Unionization in video games. Anonymous 05/20/2025 (Tue) 22:30:15 Id: c8387e No. 1384151 [Reply] [Last] >>1392699
There was recently some discussion on the unionification in the video games industry in the Marathon thread, and while I believe the approach to how video games are published and translated need to be changed, I also think that the powers at be are making an attempt at a power grab. I actually made an article on the subject here [https://medium.com/@markmann447_91903/unionization-isnt-the-answer-a-call-for-free-markets-in-gaming-489abf30abe7], although I had to delete the discussion in the Marathon thread since it wasn't related to neither Marathon nor Bungie, I do find the subject to be rather interesting as someone who DOES want change, but also believes that Unionization is a communist tactic to destroy competitive American industry, but also has legitimate benefits depending on the type of industry where there really isn't an incentive for growth like trades and such. I also find that those pushing for unions in the video games industry are the worst types of industry shills like Jason Schreier, in addition to Harvey Weinstein defenders SAG. They've also made unironic propaganda as a way to push the idea of unionization onto the gaming industry as seen in my embedded images. Either way, I'm quite concerned who would be running said unions since Hollywood has become a cesspit during its run with unions and how there isn't a lot of talent in Hollywood because of unions and how they block freelancers. Still, I wanted to move discussion here since I feel there IS a discussion to be had.

Yes, the studio founder worked on more noteworthy projects before, but we all know how little that means, as far as I can tell Red Thread Games only subsists off public funding and doesn't have an actual paying audience backing it up.

What are some good games with total file size not bigger than 1 GB ? Small ram usage is also preferred, less than 2 GB of ram should be reasonable to ask, but it's not strictly requested Discuss and suggest them here Quality over quantity Emulated games is cheating, only small non-emulated PC games here, for the emulated games go in: >Emulation Megathread >>1028520 (Cross-thread)

Mechanics that turn you off games Anonymous 03/10/2025 (Mon) 01:32:49 Id: f77b31 No. 1078466 [Reply] [Last]
>Was going to buy Rise of the Ronin >Turns out it has color coded gear just like Nioh, the reason I dropped that game and never played the sequel I absolutely hate this garbage and I fucking hate Blizzard for making this lazy awful shit popular. What I love the most about this color coded RNG bullshit is the fact that not only are you getting the same weapon with different stats, which just waters down the weapon, instead of adding actual variety like a different weapon model with the same moveset, is the fact that you constantly get lower tier colored weapons that have higher DPS than top tier colored ones. Not even a skin to differentiate these weapons as well, absolutely immersion breaking and lazy to the very core.

>>1387784 I will never like Luck as a stat in game when its tied to the rarity of items. Because nobody is going to pick it, even if they have a chance to get a shinier item. Treasure isn't going to outweigh your chances of negating or dishing out damage. What games should do is just add the odds of finding loot tied to classic stats and go from there.

Shit in the foreground layer that blocks you from seeing what you're doing in 2d games. Sometimes it's a fog/darkness layer that only affects your vision beyond a certain radius, and that's fine, but FUCK these pillars in particular.

We're really eating good this year, rhythm bros. I enjoyed UNBEATABLE white label a while back, even if it was not really well optimized. I hope devs took the feedback and made things better for this demo. Haven't had the opportunity to play it yet, but I figured I could make a thread about it before I get home and try it later today. Between this game, Yunyun Syndrome Rhythm Psychosis, Rift Of The Necrodancer, Pastel Parade, Bits&Bops and of course Rhythm Heaven, 2025-2026 are shaping up to be really good years for groovers like me. YOU LOVE RHYTHM GAMES RIGHT?

Also, I heavily suggest playing on AWBW (Advance Wars By Web) for multiplayer. The game gets really deep when you climb above 1200 Elo. I'd like to play some huge games with you sometimes. Finished Visions of Mana and I didn't like it. >gameplay I played on hard, and the combat system itself was decent. I found the AI terrible in the beginning but as I got better equips and more skills they became mediocre to decent. They still died a lot for me especially in the final boss. I was very disappointed that you couldn't mix and match class passives until the postgame. For abilities I didn't really feel a need to really change things unless I did those elemental trials. >story It's shit and one of the worse stories even for JRPGs. To add to the crap storytelling they throw an excessive amount of cutscenes to pad the game. There are two types of cutscenes: one where you can mash the button to skip to the next dialogue and one where you cannot mash the button to quickly read along. There is an option to skip them entirely but if you want to follow the story then sometimes you have to sit and watch. Not to mention you start a cutscene then they make you walk like 5 steps to initiate the next cutscene. Repeat for the entire game and it gets really tiresome. >visuals I liked the art direction and the maps' looks. The people models looked very dumb though. >music Forgettable.
RPGmaker is fine, right? 7th Stand User, Jojo's Bizarre Adventure RPG maker fangame made by a Japanese housewife in her free time. You take a personality test at the start of the game that gives you a cool OC stand with its own moves, stats and influences over the original events of Stardust Crusaders. The combat is pretty solid for RPGM2000, there's a lot of things you can do to either alter the course of events or get unique rewards and outcomes, making the game very replayable. The soundtrack is a very good selection of what I assume are royalty free songs from some website or another. Expect to grind a lot and maybe have a guide in hand. Probably one of the best fangames out there, and a must play if you like Jojo.
>>1380396 >You mean being a dungeon-crawler rather than an open-world sandbox? You may jest, but you're kind of on the right track. I may not be the best to talk since my only real references of JRPGs are Chrono Trigger, Dragon Quest V and Bravely Default, but for the little I've gathered, RPGs and JRPGs are a matter of style that can only be describe with the sum of it's parts, rather than one element or another. The passive turn-based combat, the emphasis in party customization, the complexity of stat modifiers, the random encounters, the middle ages worldbuilding, the maze-like dungeons, the orchestra symphonies, the pocket and stylized art direction, the linear story progression, the multiple playthrough hours and the emphasis on telling a tale rather than just being a game... when you put a handful of those things together, you got something that can be confidently called a JRPG, primarily because they feel much closer to the role playing game pioneers, the pen and paper ones, as well the computer ones.

Monsterous, Dark, & Evil Modes/Forms. Anonymous 05/03/2025 (Sat) 05:24:06 Id: ab66bf No. 1306617 [Reply]
Alternative form in Vidya Games that allow you to assume power with a sinister take and appearance to match. I've been thinking about games that allow you to turn into a monster since I enjoyed playing PSP2I's beast and loved using nanoblast to turn into a werewolf and the rare occasion I managed to use dark nanoblast to extend and become even more vicious. I'm looking for games that give you the feeling of turning into something more feral and vicious. Even better if it's something non human. I guess alternative versions of characters also count as well if the fifth image is anything to go by.

>>1382725 Jak 1 was probably the best platformer on the platform, so it especially stings.
>>1382725 Jak 1 is excellent but I'd argue it's much too easy. I wish it had difficulty comparable to Crash 3. Jak II and 3 are totally different things, and I think I agree that I wish that they did the original sequel they had planned before they caved to focus groups. However, I still like Jak II and 3. They tried to do a zillion different things, and I don't think they were the best at any of those things, but they were good enough at all those things to make the overall games still quite enjoyable. And while I might say Jak II gets a bit too difficult in some places, I think I overall like the difficulty better in the sequels than in the original, which you can basically sleepwalk through. But yes, they're clearly less polished, and there are things that bug me quite a bit about them. But I still think they're pretty good. Daxter does an alright job at being a middle ground between the first and second games. It's a bit more focused on platforming rather than all the other bullshit. Also too short and easy, but for one of the first 3D games released on a handheld, that was acceptable. It's fun while it lasts. Jak X is awesome and the true sequel to CTR.
metroid prime 3 maybe. you can enter super mode at will. shooting costs hp, though, and if you linger in it for more than 10 seconds you enter a corrupt version in which HP bar starts filling up. if you let it sit full for a few seconds, you die. of course, using super mode is basically cheating >>1309428 >Does BoF3 Kaiser dragon count, since you can't control it you can, dummy. sort of. lrn2influence. or input one of the two correct gene combinations and it will let you input orders you also forgot to include rei's weretiger form which is ai-controlled and starts attacking your party too after a few turns

Has anyone played this? I beat the first shard, did a bit of the endless victory lap, and started the second shard, but I'm not feeling it. To put it simply, I'm not sure the randomly generated levels and rougelite, Slay The Spire-esque structure were the play here.
9 posts and 2 images omitted.
People's main critique seems to revolve about the random generation, but can you really handcraft many levels in a game that's this fast? Are you gonna spend much time thinking about where to place the 100th cactus when the typical player is zooming past it at a gorillion miles an hour? You could slow it down and make it more themed about deliberate platforming, but then you're basically making a different game. Games like sonic have always just stopped you dead in your tracks to do some precision platforming/stage gimmick and that's generally the only thing stopping levels from having minute clear times. Either way, I got my moneys worth out of it.
>>1223397 I don't think it's as hard as that, since these levels are pretty simple as a baseline, as they are largely flat lines/curves with hills.
>>1118713 (OP) I played the demo and felt like it was a great movement system that is completely wasted by the asinine decision to attach it to a procedurally generated roguelike good movement needs good level design to reach its full potential

I guess I need some more tips because I'm getting totally wrecked in the secondary missions. The enemies are just spawning non-stop from every direction, including right behind me, to the point where I barely have enough time to reload, let alone heal or do any hacking objectives. Mostly I've been using the BOSCO because of all the snipers in New Eden. Should I switch to the KA?

>>1381695 It's not even a matter of poverty, but in value for the dollar. I'm not going to get the mileage out of those VR headsets to justify spending over a grand a half on a headset - especially when the VR game industry is relying on shovelware just to maintain life support. I'll mostly be using it for sims. At any rate, a Quest 3 would be a downgrade from the Reverb G2, so I don't want to go that route.
>>1381721 >a Quest 3 would be a downgrade from the Reverb G2 Not really. G2 is the worst headset. Even for simmers running quest 3 wired would a massive upgrade over g2.
