The Legend of Zelda Thread Anonymous 06/11/2025 (Wed) 16:39:02 Id: 921973 No. 1459589 [Reply]
It's amazing how this game did everything right >Amazing dungeons >Good dungeon themes >Balanced difficulty. Neither too hard or too easy >Good story without being intrusive >0 filler in-between dungeons >Perfect amount of exploration Almost every 3d Zelda game that followed Ocarina has floundered one of these things in some way. Be it Majora's Mask's obnoxious filler and lack of meaningful content, Wind Waker's terrible filler and horrible piss easy dungeons, or twilight princess and skyward sword's atrocious filler and invasive stories. Can you even say the classic formula was overdone when no game outside of master quest actually bothered to improve or build upon it in a positive fashion? Seriously, I've replayed this game over twenty times not including master quest or randomizers and I've never gotten bored of it. Meanwhile, I try to replay Twilight Princess or Majora's Mask and I drop them whenever I'm faced with tedious filler.

>>1459754 Rebuking about 10% of the argument and calling me disingenuous is... a statement, for sure. Let's go over that forest temple and its "puzzles". >Enter >climb slow wall to get small key >go through door and watch ghost cutscene >go through door, fight 2 enemies for a small key >go out, see cube with navi going "gee this sure look like the door of time", play song to remove cube >Go through room, climb wall to the right, mandatory fight vs a single flying skull for map >Go out and hookshot to then stand on a switch and drain well >Go through well for another small key >go back to start hub, go through door, go up 2 sets of ladders >See arrows on floor with navi going "There's arrows on the floor dipshit" and blocks to push >mandatory fight vs another 3 fucking skeletons >You then shoot paintings and kill blue and red ghosts very slowly because they're invisible and/or invincible 90% of the time >You shoot an eye switch to remove twist corridor and get chest >hand battle for key

Video game genres that you dislike and why. Anonymous 04/18/2025 (Fri) 21:38:39 Id: fa8565 No. 1137438 [Reply] [Last]
I dislike soulsbourne games because the core aspect of the game actually isn't even difficult, it's just tedium that extends the games run time. For example if I die to a boss or mob and the nearest bonfire I last used was 100 meters away I have to trek the distance all the way back to get my experience and/or kill the enemy that last killed me. What did I learn while treking those 100 meters? More importantly what makes running that far actually difficult? Nothing. You are just being punished with time wasting tedium and going against enemies you had no problem dispatching up to that point. I understand wanting to have a game that is difficult but the core aspect of this genre just isn't. I also don't see the point of simulators. Specifically games like the sims. I don't see the appeal of watching your character do things instead of actually doing them.

Video Game Translation: Where do you do find hackers? Anonymous 06/06/2025 (Fri) 04:33:40 Id: 45fab3 No. 1441071 [Reply] >>1457589
With machine translation getting stronger (although they will always be inferior to being actually translated by an expert), the only obstacle is actually finding someone to hack the game, rip the text for the translator and properly insert the translated text into a patch. Where do translator find such people and how do they convince them to work on the game? Do they pay them, are they friends or acquaintances with them or is it hoping that they are interested in the game and turn it into a passion project?
It's usually the opposite, hackers find translators, not the other way around I've seen so many projects (ds, gba, psp,...) died over year by not having a translator, instead of the other
>>1441071 (OP) I assume you have to pay them. Easier to just make a Patreon and have a team working on one game at a time.

Did as much as I can in run, get showroom, burn cash on the ornate compass then rush through house for the trading post, hoping to trade it for upgrade disk. Pass through Lost & Found, which I'd forgotten about, it decides to steal the fucking compass.
Got around to pirating this finally, and more power to whatever psychotics out there that have the patience to play this game. I think around day 30 of getting fucked in the ass repeatedly by RNG I modded infinite resources and even with that trying to put together rooms to make progress was tedious, and all I did was get the straightforward, unsatisfying non-ending. The idea of a roguelite puzzle game isn't complete anathema to me, I just don't think that they needed to go as far as they did to null progress and waste time in between the time and effort needed to solve some of these esoteric puzzles. It just isn't worth the effort, at least not to me. The puzzles themselves can be fun and I liked what was being built up of the story/setting/characters but I definitely wasn't hooked enough to put up with this.
>>1445731 RNG definitely sucks, but for the record that wasn't the ending.

Posting the best Kirby game Anonymous 04/24/2025 (Thu) 18:32:23 Id: a65f74 No. 1244427 [Reply] >>1451967
Just finished a replay of Kirby: Planet Robobot and I need to scream into the void that this game SLAPS. HAL really said “what if we made Return to Dream Land but injected it with mech suits, cyberpunk vibes, and a soundtrack that kicks your teeth in,” and it WORKED. The robot armor isn’t just a gimmick — it changes based on your copy ability, and every single one feels like a power trip. Jet mode? You're flying through a shmup level. Spark mode? You become a walking Tesla coil of death. The pacing is tight, the level design is clever, and the amount of polish is absurd. Also shoutout to that final boss theme that ascends directly into the heavens and takes your soul with it. And the lore? Oh buddy. It's Kirby, so naturally the last hour goes from “haha cute pink ball go brr” to “AI god assimilates a planet and becomes cosmic malware.” Peak. I love Forgotten Land, but Robobot might still be peak 2D Kirby. HAL needs to stop playing and port this thing to Switch already. Anyone else think this is the most underrated Kirby? https://youtu.be/ekky8ZNdNnQ

Vidya Cheesecake Anonymous 01/21/2025 (Tue) 03:52:35 Id: 7b598f No. 1063490 [Reply] [Last]
Before anyone says anything, THIS IS NOT A THREAD TO RAG ON RAZORFAG! I'm just using his post as an example because there seems to be this increasing narrative that vidya is not "allowed" to have any sort of cheesecake or fanservice in the title. And any game that "does" have this content "must" be a shit game by default. Now personally, I disagree with this take. If a game is good, what exactly is the problem with including fanservice in the title? We're all adults so there shouldn't be an issue. And even then, what exactly is wrong with a game being fanservice focused? Take for example, DoA Xtreme. It's a shameless mini-game collection only designed to unlock new bikinis for the girls, but what's the problem with that as long as you're having fun with the mini-games and basically playing the "male equivalent" of a dollhouse sim. My bigger issue is that it seems like attempts to remove fanservice from games correlates almost with the "same time" game quality took a nose dive. Now does this mean that "all fanservice" is good. No, of course not. One infamous game guilty of trying to sell itself solely on cheesecake was BMX XXX, and it failed horribly as the game itself was terrible. However is it "wrong" for a game to not include fanservice in some form? I would have to answer yes. But what do you guys think? What's your takes on cheesecake and fanservice in vidya?

/domg/ - Dominions General Anonymous 04/16/2025 (Wed) 17:21:59 Id: efcd4d No. 1098569 [Reply]
The Wheel has turned once again Necromancy Edition Dominions is a fantasy turn-based war game created by two dudes. One of them is a teacher. The game combines a simple presentation with an extremely wide array of strategic options, including over 3400 units, 1100 spells and 400 magic items. Turns are resolved simultaneously, with players planning battles rather than directly controlling them. It has simplistic graphics but is easily moddable and extremely deep. Basically, it's an autist’s wet dream of a war game. >Our pastebin (extremely outdated) https://pastebin.com/wjbSA98Y >Steamgroup https://steamcommunity.com/groups/vanheimageofvidya >Multiplayer guide >Blitzserver (game hosting service) https://blitzserver.net

Difficulty sliders/modes hate thread Anonymous 04/23/2025 (Wed) 17:40:00 Id: d324eb No. 1228485 [Reply] [Last]
I fucking loathe difficulty sliders. They are constantly used by inferior developers with no balls to make casual experiences that can adapt to the widest possible crowd, and to easily avoid actually balancing and properly, carefully designing all scenarios around the game. It shouldn't be up to player to choose difficulty. At most, the player should choose an harder special condition mode like Ironman, limited saves, survival mechanics/bars or 1 hit kill runs, but the idea that the game design should be compromised by modifiers into adapting to the player is utter shite. It's the player that should adapt to the game design to progress through the game, but cowardly developers. It even ruins the day to those players who aren't retards when the hardest mode is some trash mode with super tanky enemies because it's usually very hard to find the "intended" difficulty mode agreed upon to be what the developers designed he game around.

>>1218391 (OP) For some non-space games, take a look at Barotrauma & Sunless Sea which has more of narrative focus. If you find Sunless Sea interesting, pirate it, because key devs were ousted from the company afterwards, and they went on to found Weather Factory (Cultist Simulator, Book of Hours). Sunless Skies goes to show that they were key devs because, apparently, that game's not very good.
You left this pretty open, so I'll suggest Pulsar: Lost Colony, which is basically FTL but (mostly)multiplayer and 3d. https://yewtu.be/watch?v=AENwIX76xvM&t=93

Dispatch Anonymous 05/30/2025 (Fri) 20:01:57 Id: 350702 No. 1419123 [Reply] >>1437134>>1439238
Did anybody else try the demo? I liked the occasional Telltale game back in the day, so I was curious about Dispatch when it was announced. The premise of you being a 911 operator for superheroes is good, and I think the cast looked fun. The e-celeb voice cast seemed like a terrible idea though. After playing the demo I'm still on the fence. The actual gameplay of getting a call and sending the best character you have to deal with it seemed good enough. It was very shallow, but I think it can work for a story driven game like this if they do a good job of making your choices matter. The writing is peak millennial slop though. The old nigger said "fuck" about 50 times in the 30 minute demo. Quips galore. I still like the premise, but the writing might make me skip it.

>>1419123 (OP) Mechanically it sounds vaguely like the Superhero League of Hoboken. In Hoboken, you still play the superheroes - but it's more of an Adventure Game with some RPG elements tagged on. You control an entire team of superheroes and as situations arise you have to pick the best member to solve it. So instead of items to use to solve puzzles, you have seemingly useless "Mystery Men"-like powers to use in novel ways. So who you pick to be part of your team at any given time will determine what missions you'll be able to progress through.
