b No. 1218391 [Reply]
As title suggests do any of you know of any games like FTL? I'd prefer it focus on ship to ship combat but I'll take what I can get.

>>1218391 For some non-space games, take a look at Barotrauma & Sunless Sea which has more of narrative focus. If you find Sunless Sea interesting, pirate it, because key devs were ousted from the company afterwards, and they went on to found Weather Factory (Cultist Simulator, Book of Hours). Sunless Skies goes to show that they were key devs because, apparently, that game's not very good.
You left this pretty open, so I'll suggest Pulsar: Lost Colony, which is basically FTL but (mostly)multiplayer and 3d. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=AENwIX76xvM&t=93

Tainted Grail Fall of Avalon Anonymous Id: 36eaab No. 1267868 [Reply]
What a piece of doodoo dogshit lol. My performance was good on the tutorial island but after I left it I'm struggling to get even 30 fps on the lowest graphical settings and that's with an rtx 3060 and 16 gbs of ram, surpassing the recommended system requirements. Why are game devs seemingly incapable of optimizing their games even out of a AA game? I shouldn't have to do workarounds and fix anything, the game should be good out of the box

Seriously, hearing the Jailer say >Here in the jail we punish >Or at least we're meant to >I'm supposed to be intimidating >GRRR Completely killed any immersion I might have had in this world. 300 neurotic quirky side characters all at the same time just fucking killed it for me and it's a shame because outside the first Merchant you find (which has a lore reason for being quirky) the game took itself seriously. Should we write a meaningful well thought out character? No fuck that! Just make him autistic and completely out of place! It's ok, it's optional!
>>1428223 The writing is just of overall shit quality. One dimensional NPCs (hi, I'm a guard, here's my life story and a quest that goes along with it), flat side quests. I've read more interesting quests in MMOs. The lolrandom humour's best example is the quest where you get an explosive package in order to blow open a sealed tomb. Inside you find an undead cook who is obsessed with cheese. Completing the quest line gives you a spell that turns targets into cheese.
>>1436353 The issue isn't even the concept, you can do that silly stuff without shit writing that doesn't take itself seriously. Why can't these faggots just be genuine? Why does everything have to be sarcastic and quirky and shit, fucking hell.

What does /v/ think of sentinel girls? I really enjoyed both, even if the gameplay gets repetitive. I think the setting is cool and like the juxtaposition of the cute anime girl interactions and the grimdark of the overall plot/endings.

Well /v/ thoughts on the original Dead Space series and the remake of DS1?

Have you played Dead Space Sabotage? It plays much better than DS1 though not as good as DS2. There is no dumb turret section for starters.

>>1310503 dkc1 is straightforward, go through the levels to win. dkc2 and 3 are "find the secrets then get to the super special levels dood". most people are going to think thats rad.

>>1311954 I don't like how you have to pay to save in 2. That just bothers me the whole time and it makes me not feel comfortable saving or taking a break. Seems small, but significantly decreases the fun.

How are you enjoying the game so far? Who's your favorite strangling? Share your basecamps and characters, maybe tell about some things you've found too.

>>1418759 I rented it and beat it, but didn't really care for it. Partly because it just didn't spark anything in me, and partly because I was pissed off that this is the best we got out of the ashes of the canceled True Fantasy Live Online. Think I'll pass on this one, but if I stumble on a magnet or 90% off discount I might give it a whirl.
>>1418964 Earlier trailers just straight up had body type 1/2
>>1417389 It's actually pretty fun. I might end up buying it since I could see this being a fun title to play with friends. Laura is cute but Kunugi is pretty good. >>1419031 Seems not being able to make female characters is more of a dev laziness thing. Many, many characters have boobs. >>1419578 And they removed that entirely. Internally I wonder if there's still a gender switch that's just kept to male for player characters, since there's a lot of characters seemingly made with the character creation assets that clearly have tits.
