FPS/TPS Anonymous 09/14/2025 (Sun) 00:21:55 Id: 01483a No. 1750545 [Reply]
Any fun third or first person shooters that have a large enough player base to where you don't need to be an autist of that game to participate? Not being ruined by devs would be nice too.

What are some actually good third-person shooters, /v/? I know of Max Payne and Ratchet but 90% of TPS I know of are 1: The worst waist-high walls and strawberry jam damage indicator dudebro shit, like Gears of War. 2: Genre blends, being primarily the other genre its blended with, like Hitman and Mass Effect.
(55.96 KB 384x522 instant racial hatred.jpg)

>>1906545 >Nexon >>1906658 Honestly been a while since I played a proper TPS that wasn't Onirism, so my recs will be on the older side except for that. It's also all solo shit. I'd recommend Onirism and tell you how GOTY it is if it wasn't so fucking broken right now. Bugs everywhere, and even missing content like entire fucking levels because the dumb frogs fatfingered during crunch. Otherwise, it's an absolute treat due to its sheer content size, and being a medley of everything cool that was done during 1995 to 2005. Main inspirations are Serious Sam II, but it's mainly compared to Ratchet & Clank despite the dev team never playing it. Hard to rec it now because of its absolute state, the fixes can't come soon enough. Total Overdose exists if you want something similar to Max Payne, but more casual (as in, way too fucking easy) and more focused on being the coolest dude doing sick tricks while killing beaners, than actually killing beaners. Shit open world and side missions, but the campaign is entertaining enough. For the same style, John Woo's Stranglehold is slightly superior due to its better use of the environment for doing sick moves than TD. Very good heroic bloodshed. As for Gears of War dudebro shit, 50 Cent Blood on the Sand is a guilty pleasure and vastly superior to the mediocre Bulletproof. When you get past the NIGGERS and NIGGER MUSIC, its simple idea of just adding a score system and a ranking based on it that requires a perfect run to get the gold medal turns what is essentially a generic cover shooter into a serviceable killfest as long as you actually go for that high-score. No PC port though, and the "rewards" for high ranks are shit. As for FPS, I'm in the middle of Cultic Episode 2. While I like it so far, I can't help but feel like it's a bit inferior to episode 1, perhaps because it's not that focused on action setpieces until later, and some new enemies like the SWAT shotgunner are way too spongy. Nailed the horror setpieces though, it's actually scary at times.

Do you guys think the dev's next game will even live up to the popularity of Look Outside? I still don't understand just why exactly but it just absolutely exploded in popularity earlier in the year.

>tfw unity ending Biggest "oh no" moment i've had in a while
Reached the promise and unity endings on cursed mode. I really like the new content of the update and the change in difficulty really helps the tension last until the absolute end-game, but in a lot of ways it feels less complete than the actual release. In parts because there's a polish lacking in certain parts like the crossword witch being farmable and how the Promise/Unity endings feel rather sparse in it's artworks, but also because a lot of the new content is buggy(several overworld sprites don't match the enemies they're tied to) or has certain flourishes applied unevenly. I'll wait until the tooth family continuation is implemented properly to do a replay, I think I missed a lot in trying to get to use Papineu and Ernest early and Papineu was a lifesaver with all the weapons breaking constantly.

New fortress edition Previous: Lol (https://arch.b4k.dev/vst/thread/1998295/#2019399) Avaliable for free at https://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/ or as a paid premium version on Steam or Itch.io >What is the difference? Both are the same game on the same version (51.xx). The free version uses ASCII as a tileset (but you can mod other usermade tilesets and graphic packs) With the premium version you pay for a premium tileset + premium OST + access to beta branches and steam integration (if on steam). >What is next? Fort mode siege mechanics changes, rework and general spice up. The Future of Microsoft/Xbox Anonymous 11/03/2025 (Mon) 02:40:30 Id: 24ea0c No. 1902649 [Reply]
As most of you know Xbox is dying because Phil Spencer got the bright idea of buying Activision and Bethesda and figured that people would actually buy games that were on gamepass because they invested a few hours into it. This on top of Nadella's obsession with AI will likely tank the company into an Intel like state where it's a husk of its former self, if not outright split up because of the upcoming AI bubble bursting. What this has to do with "/v/ - Vidya Gaems" is I'd like to know what you guys will think will happen to the massive backlog of gaming franchises and one offs that Microsoft has the rights too, I was thinking instead of doing a full THQ move, they might separate Xbox into a separate private company where Microsoft has some ownership, but it'll be more focused on making games rather than shilling AI. Although that's likely a dream scenario since I don't think the people running Xbox and Microsoft are that smart. One scenario I'm personally hoping for is that they split up the business AT&T style, get rid of the DEI, ESG, corpo bullshit, replace the current batch of executives with people who actually give a shit about Windows and Gaming, and just focus on putting out good products again. Granted that's a pipe dream since shareholder capitalism has broken the American system, but with companies like EA and Valve leading the pack, I'd like to see more companies go private and focus on making good products rather than short term bursts of profit. That being said, what do you think will happen to Microsoft after the AI bubble bursts?

>>1902649 >Xbox is dying As a dedicated console, no. It's not dying. It's purposefully being killed. What's replacing it is a sort of pseudo-console. A PC with a simplified console interface. This is being done because Sony isn't a threat to Microsoft, and Microsoft never really saw the value in the console gaming space except for keeping Sony from pushing living room computing. >Phil Spencer got the bright idea of buying Activision and Bethesda Phil doesn't run the show. He takes his marching order like everyone else, and his job is to manage the directives to make sure they get done. So far, he appears to be doing the job - though they may end up shitcanning him just to save face if they can't get the messaging right. Reminder that Phil was not given a seat at the big table in order to "right the ship". He was put there to oversee Xbox's eventual integration with Windows, and to coordinate with the heads of other Microsoft divisions as they built out the infrastructure both for the merger - as well as other internal projects, such as cloud computing. As for the Bethesda and ABK acquisitions - their value doesn't come from what they can bring to GamePass, but in the mountain of "beloved" IPs that they can take away from you if you don't subscribe to GamePass. Embrace, Extend, Extinguish, remember? Expect over the next decade to start seeing more and more proprietary hooks into Microsoft owned games, as well as increasingly more third party titles, which are required for the game to operate as intended. Then expect to see compatibility with other platforms and services start to dry up unless it's used on Microsoft software or services. >This on top of Nadella's obsession with AI will likely tank the company The AI bubble bursting will hit them hard, but they're never going to abandon it now. Growth will just be a lot slower than their investors would have hoped for. Also, it's almost 100% guaranteed that Co-Pilot AI will be one of the required service hooks I mentioned earlier. >if not outright split up because of the upcoming AI bubble bursting. They're not going to split. Even if they were in danger of that actually happening, the US government would step in and bail them out. Too much commerce runs on Microsoft systems, to say nothing of the entire Federal Government and the Military. Enjoy paying off Microsoft's mismanagement with your tax dollars. If anything is going to be able to kill off Microsoft - it will be widespread adoption of Linux/Proton making Microsoft no longer a necessary component of running Windows. Again, part of why Microsoft is pivoting to challenge SteamOS/Proton - rather than waste time and money playing retard slaps with Nintendo and Sony in a meaningless (to them) market.

Playing videogames in public Anonymous 08/04/2025 (Mon) 17:48:22 Id: d4fc58 No. 1630644 [Reply] [Last]
>"Waaaah! People will make fun of me if I play video games in public!" Why are 4chan schizos like that? Playing video games in public has been a thing since the creation of video games with the arcades games and later with the handheld lcd games like the Game&Watch ones and then with portable consoles like Game Boy. Besides with lots of obnoxious, annoying people in public like niggers, illegals, gypsies, loud Karen, normies who talk loudly at their phones etc, nobody will give a shit about a person who plays games quietly in a corner with his phone or portable console.

vidya with best audio design? Anonymous 08/24/2025 (Sun) 17:15:28 Id: 440e70 No. 1688664 [Reply]
What vidya out of all those you've played has had the best, most atmospheric/immersive audio design? I'm getting high quality headphones for the first time in my life and would like to test them out on some games. As of now, I've heard that most horror should have good audio, but I'm a colossal pussy so would prefer other genres. Apparently Metro 2033 and Last Light are good, as well as Red Orchestra. Is there anything else?

Microsoft continues Xbox layoffs/Everwild has been cancelled Anonymous 07/02/2025 (Wed) 14:47:20 Id: d98370 No. 1523041 [Reply] [Last]
The rumors are true, Xbox is laying off around 9 thousand people today from the Xbox team from multiple studios. More specifically they're laying off people within Activision and Bethesda. Additionally because of these cuts, the Rare title Everwild that was announced in 2019 has been cancelled. Here's Phil's letter to staff >Today we are sharing decisions that will impact colleagues across our organization. To position Gaming for enduring success and allow us to focus on strategic growth areas, we will end or decrease work in certain areas of the business and follow Microsoft’s lead in removing layers of management to increase agility and effectiveness. Out of respect for those impacted today, the specifics of today’s notifications and any organizational shifts will be shared by your team leaders in the coming days. >I recognize that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger. The success we're seeing currently is based on tough decisions we've made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities. We will protect what is thriving and concentrate effort on areas with the greatest potential, while delivering on the expectations the company has for our business. This focused approach means we can deliver exceptional games and experiences for players for generations to come. >Prioritizing our opportunities is essential, but that does not lessen the significance of this moment. Simply put, we would not be where we are today without the time, energy, and creativity of those whose roles are impacted. These decisions are not a reflection of the talent, creativity, and dedication of the people involved. Our momentum is not accidental—it is the result of years of dedicated effort from our teams. >HR is working directly with impacted employees to provide severance plan benefits (aligned with local laws), including pay, healthcare coverage, and job placement resources to support their transition. Employees whose roles were eliminated are encouraged to explore open positions across Microsoft Gaming, where their applications will be given priority review. >Thank you to everyone who has shaped our culture, our products, and our community. We will move forward with deep appreciation and respect for all who have contributed to this journey. >Phil Personally while I have no love for Xbox, this comes during a time where it's literally impossible to find work in the video games industry. Personally, I'd like for the entire Xbox executive team to be replaced by people who actually care about games, have games industry experience, and actually know how to run a business, although that would actually require Nadella to stop focusing on AI and try to make an actually good product.

>>1891960 >$1,200 Xbox Magnus We'll have to see what the finalized specs are, especially in relation to other PC hardware on the market, but the next Xbox is just going to be a Windows 11 PC in a branded SFF case. It's not a terrible price for an upper-mid-range prebuilt Win 11 PC. If you just want an "Xbox Console", and I don't know why the fuck you would, but if you do - you're gonna be fucked for that price. But it could be a great affordable entry-point for PC gaming - especially if the price hikes on RAM/SSDs/GPUs due to increasing demand from AI companies ends up completely fucking the PC hardware market. Even more than it already is.
>>1892012 its most likely going to use pc hardware like the last 2 console generations but locked down with its own system and custom drivers specifically for it
>>1894164 If they're serious about merging Xbox and Windows into a singular platform, then it doesn't make any sense to lock down the branded Xbox hardware, because everything is an Xbox and nothing else is locked down. That decreases the value proposition for no real gain. Though they will have custom hardware that's non-upgradable, which could end up fucking them later on down the road. How are they going to keep charging $1,200 three years down the line when that mid-range hardware is now low-end and getting trounced by OEM partners who can sell much more powerful hardware for the same price or maybe even less. They're certainly not going to be able to raise prices as the hardware depreciates. I mean the platforms are already merged, but there's not quite 1:1 parity just yet - so Xbox can still be considered by the market as holding the monopoly "on Xbox hardware" - but they're now going to open up that market and inviting competition in going into next gen. To a point, Microsoft doesn't care. Just more copies of Windows to spy on people and gather telemetry for ads and feeding their AI. Still, they have contracts with AMD and other suppliers to provide Xbox hardware and it'd be a huge loss for them to have them all sit around in warehouses because they've been shut out of their own market. Maybe they just expect the stupids to pay out extra for the no-hassle hardware and security of the official Xbox standard hardware - but if they want the brand to carry them, then they should really be doing a hell of a lot more to build confidence in that brand, rather than burning it to the ground.

Great games that suck Anonymous 10/28/2025 (Tue) 03:41:11 Id: c79667 No. 1887064 [Reply]
Have you ever played a game that wasn't fun but still rewarding? I didn't enjoy at least half the time I spent playing Planescape Torment. I distinctly remember thinking to myself, "Anyone who says this is a good game is lying." The combat is below average and the terrible encounter design makes so many parts miserable to play. Looking back, however, the game did have have a lot of special moments that still stand out in my mind. The section between leaving the Hive and Ravel's Maze, which has hardly any combat, is like a really good point and click adventure. I don't know if I agree that it has the best video game story of all time, like everyone says, but certain parts have amazing atmosphere and pretty much all of the main party members are great once you're able to learn more about their backstories. I wish someone would make a mod that removed all of the generic enemies and only left the ones related to the story. IIRC, even the developers admitted that they only included combat out of obligation. Removing 99% of it would actually be more in line with their intentions.

What do you think is the reasoning behind Capcom launching their games as sudo-live service? Just like World, Wilds came out incomplete as they release updates with content that should be there on release, but this time much worse. I don't know anyone who actually buys MTX for these games, specially on PC where a single mod or CE can unlock everything that is paywalled. And this is the least of the game's problems.
80 posts and 33 images omitted.
>>1890665 >A lot of big devs seem to have this issue. They want the live service model but they fundamentally misunderstand how much work that entails to be even remotely successful. The trickle of content is to (a) Give shills and journos (but I repeat myself) a talking point to defend the roster, and (b) keep interest until the DLC appears on the horizon. World had a similar problem, but World also delivered reasonably well - Iceborne, despite its glaring flaws, was a pretty massive DLC and between IB and the TUs World's roster added quite a few fan favorites like the lightning monkes, Jho/Savage Jho, Glavenus, Brachy, Nargacuga, Alatreon and Fatty, etc. and added a more traditional endgame. Where they kinda fucked themselves was with Rise, as Risebreak ended up with a roster of 78 large mons on top of shipping with 48 large mons at base. It had any number of other problems and lacked the spit and shine of World but World's dearth of content was partially excused by "new direction for series, prease undastandu" + Iceborne, and Risebreak's flaws were cushioned by a lesser degree to the shift from MT Framework (which they had been using for MH since 2011) to RE Engine and the fact that it was designed to be Switch-friendly. However, Wilds has neither excuse. It uses RE Engine, an engine which has already been used to create a MH game with a metric fuckton of content, and the groundwork and resources for the "FHD open world" flavor of MH was already extensively laid by Worldborne and Rise. Rise in particular, seemed to have no issue with porting over a vast amount of content from World. Wilds also had a very generous dev cycle; World was basically wrapped up with Iceborne and the portable team also pitched in starting in 2022 after Sunbreak dropped. So on top of the various poor decisions you have a lot of people asking "where's the beef?". Also, as a small aside: Capcom has actually improved marginally when it comes to DLC/incomplete MonHun games. In previous generations, they would release a game that had LR/HR content and not much else and then later release another game at full price that had the existing game plus G-rank content and new monsters. Freedom -> FU, Gen -> GenU, etc. Handling this with DLC is actually an improvement, in the same way that getting splashed with piss is better than getting splattered with shit.
>>1891460 No. Actually being able to buy a physical edition of the full game is better. Now you can never ever own a copy of the full game.

>>1516587 That game was so much fun, Tigrex and its deviant were my favorite to fight.
